Today would have been an ideal day to launch 'Sky Sports Ultra HD'.

Initially I thought the same, then I thought maybe they want the other changes to sink into customer's minds. Too many things changing all at once risks overwhelming people and/or some changes going unnoticed.

One of my Series Links has moved from Sky Showcase to Sky Max.

The only difference between it and the others is it was set to All whereas the others are set to Sky1. Usually when you set a Series Link to All Channels it picks the channel with the most prominent channel number, so this is a surprise change, and oddly it didn't change until quite late in the day.

Yup.

On Virgin Media the CNN picture was replaced at two minutes past midnight with a slate advising viewers that it had been removed and to try Sky News, BBC Nrws or Bloomberg as an alternative. They seem to have had the sense not to suggest GB News this time!

There is no mention of the alternative ways to continue to receive CNN.

A minute later the audio was removed and the channel is now silent. Bloody great :(

Do you mean you think it's excellent editorially, technically or for it's in depth, wide ranging and comprehensive news coverage?

Well, CNN has at this moment in time remained free to air on satellite.

Unless it encrypts, this shows the reason (going subscription) that VM gave for pulling it as complete BS.

If it remains FTA, it might be time to bring my Freesat box out of retirement. Bit much when i'm forking out for pay TV.

It has actually been removed from the Freesat EPG and will go dark eventually.

It has been dropped totally in Ireland from all providers apparently.

Yeah, but it's the only HD satellite box that i've got so, if it remains FTA, I can tune it in in non Freesat mode :)

Yeah, i'd have to get my dish & cabling sorted out, so i'm going to see if it encrypts in the next month or so before I go to the expense of doing this.

Curiously, it was supposed to have left BT yesterday, but I've seen reports that it's still on their EPG!

Re: Changes to Virgin TV (2021)

It was in their old legacy EPG - their new EPG with Now TV never had it in from launch.

Any customer who has performed any package change or joined BT after they linked up with Now TV will have the new EPG.

CNN still lists in the VM EPG - but listing in the EPG doesn't mean it is active.

If you have a Samsung Smart TV, CNN in HD is available on Ch 4008. Other hidden gems on numerous channels beginning 4---, Talk Radio TV (HD) on 4015.

Re: Changes to Virgin TV (2021)

After an update of the Virgin Media Go app the following message popped up.

"Great news! Now ALL customers are able to download On Demand programmes to watch offline - making watching your favourite shows even easier."

I've not seen this mentioned anywhere so I thought I'd post it. It may not be super new as the app is manually updated on the device I saw it.

There also is a Catch-up tab I've not seen before alongside Now On TV and Guide in the Live TV area. Though I notice it disappeared once signed in, presumably only available for those on TV360 service.

A customer on the VM community forum has posted an email received from VM which I assume has targetted all MIXIT/basic package customers:

Between 2nd September and 1st October we’re opening up UKTV channels to you at no extra cost.

For the whole month, you can enjoy Alibi (126 or 212), GOLD (124), W (125 or 211), Eden (245 or 247), and Dave HD (227) on us. That means hours of top drama, dazzling nature shows, gripping reality shows and both classic and cutting-edge comedy, all on top of your usual package.

You can watch UKTV shows live, or head over to Catch Up and Box Sets areas on your TV box to jump right in. Have a look at what’s in store for you.

UKTV channels have at least 1 "free" period to base tiers every 12 months on VM, though it's usually nearer the Christmas period to my recollection.

Funny that, I was told this morning that the dummy transport stream names had gone for transport streams 512 & 515 and that the Eurosport olympics channels had moved from their original sid numbers.

The other changes seem to be the start of transport stream 27 & 28 services moving to 512 and 515. The rest will probably follow over the next few days, then maybe 512 and 515 will get dummy transport stream names. You missed Alibi HD, that one moved from 2803 to 1503. Once again the digitalbitrate monitor is down when changes are happening.

Surely they ain't going SD that would be a shame as it is the only MTV channel I regularly watch due to the poor PQ on the others and of course no ad breaks.

Might just be a simple legal name change, hope so.

They probably just realised at this point in time having HD in the channel name is rather pointless if there is only one version available, and it doesn't trip off the tongue.

From this morning's info: Yes, Utsav Plus HD was included in yesterday's batch of changes. COLORS HD should have already moved at the same time as TCM HD.

SYFY HD, Comedy Central HD, 4SevenHD, BBC NEWS HD and BT Sport 1 HD are already running as duplicates with SID 15XX numbers, so are ready for the next set of changes.

The channels moved last night are also running as duplicates in their old locations but should be removed shortly.

The new unknown channel you mentioned is "TS27 Dummy" which just means TS27 has been cleared of active channels. The removals you noticed yesterday were "Dummy 1209" and "TS15 Dummy", removed because active channels have returned to these transport streams.

Probably and if they do there should be another new service TS28 Dummy or whatever Virgin call it.

TS11 is empty again, so some services may be moving onto that eventually. Unless Virgin keep it for pop-up channels.

I feel 24XX and 25XX may move to 11XX as both as about 5 HD Channels on them.

I feel 16XX may move to left over slots on 12XX, 15XX, 18XX, 23XX and 26XX as all have got about 8 HD Channels on them.

I feel 23XX may then move 16XX.

I feel Virgin may keep 18XX open for any left over plus room for any new HD launches on Virgin Media.

All information base on DBR info.

There were rumours a few months ago that TS25-30 would be wound down. Since then 29 & 30 are no longer being used and now 27 & 28 are being cleared. I would expect 25 & 26 to be next. No time scale was mentioned, so it could take a while.

My idea would only take Virgin Media up to 9 nights - aka 3 weeks.

The method they are using seems to be moving around 6 channels a night, so clearing TS25-6 (14 channels) could be done in around 3 nights. Those are the transport streams they have moved to frequencies next to other cleared transport streams.

But my reference to time scales was to allow for any new encoders to be ordered (if necessary) or just to fit in to Virgin's overall development plan for the TV service.

The following "housekeeping" things has just happen on Virgin Media UK.

-SYFY HD, Comedy Central HD, 4SevenHD, BBC NEWS HD and BT Sport 1 HD all need to be readded to "Favourite Channels" due to them moving from SID 28?? to SID 15??.

-The following has still to move over to SID 15XX - All channels on SID 28XX has now move over to SID 15XX

-An unknown channel has been added to Total Channels over night.

MTV Pride will also be shown on Virgin Media Showcase HD (Virgin Channel 100) from Saturday at 6am to Monday at 6am.

So maybe TuneAway HD Hidden will become MTV Pride.

I've noticed that too. Back when I had TiVo and V6 it was a regular chore to re-add channels to my favourites list. I have never needed to do that since moving over to 360.

It is not really new, it is deactivated when not in use which makes it disappear from digitalbitrate. New tests have been added on 1405 & 1406 on internal networks. 11 new duplicate services have been added to TS30 but not added to any networks. TS30 was taken out of general use some time ago and these new duplicates are probably some sort of internal test.

A bonus of using an online EPG rather than using SDT data.

I know that TS30 has 11 things on it but no other SID has 11 channels on it - maybe Virgin are set to launch up to 11 new channels.

But 14XX is for pop up channels (for up to 48hours) and Pay Per Views channels.

TS30 isn't visible on digitalbitrate it would have been C 051 before it was removed. TS 514 is also used for tests on some internal networks and 1405 & 1406 originally looked similar to an existing test on 1404. They won't be new channels, the TS30 channels are duplicates of BBC channels, More 4 variations and thinks like Sky News. Not a preparation for housekeeping either, the channels on TS30 have a new service type, not "digital television service".

I'm really happy to see the match, I was going to miss it otherwise, but if Channel 4 have paid as much as rumoured it doesn't sound worth it for approx 3 hours. And they're possibly also paying to give free advertising to Amazon, there could be a small Prime Video logo somewhere in the on-screen graphics.

It's worth it if they can recoup it with advertising revenue. Clearly, this is going to be a well-watched programme tonight.

Well there's massive Prime Video logos everywhere, so they've basically paid to promote a rival. Short term gain for long term loss.

There's loads of news, but it's just shifted onto the streamers.

Netflix is having a three hour "Global Fan" event on the 25th to showcase all its new shows and new seasons of existing shows like Stranger Things and Ozark, so there's plenty going on, just on different "platforms".

I found it out a wee while back, omnidirectional and TIGHazard posted about it on a couple of threads on Digital Spy back on the 6th September. I didn't have any more at the time so didn't post here.

Their source was the same as the one RXTVlog later gave in their article.
https://www.bbc.co.uk/schedules
(The data shown on screen varies according to the device and orientation you view it on.)

Apparently this source was accurate about BBC Scotland channel launching before it was announced, so it can't be disregarded offhand as a glitch on the BBC website, but I did read it has got a date wrong once regards a different service (I forget which) launching, though it did launch. The BBC Scotland launch was more recent and the date was correct, so coupled with the recent BBC-Sky deal I mentioned on the Local TV thread last night, I think it's fairly likely to happen. Just my opinion though.

---------- Post added at 11:31 ---------- Previous post was at 11:27 ----------

I just checked that BBC Schedule website again, since I noticed BBC Parliament HD and BBC Alba HD are listed there now, and they too have the 21st as the start.

Exact wording is "Broadcast schedule begins on Thursday 21 October 2021".

I think the BBC HD Regions are being pushed along to ensure that BBC Three gets the EPG slot when it returns in the new year.

That's certainly going to be part of the reasoning.

The old STV HD EPG slot (113) is empty in Scotland on VM, so that could be used for something. I was surprised when they didn't use it for BBC Alba and moved it to the ITVBe+1 slot here instead, but maybe they foresaw a need when BBC3 returned so didn't put it on a lower number.

That’s a good shout though eventually the ITV HD slot may become vacant going forward in the rest of the regions.

I read that ofcom have given EPG operators 18 months to move it (BBC Three) to a top slot so it may launch further down the guide.

Are they currently keeping 113 for overlapping ITV HD Regions, as I thought all the ITV regions that are needed on VM have already got an HD version on the network?

BBC Four HD moving to Channel 108.
and BBC Scotland HD and Channel 4 Wales* moving to channel 113.

Channel 4 has to be within the Top 8 EPG positions according to the OFCOM rules brought into effect at the beginning of this year, so your suggestion can't happen. That's why Sky Atlantic isn't on 108 on Sky in Wales.

VM's CEO has confirmed their IPTV service will launch by the end of the year.

Interesting timing with Sky over IP expected to be officially launched in the next few weeks.

Their source was the same as the one RXTVlog later gave in their article.

I just checked that BBC Schedule website again, since I noticed BBC Parliament HD and BBC Alba HD are listed there now, and they too have the 21st as the start.

Exact wording is "Broadcast schedule begins on Thursday 21 October 2021".

The story is also now on my blog

Was my info right?

If not PM me and I will update my blog when I can.

Dropping HD from the DOG doesn't mean they will not stay in HD. Sky dropped HD from their DOGs a couple of years back.
