Yeah not much on channel news here, just apps and testing more than anything.
Then again there really isn't much more channel wise for vm to add either, sources say UHD is in testing mode on vm on a on demand basis and 2 channels we suspect these channels to be Eurosport and Discovery.
We can confirm Nowtv is not in vms plans in the near future and Amazon has gone quiet for some reason.

I think apps is the way of the future, theone. I'm sure we will get Amazon before too long now.

Well June arrives next week and summer is usually the quietest time for the TV providers.

Why they keep relying on YouTube when they have bt sport lazy I think so

VM don't have BT Sport UHD!?

The only people that have access to BT Sport UHD are some of BT's tv customers - and not even all of them can receive it

Amazon TV App got a whole lot better in the past couple of weeks with their Feature TV add-ons.

But still a shame that they (nearly) all need an extra subscription on top of the current subcription.

My objection is that there are channels that are more in demand out there that we are not getting, and the additions that we do get from time to time are a let down.

I'm glad you are pleased that Talking Pictures is launching. However, it's not for me, I'm afraid.

Fair enough OB; the point about TP is that it's a freeview channel, there's not really much excuse for paying VM subscribers not to get these.
I know some want Sky Atlantic, but that isn't on freeview, and Sky are protecting it for commercial reasons. Personally can't see anything on it worth watching, but each to their own.

Information was found by MB HQ using Virgin Media Ireland web site and playing about with their TV Anywhere page.

It always makes me laugh that members are complaining about problems with VM and any new channels coming.

I know that Talking Pictures is coming in June. Its about time customers with VM spoke with there wallets. And stopped paying subs to VM.

VM is a second rate company whjo don't care aboiut brining channels for customers. And take customers for a ride.

I am always being stopped by sales reps in Hounslow and asking about joining VM. When saying we are with VM. They then asked if they could REDUCE our account. After checking, they stated that we could have a discount as we already had a cheap discount.. When we said we could go over to Sky, they said 'go on then' that's what l call good salesmanship.

Its about time that VM put customers first, and got rid of customers services abroad. Keep CS in the UK.

The interesting thing about Worldbox is that it dumps the entire favourites list each time some trivial new stream is added. Very flawed.

Er, if you stopped paying the subs, you'd stop receiving the channels. Seems to be a bit of a flaw in your argument, Arthur.

If Virgin was that bad, you'd be with Sky for all your pay tv by now, wouldn't you?

Agree with BIB as you know i had issues with VM rather than bleat on about it i voted with my feet and actually went ahead and cancelled everything and switched, if more people did this to companies instead of moaning on forums vm,sky etc probably do not read then companies will probably sit up and take notice.

Two reasons why I want Amazon and either Sky Atlantic or Now TV Entertainment Pass on Virgin. One is so that all the programmes I want to see are available through the V6 and the other is that the more the V6 is regarded as a comprehensive streaming box, the more attractive this will be to potential subscribers.

More subscribers = more money coming in = more money for new content = very satisfied OLD BOY.

Sorry, but I thought I had already explained this. Virgin will eventually sink if it doesn't keep ahead of (or at least keep up with) the game.

Den, old chap, no matter how old we get, it is always better to look forward rather than back! Hope is what keeps us all going.

Hope for the future, as Paul McCarney says, and he's about 10 years older than me! Play the video on You Tube! Well worth pondering! 😂

Lack of apps, freely available on many popular devices, will not determine whether Virgin sinks. it is a pay TV provider and that will determine it's future. Sky has neither Netflix or Amazon and survives quite well, aided by the fact that they also provide a streaming service. VM are not in a position to do that. Adding freely available streaming services to VM is nice, but by no means essential

I don't agree with that assessment, PB. Having everything on one device and being able to search out all content, whether it's on live TV or on demand from Virgin's own system or any of the additional OTT services would make a neat package.

If what you think was true, why would the Roku be such a success? This offers you loads of streaming services with limited pay TV channels and a rubbish EPG. If VM had all these apps, plus a greater range of TV channels and on demand content provided by Virgin, this would be a better service than Roku currently offers.

Don't be surprised if this is precisely the kind of service that Sky will be offering a couple of years down the line via its new IPTV service. This will leave Virgin way behind, unless the company goes for it now.

Isn't one of Virgin's straplines 'Keep up'? VM needs to follow its own mantra.

Why distinguish between apps and channels? Surely it's the content that's important, and Netflix has plenty of that.

Yeah but to be fair that is an additional cost to the virgin media customers but channels are included in the package

Two months ago 7 months after sky launched uhd

Virgin Media is in no hurry to make ultra-high-definition TV available on its network, according to owner Liberty Global.

But Mike Fries, Liberty Global’s chief executive, insists that the cable networks owned by his company, which include Virgin Media in the UK, are more than up to the challenge, if and when customers demand it.

“We’ve got the spectrum if we need it – as do most cable operators – but I think it’s too soon to tell. People are just now getting used to their big screens. They’ve just spent hundreds, thousands of dollars on these big screens,” Fries told an audience at Cable Congress in Amsterdam.

At present, he said, consumers are not demanding it and content providers are not providing it, “But we’re prepared. Our networks are the most robust in the marketplace. So if 4K becomes something that consumers have to have, we’ll certainly be able to do it. We’ll be in a wait-and-see mode,” he added.

That article is dated 26/03/2014 but the date is oddly not shown in full on all pages so I can understand the confusion! This shows the full date http://www.cableforum.co.uk/article/

The positive news today is that LGI in Germany known as Unitymedia is launching a UHD channel in the Autmn! But don't think Unitymedia is leaps ahead of VM; it's only just started shutting down its analogue service!

The price of the package reflects the cost of the channels in it. Hence, prices do rise when new channels are added. VM is not a charity.

Neither are their customers OB, what we pay to VM for their top package is a complete rip off imo, and I include Sky in this too, ok, we all have the choice whether to pay or not, but I believe these top companies are operating a cartel, they won't tell you this for obvious reasons, but when you look at what they charge, they're packages ain't that far off in similarity, cost wise.
If it wasn't for the football i'd have dumped VM ages ago, and used the likes of Netflix and Amazon for my viewing, because quite honestly the amount of dross on VM just isn't worth the money imo.

Unfortunately, there's not much Virgin can do. They have to pay to carry these channels, and there is not a huge profit margin in it for them. It wasn't long ago when Virgin were not making any profit at all out of Sky Movies, for example, although this has now been rectified.

When I think back to my BT days back in the 1990s, our telephone bill alone cost me the same as I'm paying now for landline, TV and broadband, so I am not complaining.

I do accept that a lot of the channels we get are dross, and I understand the frustration of those who say they have to pay for loads of channels they never watch in order to view the few good ones.

However, paid for individually, each channel does cost quite a lot, as you can now see quite starkly with those Amazon channels.

Someone has posted elsewhere that to receive Talking Pictures on VM, one has to subscribe to Sky Cinema (even though TP themselves stated that they would be available FTA on VM).

Surely this can't be correct?

Which pack is it in, imo it should be in the M/Player packs as it's available on Freeview.

Talking Pictures is in Mix TV and above

RichardCoulter 01-06-2017 13:48

Re: Coming Soon to Virgin Media TV (2017)

Thanks Ben, good to know we don't have to subscribe to Sky Cinema to receive it!

Is Mix TV the equivalent to M+ and do those customers get it too?

BenMcr 01-06-2017 13:58

Re: Coming Soon to Virgin Media TV (2017)

I believe Mix is classed as 'above' M+ and More.

So Talking Pictures is Mix, Fun and Full House.

Player, M+ and More TV won't get it.

Re: Coming Soon to Virgin Media TV (2017)

Yes, l do have disagreements on this forum concerning VM. And my disappointment with VM.

I was with cablke since Cable Corporation days. I was told a pack a lies by the sales rep, and went in for the service. We got rid of a extremely poor service after two weeks.

We went over to Sky for the next few years, and didn't have ANY problems- apart from the weather. My wife went over to Telewest, and stayed with BOTH services for the next couple of years. I then got made redundant. VM agreed to give us SIX months FREE. Sky would not, so Sky went.

VM came along, and we we stayed with them. But my god the service was terrible, fault after fault, lie after lie from there customer services.

So l persuaded my wife to go over the Sky, this was twelve months ago. We kept VM for the basic channels, and BT Sports. as we got a deal from VM.

Sky deal is up in July. So we compared the past TWELVE months. My family and l have had problems with VM. My mother in law has had terrible problems with VM. Three engineers, and an a letter to CEO and problems we had. With Sky, NO PROBLEMS

There are not enough channels on VM and there is still arguments with VM about SA - who have offered deals to VM, but they wont accept these deals - at the end of the day, we will end up paying anyway.

So what is my deal. We will stay with Sky, but keep VM as it is.

I will pay with my feet, And until VM buck up there ideas, l feel that VM will lose customers. As they are just second rate business company. Yes, they have to make there profits. But at the end of the day. Its WE the customer that ends up paying the bill.

And the reason why Talking Pictures is on VM. Is because its a FREE CHANNEL. This is the only channels will get onto vm.

Meanwhile.. back on the subject of "coming soon"

Blaze is currently operating off the EPG on Virgin Media with video / audio streams present across the national network. NIT tables indicate that active tests are taking place on 6 internal networks used to test new services. Indications are that Blaze was added at some point during May 30th. (Transport Stream 7 - SID 702.)

Zee Punjabi is on the move again - this time from Transport Stream 15 (SID 1519) to Transport Stream 20 (SID 2015).

Eagle eyed readers may possibly remember that Transport Stream 20 (SID 2015) was previously used for Fox News Channel "tests". All traces of Fox News Channel have now been removed. Sorry Vince, it just wasn't meant to be. :sorry:

More like they are playing musical chairs. They wouldn't need to do this sort of thing to add the extra channels, and there is no guarantee that VM will actually be adding Zee's new channels in the near future. If they had been moving all of the Zee channels onto one transport stream, I could see the logic behind your suggestion, but they seem to be spreading them around.

It's probably just internal housekeeping to balance the load across the transport streams.

At some point, they will have to make room for the BBC's Summer Red Button streams, assuming that the BBC repeat the trend seen in recent years.

Indeed, I was already aware of the satellite tests. The BBC don't appear to have made any announcements about the service yet, which they had done in previous years. So there isn't a clear indication of which other platforms will carry the extra streams. As the BBC is moving away from broadcast Red Button streams in favour of "Connected Red Button" IPTV streams, it will be interesting to see how this develops. (Which was my point about assuming the BBC repeats the trend seen in recent years.)

Can't see the point of Gold in HD personally. Very few of the programmes they show (if any?) were made in HD. I like my 70/80's sitcoms in PAL 625 lines, they wouldn't look right any other way.
