Am I the only one who thinks that when Sky Atlantic moves to the variety pack nothing will change with regards to VM getting the channel?!

I obviously don't have access to Sky's subscription figures but it is a reasonable assumption that a very high percentage of its customers already sub to the variety pack and so it will have little or no impact on viewing figures/advertising revenue etc.

So what is the big deal with this move as lots of people are expecting things to change. Unless I've missed something

This is my take on VM

TIVO is a very intelligent box with some advanced features , yes there are a few glitches but once ironed out it will offer a different experience to Sky and BT , if you add in a couple of key channels like Sky Atlantic , ESPNA HD , Nat Geo Wild HD and Universal HD you suddenly have an intelligent box with key content for it to find.

Actually I don't even think there will be a verity pack anymore come September, if the rumours are true Sky will offering a Virgin style large and extra large pack.

But yes I agree I don't expect it, at least not in HD, any time soon.

Good.

I'd rather they negotiate properly for a new channel, rather than accept the initial asking price set by Sky which could lead to price rises just for 1 or 2 channels.

As previously posted Amir Khan Vs. Zab Judah will be shown on PPV channel Primetime on the 23rd July 2011 for £14.95 and will be on Virgin.

What I'm not happy about is last night Primetime broadcast Lucien Bute vs John Paul Mendy for the IBF Super Middleweight Title live from Romania free of charge. The show started at 7:00pm and was shown on SKY channel 480. Does anyone know why this wasn't carried by Virgin?

It's the same situation as Cage Warriors MMA on Premier Sports. This is shown every month free of charge on SKY, but we can't get access to it via Virgin.

It's so annoying when broadcasters are giving out freebies, and we keep missing out :(

Lets put it this way, why should VM get channels on the cheap, when Sky customers pay a fortune to get the channels they want.

VM want channels on the cheap it is as simple as that, when Atlantic was offered to VM at a 'realistic price' VM said no.

Therefore, that should be the answer in future, l get so fed up with this battle with VM and Sky over channel cost's etc, VM can go out and get channels from other broadcastors, they don't need to go to Sky all the time.

VM customers want channels and they contact VM all the time and they don't get it, VM make promises they don't keep.

Don't VM customers pay more for Sky Sports then Sky customers?

As far as I know, VM actually make a loss on any TV package which includes Sky Premium channels, due to Sky charging them so much. This may have changed after the Pay-TV review (in which Sky didn't come out smelling like roses after OFCOM ripped them a new one).

Sorry Arthur but you are going overboard again because where do you get the thinking that Virgin want channels on the cheap, Sky Atlantic was offered to Virgin at a grossly inflated price which any company who is sensible would not pay that price and remember it is Sky who will eventually come to Virgin to negotiate a price as they did over the Sky Basics fiasco and they have never made any promises in which they have not delivered on other things.

Indeed sky sports on vm is £2 more expensive then with sky £20.50 vs £22.50 hardly getting sky premiums on the cheap.

Explain why it's not on the other digital platforms then, Arthur. Are they all being tight fisted as well?

Love to know where you get yer info regarding sky will eventually come to vm to negotiate the price (where you in the meetings) vm lost customers due to losing the sky basic channels,They needed them back as much as sky for advertising. As for grossly inflated price thats vm opinion,We dont know the true facts and never will.Peeps are quick to blame sky for vm not having new content,But where`s the others then are they also offered at inflated prices (eg universal hd,Disney channels?)

No other platform is likely to get atlantic whist it remains free to sky subs, sky say they offer it to other patforms but probably overpice it to make sure,we are only likely to see it on vm once it goes into skys paid for packs,in august i think.
