What a good idea ;)

Although I would expect that most people have a DVD recorder or player, I think that it's a minority (mainly younger well off types) who have additional devices. Most can't afford them, I would have thought!

It is so much more convenient to be able to access all broadcast and streaming content over the TIVO and I think it is Liberty Global's strategy to move in that direction.

That's why I'm looking forward to Netflix coming to TiVo, even though I have a laptop, tablet, phone and console I could already be watching it on if I wanted.

Ahh fair enough I misunderstood your original post.

Yeah it's probably a small minority that have access to multiple devices. Though my PS3, Bluray Player and Smart TV are already connected, it's just a couple of button presses on a remote to open the Netflix App

If true, I think that's a shame. Imagine the XL pack being able to offer all those HD channels, free music, BT Sports, ESPN and Netflix to boot! That would be a package to die for and I think it would turn heads.

I hope that this stand alone rumour turns out to be false.

Any ideas ?

Well then I thank you :)

If you read my post, I do acknowledge that there are people who don't like a lot of different devices attached to the TV, and for that reason, it is a good move to add Netflix to Tivo.

Quote:

However some people do like the convenience of everything in one box, so it will be an added value convenience rather than a USP. And there is nothing wrong with added value convenience. The fact that Netflix titles will be included in any Tivo search is another nice feature.

It was a complete replacement of the broadcast systems with new technology, and replacement of the incompatible superheadends with one single one (plus a back-up).

When VM launch channels, everyone gets them at the same time. The rate of software updates is controlled to make sure everything is working and to manage any problems that arise. Sky do exactly the same.

l agree as £9.99 is frankly absurd for what they have and as far as l am concerned they can shove it back from whence it came.

If netflix is the same price on virgin as on computers etc what does virgin gain from this arrangement? A share of the monthly fee? Do Netflix have to pay virgin? I don't understand how both parties would gain from the arrangement. Certainly Netflix would but not virgin?

Haha I do sound disappointed and I would be if this happened but never mind I hope to be compensated in other ways ;)

You could ask the same question of Sony, Samsung, Panasonic etc. who add it to their TVs and other equipment including PVRs. It's added value convenience that makes their product more attractive and on par with competing products.

That was my train of thought. Maybe Premier Sports thought that at that price, there would not be enough customers on the VM platform to make it profitable, hence their push for it to be included in XL.

A better deal from VM may allow the price to be reduced to below £9.99, to drive up take up. If this turns out to be correct, this would mean that Sky customers are again paying more for sport content.

Netflix caters for a different market to any current VOD offered by VM.

Netflix don't offer the latest movie releases, so anyone wanting those would still use the pay for view service offered by VM.

Most of the content streamed by Netflix users is TV series and there is no pay per view TV service offered by VM.

Edit: just remembered; Sony do have their own PPV video service built in as apps on their equipment but still include Netflix and Lovefilm.

for those whose who have not seen this, it looks like good news for those who currently have Netflix. I am very seriously considering paying for Netflix (if I have to) when it comes to VM!!!

I think some VM customers are missing the point why if paying for a VIP package would you want to pay extra for Netflix which basically is an other version of On Demand Services ?????

What's this myth about Netflix not having latest releases?

The Hobbit which was in cinemas in December 2012 was available in July this year... Same with The Hunger Games and Seven Psychopaths. I'd say that's pretty new, how new do you want with all the other tv shows for £6 a month?

If new film releases is your preference, then Sky movies is a better choice for you over Netflix.

Netflix do have a few, but no where near as many as Sky Movies.

Although I do watch a few movies on Netflix, it is mainly TV shows that gets most of my viewing, as I believe is the case for most Netflix subscribers.

I know 6 Sky Atlantic shows that you can get on various Netflix regions (not all US). Non are HBO shows though.

Mad Men
Friday night Lights (originally shown on ITV4 until they dropped it after 2 seasons)
The following
House of Lies
Blue Bloods
The Borgias

It doesn't work like that. Blackburn and Preston are totally unrelated as far as the VM network goes.

It's all down to the way the original cable franchises were carved up. Blackburn got lumped with Manchester; Preston with Liverpool.

Yes, the drivel is annoying.

I hate it when people post just to say that they're giving up on this thread.;)

Why worry about Sky Atlantic content , Netflix has so many great shows anyway House of Cards , Orange is the new black , Breaking Bad they've committed to investing even more in their own original content , they've also mentioned moving into original documentaries and movies meaning the service will go from strength to strength.

Well, the Atlantic shows come up when you search for them, and that led me to believe that Netflix potentially had the ability to overcome our lack of that channel.

Yes, I agree, Netflix has some great shows as you have mentioned. However, my post was about filling the gap that had been created by Sky Atlantic not being available to us.

Even when it comes, there is a fair bit of catching up to do - they are already on Series 4 of Boardwalk Empire, aren't they? Really annoying.
