i dont know how freeview channels are so hard to acquire though! is anyone trying?? or are they just wanting to build up profits. To a cynic i think its the latter. i think this new company arent going to hang around too long in the uk. we're seeing huge price increases. no new services at the moment. the odd new channel filtering through due to new contracts. classic strategy of a company trying to sell. |

Re: Coming Soon to Virgin TV (2015) Vol. 1
Virgin said they could not do me a better deal either. I must say Sky do seem to have some very good incentives to join at the moment such as a free tv or 12 months half price. However Sky is not an option for me due to trees and line of sight etc. I am slightly tempted by Talk Talk and BT but sometimes it is better the devil you know.
I do find it frustrating that most of the time a new channel launches you sort of know it wont be on Virgin for a while. I do hope that History Hd is one of the channels testing as it is long overdue. |

Instead of a 12/18 month contract, we should be allowed to sign one for a longer period of time, but also receive a bigger loyalty discount.
I'd rather stay with VM and be a loyal customer rather than having to chop and change every other year just to get the best deals. It would also mean VM would be guaranteed to get my money. Ben, what are your thoughts on this? Be interesting to hear from a VM perspective. |

Re: Coming Soon to Virgin TV (2015) Vol. 1
Here's a question for everyone, but maybe theone2k10 will be able to respond more accurately. It's £33 a month for TV XL standalone with TiVo, now that obviously gives you a lot of channels, most of which imo are a load of total tosh, and I only watch a handful of what's on offer, anyway back to the question.
Does anyone think it would be more beneficial to drop the Virgin TV package and take on more streaming services like Netflix, Amazon Prime etc? It does seem to me that in doing so it would be quite a bit cheaper than the £33 for the XL package, iirc Netflix is approx £6 per month and I'm not so sure about Amazon Prime but I wouldn't think it would be that much more than Netflix. So if you had both of these services at the same time, I'm thinking that it would more than keep you satisfied with the channels that they offer at a fraction of the cost. Thoughts? |

We are fully prepared to jack pay TV in and go with a combination of Freeview, Netflix, Amazon Instant Video and NOW TV as an alternative. We're lucky to have all 3 apps built into our Smart TV. You can get all 3 services for less than £17 per month if you shop around. £5.99 for Netflix, £5.99 for Amazon and NOW TV for as little as £5.00 per month if you buy their 5 month pass from Argos for £25.00. What I like is the idea of being able to effectively eliminate your monthly TV bill entirely, if you can afford a 1 off splurge. A one off £79.00 payment gives you Amazon Instant video for a full 12 months plus a years worth of NOW TV passes can be picked up for £60.00. That's £139.00 up front for 12 months of great TV, subscription free! If your worried about missing football, worth considering switching your sim to BT. BT Sports included via their Sports app for only £10.00 per month. BT have confirmed: "If you've got the right equipment at home to connect your PC, laptop, smartphone or tablet to your TV, then you'll be able to stream the app onto your TV. Alternatively, find out more about using Google Chromecast to watch BT Sport on your TV." Amazing deal! http://www.productsandservices.bt.co...ans/nonbb.html |

For the average home, 4k is not necessary and just another marketing tool for equipment manufacturers to sell more goods. They're still smarting from the fact that 3D didn't take off as they hoped, with people rushing out to replace their perfectly good TV with a 3D version. |

It doesnt make sense to have a non HD tele and be on the VIP/Big Daddy package. VM would probably also find, customers with HD/4K tv have access to a wider range of their services (HD/3D/4K content when it comes) will spend more per month than those without a HD tele. Therefore they should be encouraging people to want to access the better picture quality of HD, but without making them break the bank so they can afford to purchase a TV to go with it. Afterall, as a media company, don't you want your customers to be able to enjoy the best of what your product(s) has to offer? ---------- Post added at 16:56 ---------- Previous post was at 16:54 ---------- Quote:

2 things: 1. Read recently that LG aren't concerned about 4k and are concentrating on OLED. 2. Bought an AV Receiver & speakers from a nation-wide chain selling AV gear recently and whilst I was waiting to pay I turned to see a large (guess would be 55") 4k Sony TV with what appeared to be a bar down the middle. I asked what it was and was told that the left hand side of the screen was showing 4k and the right hand side was showing 1080p. Said I couldn't see any difference and the guy behind the counter said, "A lot of people say that, depends what's on". I was about 6' away. Also interesting, from a marketing point of view, that the industry has gone from 720 to 1080 to 4k -not 2160. |

Re: Coming Soon to Virgin TV (2015) Vol. 1
My LG 4K TV is only 49" but I have noticed a significant improvement in picture clarity & definition over my previous LG HD set, even when just upscaling.
Had a few visitors mentioning it as well unprompted. At the end of the day its a personal view. "In the eye of the beholder" as they say. Would also mention when watching a couple of 4K movies recently. Observed one appeared much better than the other. So presume other factors can come into play. |

I believe that VM should have a survey with subs' and ask them 'what' channels they would like to have on the VM system Or is it that the Directors who run VM wake up in the morning and ask themselves, what can we annoy the customers with today |

---------- Post added at 13:22 ---------- Previous post was at 13:17 ---------- The new All 4 digital service which replaces 4OD commences on 30 March. It's billed as coming to set top boxes later in the year, so hopefully it will be on TIVO boxes in the not too distant future. http://www.brandrepublic.com/article...ital-service-4 Channel 4 to drop 4oD for digital service All 4 Channel 4 is dropping its catch-up service 4oD for a new online destination called All 4, which will host all of Channel 4's linear channels, digital content and services. The All 4 brand will replace the eight year old 4oD brand on all platforms from the end of the first quarter, 2015. The digital interface will archive Channel 4 content into three categories – On Demand (past), Now (present) and On Soon (future). On Demand will house all of Channel 4’s catch up content and its archive – integrating all available programme related information such as cast interviews and galleries with on-demand content for the first time. Now will be where viewers can watch live broadcasts from all Channel 4’s channels and engage with a range of content experiences which are of-the-moment – e.g. interactive content formats, news clips, short form videos and social media feeds. On Soon will showcase new programme clips and promos allowing viewers to set reminders and alerts for future shows to drive awareness of upcoming content – and watch a selection of exclusive episode premieres before their linear TV broadcast. All 4 will launch initially on PC and iOS devices before being extended to other digital platforms across 2015. Channel 4’s newly launched ‘Shorts’ programmes will be tightly integrated across all three states, with Shorts additionally available in a dedicated Shorts hub. Drawing on Channel 4’s database of more than 11 million viewers (which now includes 1 in 2 of all 16-34 year olds in the UK), All 4 promises to surface an increasingly bespoke set of content and related experiences for viewers. David Abraham, chief executive of Channel 4, said: "Having been a pioneer of VoD services in the UK, we think the future of TV viewing lies not with either linear or on-demand, but a creative and visual integration of the two worlds, blending the strengths of both into a single brand. "We believe All 4 will deliver the most advanced broadcaster response to changing viewer behavior in the digital age, and will help ensure that our content portfolio remains an important, valued part of viewers’ TV consumption for decades to come." Keith Underwood, director of strategy and technology at Channel 4, added: "We want to evolve our digital estate to reinforce the online association with our linear channel brands and to provide a broader range of content experiences in an increasingly personalised manner. "This is a significant change programme which will be delivered iteratively over the next year." |

Re: Coming Soon to Virgin TV (2015)
Does anyone ever watch these shopping channels? I haven`t watched one for years. And when I say watched I mean it was on in the background.
