Theres no other league in Europe that would make a side play on a Sunday when they have a champions league game midweek. Its like the FA want England to lose the 4th spot in the competition...

You're miss understanding the fact the premier league is the step you take before going the China or the US. You come for the money, the contract ensures the money. Why stress yourself when you're earning £150000 plus per week? Get that 90 minutes out the way so you can get back to driving ferraris an hitting the town with extremely fit women.

Re: Football Season 2015/2016

I feel that footballers, get to much money. Get pampred too much.

And for managers to complain about too many games is an insult to the football fan. Who forks out money each week to go to games. Which is overpriced.

Someone said last week, to go an see Real Madrid, it cost a TENNER - l may be wrong, but that's what l heard.

When clubs enter competitons, its there duty under the rules, to play there STRONEGST team.

The FA cup is one of the best cups in the world. And yet clubs insult its, by playing under strength sides.
And then, say they play too many games. So what, if they play on Saturday, then a Tuesday. What wrong in that.

I read today that Loris, of Spurs will be offered a pay rise, making him 100.000 per week. And he just has to stand between the sticks and save the ball.

I wish l could earn 100/200.000 per week. And l have to save lives

He who laughs last.:p:

Just back home from OT.

Considering all the youngsters on the pitch at Old Trafford tonight it was a very good performance. both young fullbacks played very well and Rashford up front looks very promising.

Has to be said though, even though FC Midtjylland put the Saints out in the last round they would struggle week in week out in the English 1st division.

The fact United beat a team at OT that didn't even exist 18 years ago doesn't change the fact LVG needs to go NOW. OK if Mourinho will only come in at the end of the season then fine but last night's result means nothing.

Just back from OT, that was worth the cost of my season ticket alone. Once again the kids did us proud, Obviously haven't seen a replay yet but from my position it looked like a clear penalty in the first half, the United player appeared to be just inside the box when he was tripped.

To clarify from the League cup wiki page

Quote:

Winners also qualify for European football with a place in the UEFA Europa League - although this place is transferred to the highest-placed Premier League team not already qualified for Europe, should the winner also qualify for the Champions League at the end of the season
So no to your question.. The place goes to the next in line in the Premier League rankings

I think the PL title, is now a two legged race. Its between Tottenham and Leicester.

Arsenal, are doing there usual by cracking. For TWO Arsenal former players to say that Wenger, should resign. Says something.

And what about Walcott, cannot even get a starting place.

I think that when Spurs play Arsenal on Saturday. Arsenal will have to go up two gears to beat Spurs.

I think that this is the game that will decide the title race.

I have been a Spurs fan all my life. And this is the first time that l can see things happen.

IF, we don't win the PL, then top four will be brilliant. Spurs have a young squad and are playing with passion.

In Arsenal, they should have bought big, in the transfer window.

I know that everyone, knows that l am a Spurs fan. I believe that the race with go to the wire, and it will end up, that the top two will end up on the SAME points, and it will go on GOAL DIFFERENCE

I have even taken the day off work to watch the game on telly

Adam Johnson found guilty of 3 out of 4 charges and a custodial sentence is inevitable. Shame.

Are Sunderland going to cough up anytime soon about them playing a child groomer despite admitting his guilt to both the police and Sunderland in the same week of his arrest. Or are we just ignoring that there was a known child groomer playing football on TV? Justice done? I couldn't have been more supportive of Sunderland when they sacked him but to then reveal they knew all along is pretty despicable.

Statement from Sunderland AFC.

To respect the legal process, Sunderland AFC was unable to comment on this case until after the jury had delivered its verdict. It has now done so and we thank our supporters for their patience and understanding. We now wish to clarify certain matters which arose during the trial.

Mr. Johnson was suspended by the club immediately following his arrest on March 2, 2015. At that time, the club was advised by police of the broad nature of the allegations against Mr. Johnson, who was being advised at all times by his own legal team. The club felt that the decision to suspend was appropriate at that time, even though he had not then been charged with any offence. Two weeks later, his suspension was lifted after a meeting between the club and the Professional Footballers' Association (PFA), and after the club took independent legal advice. The club reached this decision only after carrying out a safeguarding assessment and liaising with relevant agencies.

On 23 April 2015, Mr. Johnson was charged with four offences. The club was informed that it was Mr. Johnson’s intention to defend all the charges, a stance he maintained right up until the first day of trial. The club continued to review the safeguarding procedures it had put in place throughout this time.

On 4 May 2015, an introductory meeting took place between Mr. Johnson, his father and Orlando Pownall QC. Mr. Pownall had not previously met Mr. Johnson. The club’s CEO was present during part of that meeting. During the time that she was present there was no suggestion whatsoever that Mr. Johnson would be changing his plea. Some documents were received relating to the case, which were immediately sent to Mr. Pownall for his attention. However, the club was not in a position to make any judgment on the outcome of the case nor on Mr. Johnson’s decision to defend all the allegations. Following that meeting, Mr. Johnson again confirmed to the club, presumably on advice from his own legal team, that his intention was to defend the charges in their entirety and he was confident of success once all evidence had been considered. He subsequently entered not guilty pleas to all charges on 6 June 2015.

The club did not give evidence either for the prosecution or the defence in this case. It was therefore not present in court when it is understood that a suggestion was made that the club knew all along that Mr. Johnson was intending to change his plea just before trial to enable him to continue to play football for the club and that the club may also have been involved in tactical discussions about the plea. This is utterly without foundation and is refuted in the strongest possible terms. The club never placed any pressure or demands on Mr. Johnson to play football during this process. Decisions in relation to the pleas and the conduct of the trial have been left entirely to Mr. Johnson and his highly experienced and skilled legal team. Mr. Johnson has admitted in evidence that he changed his plea “on legal advice”.

The club only became aware of the change of plea, in relation to two of the four counts on the indictment, on the first day of the trial, after hearing it reported through the media. The club was not advised in advance that Mr. Johnson would plead guilty to any offence. Had the club known that Mr. Johnson intended to plead guilty to any of these charges, then his employment would have been terminated immediately. Indeed, upon learning of the guilty plea on 11 February 2016, the club acted quickly and decisively in terminating Adam Johnson’s contract without notice.

This has been an extremely difficult time for all involved. The victim and her family have endured an unimaginable ordeal in the last 12 months and we trust that they will now be allowed to move on with their lives without further intrusion or public scrutiny.

Following the announcement of today’s verdict and the release of this detailed statement, the club intends to make no further comment.

I would think the statement Sunderland have made is all fact. I would find it highly unlikely they would've kept him on if they knew he was going to plead guilty but you can see why Johnson would lie to them to keep on playing and earning a wage. Surely the club would know the repercussions of employing someone who has admitted to child abuse? Why would they risk keeping him?

I can see this going on for a bit, convenient that it's somehow gotten away from the man actually guilty. I'm not sure but I think the PFA had a bit to say about him playing whilst awaiting trial yet it's only Sunderland being hounded.

Newcastle to open talks with Moyes and Benitez as McClaren is set for the sack. Probably tomorrow.

He won't put up with the type of restrictions Ashley will insist on, Moyes has and will however

It's said Moyes will come on the condition he has final say on transfers, something Newcastle fans have begged for now for a while. What more does Benitez want? I have nothing against the guy but I think Moyes is the right man for Newcastle. He'll have more money in 2 seasons than he had over his entire span at Everton on top of being the man that brought some form of stability and consistency to a club he couldn't spend anything at.

Rafa could do better than Newcastle but I don't think he could make much difference anyway.

Done anyway, Newcastle enter crisis talks with McClaren. Expected to be sacked, announcement tomorrow.

I think the Spurs v Arsenal derby was a great game, yes, there was the red card. But most derbies end in a draw.

Sad thing was the violence at the game. Reminds me of the old days at Tottenham.

I don't think there is anything to stop Leicester. Spurs will finish second Manchester City Third, with Arsenal Third.

Arsenal have to sack Wenger. He is a loser, always whinging at Officials. He should have played Giroud, and Walcott from the start.

Then l think we would have a different game.

And that's coming from an Ardent Tottenham fan.

I just want to rub the salt in the wounds of Gunner fans. We will finish TOP London side.

Its been reported that Poch, is in demand from Chelsea and Mancherster United. Snd been given the accolade by a footballer, of being a great Manager.

Not only has Poch, been named Manager of the Year. He has been approached to be the new Manager of both Chelsea and Manchester United.

Spurs would be totally mental if they allowed him to go. He can do the same job at Spurs, where there is great morale - and that means titles coming up.

Les Ferdinand, said that he would play for Poch, as he is a GREAT manager.

Newcastle hold another crisis board meeting today minus McClaren whom is a board member for whatever reason. Unverified but likely legit, Lee Charnley and Bob Moncur both board members were awaiting the arrival of someone at Central station earlier. One side thinks McClaren will be on for Leicester, the other thinks David Moyes arrived at Newcastle for talks.

Newcastle approach Benitez. Unsure whether Newcastle spend yesterday talking with Moyes or whether Benitez was the first choice. Still time for them to do nothing of course but this seems to have all but sealed McClarens fate.

What else can you expect from a club which runs things like a club still in the amateur league.

adzii_nufc 09-03-2016 20:34

Re: Football Season 2015/2016

It could be as suggested that McClaren has already been told he's been sacked but Newcastle won't move until Benitez has officially signed. It's suggested he expects complete control over the transfer dealings at the club along with £70 million to spend (which was guaranteed anyway for any manager)

The stall appears to be on his contract length with other suggestions saying he want's to first sign an interim deal that would then see him get an new contract with the above transfer dealings penned in should Newcastle survive, but then also insuring himself against Newcastle going down by having the ability to walk away.

Don't blame him, Ashley doesn't seem to be interested in the club anymore. I get the impression he only bought the club to make himself look good to the fans, which has backfired now because he hasn't invested in the club with decent signings. But I think they'd be better off with McLaren still, Rafa is not the manager to keep them up.

Newcastle spent more than anyone, in fact they spent more than all the club's in Germany put together, whatever divisions at the club aren't caused by money.

Indeed, that's an old argument and can't be used this year and following years given the pledge of £50 million a window, (£70 million for summers)

Thus far he's delivered both each window.

- Poor tactics (Manager)
- Awful recruitment policy (Lee Charnley & Graham Carr)
- Too much foreign investment.

Playing with a massively inexperienced team most of the time, many of which barely speak English. which brings in the point of Graham Carr, besides Yohan Cabaye and a select few, he's made more arses of it than good. Cabella and Thauvin are a chunky £25+ million and we're still waiting to see what he actually saw in them.

Spanish media report Rafa Benitez has signed a 3 year contract at Newcastle United.

British media are running the story but the more serious outlets are expecting another long day for fans and that nothing is concrete but there is solid movement on either side.

Re: Football Season 2015/2016

It literally just struck me, it's possible the reason Benitez is on his way to Newcastle as we speak to finalize the deal and McClaren is still in a job is because McClaren isn't being sacked completely, he's being relieved of his duty as First Team coach but will continue his role on the board of directors. :erm:

It kinda makes sense. He could still be sacked obviously but would you want to be at a club that's been actively speaking to Benitez to replace you?

Either are plausible, there's no doubt that a 3 year contract will include a clause allowing both club and manager to part company upon relegation.

This would be the biggest manager at Newcastle since the late Sir Bobby Robson. Are times changing, The money is there, the manager is there, the stadium is there so why can't we have nice things? I'd take 8th place finishes!

I hope this gets done soon as we get our first interview ''Fact, Manchester United...''

Circulating the north that Steve McClaren has been sacked as Newcastle United manager. Rafa Benitez to be announced as Newcastle United manager imminently. Sky sources also reporting McClaren looks or is set to be sacked imminently. Expect an announcement shortly.

Update: Press and rightsholders called to Darsley park as NUFC set to make announcement.

Speculated that McClaren learnt of his fate via the media and not the club's personnel. Pretty dire that if true.

Be a massive plot twist if a Range Rover pulls up and Harry Redknapp sticks his head out of the window.

A Europa League lineup that's better than the Champions League fixtures this week :D

Chelsea out, Arsenal going out, City the last light in the champions league.

Spuds and one of Liverpool or United. Typical that two english teams would pull each other out. Much rather it be a semi final.

Edit: It's nice to see both Spurs and Dortmund in the same position but it's pretty evident which one is fielding a weaker team.

There was no foul there at all in my opinion, blatant dive.

I still don't know how Fellaini gets a game. We have no control in midfield because of him. Carrick has to come on second half for him or we stand no chance
