Is the taskbar issue sporadic or is it happening during certain tasks, movements etc. ?

You're going to have to expand on clunky and awkward. It could mean bad system specs or running order and inability to accept change

The taskbar issue is is sporadic, some times it just sits there and doesn't move, so I reboot and all is well, also since upgrading ( if you can call it that) to W10 I am now having terrible trouble with Flash Shockwave crashing, this never happened before W10 was installed.

Having put mine in autohide and done a little searhing something your end has got to be triggering the taskbar issue. Is OneDrive running in the taskbar, notification area? If so exit the program, close it down. It could also be display driver related. Any compatibility issues should already be fixed to be honest. Be sue you have the latest drivers installed, or some cases not :erm:

I'd say Win 10 and even Win 8 looks far better than WinME.

Last night I decided time was right to upgrade my ASUS laptop from Win 7 HP to Windows 10.

Backed up Docs & Created System Image then started upgrade. Upgrade took around 90 mins, only issue on startup was Comodo Firewall blocked internet access, but clicked Fix and Comodo downloaded and installed new s/w and everything worked!

So far no other issues, all programs appear to run OK.

Just one question, there doesn't appear to be a Hibernate in the power settings?

Found the answer to my Hibernate question, was just not showing in power button options, see http://winaero.com/blog/add-hibernat...in-windows-10/

Since a fresh install im having problems with Windows 10 explorer.

For example if im viewing a lot of pictures in a folder, suddenly it will jump back to the top of the folder and i have to start from scratch and its irritating.

If im trying to sort a folder with pictures its taking longer than it should.

I don't think it is. I reverted to Windows 8.1 (using a Desktop computer, keyboard and mouse) when the Nvidia driver on Windows 10 kept giving an error message and causing problems that didn't happen with Windows 8.1. Also, had a full-screen problems with some games. CorelDraw's toolbar background went white with white captions (no patch to be issued for the version I have). I wasn't too keen on the overall UI either and had become accustomed to using Windows 8.1.

I will probably go to Windows 10 again eventually but have no immediate plans to do so. The OS, my programs and everything else run fine on Windows 8.1.

All updated to the latest 10565 fast ring build, no problems so far, there is 1 option that may help people in the future, it lets you change the product key if it fails to activate and you can enter your legit Windows 7/8.1 key.

Quote:

Lastly, those that have struggled in the past to activate their version of Windows 10 can now just simply enter their Windows 7, Windows 8 or Windows 8.1 product key. Naturally, it has to be a valid version, but should make activating or updating to Windows 10 a bit easier.

I think as it stands Windows 10 is pretty good and am pleased it was a free upgrade, i couldn't go back to Windows 7 or 8 now.

We can now clean install and use our existing 7/8/8.1 keys on qualifying devices with this current Insiders build 10565, which is great.

also in non-breaking news, after last night's big update bridged network in vmware stopped working, reinstalled it again and it works again. maybe I need to reinvestigate Virtual PC (well whatever the new one is called) especially as that's what we use at work on the new Win 10 machines (I'm on 7 at work so still VirtualPC), also there was a new virtualbox available last week or so ago so if I'm bored at the weekend I may try that again ;)

Do you mean the 'suggested' phototastic app?

Looking in windows settings you can turn off 'occasionally show suggestions in start' so maybe that will stop it? Atleast that option is there in build 10565. :)

I have to say i am loving Windows 10, in my opinion it is the best version of Windows so far, and am happy it is a free upgrade for the first 12 months, but it seems easy to get hold of it for free anyway by becoming a Windows Insider (atleast i think you can) and this is without piracy.

Mine doesn't load full screen, but i set it to full screen from the normal place in the top right hand corner and it stays full screen when opened again, so have you tried doing the opposite?

My annoyance with Edge is it never opens in the same place on the screen, but i am not ready to use it yet until addons work with it.

According to a trusted source, Microsoft will release the “Threshold 2” (TH2) release of Windows 10 in November as the Windows 10 Fall Update. And unlike the post-RTM Windows Insider builds we’ve been getting, the Fall Update will ship as a cumulative update, not as a full build.

Oh! No! My Windows 10 Home Premium attempted to automatically upgrade to version 1511, 10586 last night. Guess what? It failed at the same point my original Windows 10 upgrade used to fail until I stripped the PC down to bare bones. Have MS not yet overcome the vagaries of systems with different configurations? This is pathetic, bordering on the criminally negligent.

This now means that 100s of millions of people with legacy machines world-wide, and not that old, will struggle to upgrade their Windows 10 even if they are computer savvy.

So here goes, hoping that setting for a clean boot will be enough. If not I will yet again have to remove all peripherals and their drivers.

You can't expect all legacy computers to be compatible, buy a new computer upgrade old obsolete hardware or stay on an older OS.

You really can't expect old hardware to work with everything and that isn't microsofts fault.

Hardly criminal. lol

I know of numerous folk, ( Non-PC Savvy) who were prompted by their systems to automatically upgrade to Windows 10. They allowed their systems to get on with it. Five of them, work colleagues, have had their systems ruined with all attempts to restore their previous versions failing. They have had to pay out to PC World to fix their systems. One who lost all her files is taking legal advice.

Tell me this is OK.

It doesn't sound good, but PC World?? that is asking for trouble.

Luckily i don't know anyone who has had real problems upgrading to Windows 10 so far.

It would appear from your statement that these people haven't bothered to maintain any backup system. I had to do a clean install on my main PC as I had a CPU fan failed and HP insisted that before they took it away to repair that I started from scratch.

click download tool for official ISO's and remember can use windows 7 and 8.1 keys to activate this one so don't have to do a upgrade first if you still on windows 7 or 8.1 :)

l did the big upgrade this morning although it did take two hours into the process.

If you don't like the white window bar you can now change the colour to what your start menu is.

Edit

I guess that maybe automatic now, i can't remember, but it is unfortunately limited as to what control you have.

I did the Windows Home update yesterday not realizing it took ages to complete.
Anyone got a link to the extra features that are now available over and above released version?

There is no link to any files. The changes will be downloaded via the update.

That's why the title of the link is

"Windows 10 November Update - Features, changes, and improvements"

Thanks for that Ken, at least I have something for reference.

This is pathetic, bordering on the criminally negligent.

I've heard dozens of people having the same problem today.

Installed the update on my laptop last night, took nearly as long to install as the upgrade from Win 7 to Win 10.

Everything seems to be working OK and maybe a little faster too!

However check your Privacy settings, mine had reset to default and needed resetting!

Just installed update on one of my Pcs and the Laptop.

Why is this update only for Home and not pro?

roughbeast 15-11-2015 20:28

Re: [Update] Windows 10 Discussion

Today I upgraded our two i7 laptops with no issues whatsoever. I also upgraded my old dual core PC with just the video drivers uninstalled. This is the one where I sacrificed all my old apps and setting to upgrade to the original windows 10 release. I guess this made the version upgrade easier.

Up to now I haven't been able to upgrade my 2011 quad core PC. This is the one I have to strip down to bare bones to upgrade, because I opted to keep my apps and settings when I installed W10. I'll wait until I have a spare couple of hours.

Remembering the ease with which I upgraded from XP to Windows 7 on this machine, I wonder if a Windows 10 retail CD will be as trouble-free when it is released?

I think I'll still hold fire for now. It'll have to be pretty special as my win 8.1 64 runs like a dream, everything works & with Classic Start Menu I get the start menu of my choice. I'm not seeing anything so far compelling me to switch for.

Update ran today, Laptop now in an endless cycle, tries to start, turns off, tries again..........all I get is the ACER logo, then restarts.

Just downloading the Windows media on spare PC to try a start up repair!
