Maybe we will see if ESPN sells out to BT:
ESPN - BT Sports 1
BT Sports - BT Sports 2
ESPN America - BT Sports America
ESPN Classic - BT Sports Gold

With the BT Sports 2 SD slot on Sky being sold to an other broadcaster.

If BT do buy ESPN America and rename it, I'd prefer them to change the name back to NASN.

I was just thinking the other day about how we still don't have Investigation Discovery. I didn't realise Discovery Channel had moved - although it doesn't matter to me as I have HD so it will be easier using the old number! But wow, how long did Discovery have 212? Must have been at least since I started using their service, which was around 2002.

I need to pay attention to the changelog/coming soon threads more often now. haha

Sorry I understand the suggestion that they are "NEW" but being honest the time it is on is new to the one offered before - the channel offers NOTHING new in any shape or form the only "new" part is" +1" :D

It's a new channel but it doesn't offer new content. If people find them useful then they're worth having for those people. I suspect Arthur's frustration is that he would actually welcome new content, which, regardless of how badly it's put, is actually fair enough. Personally I'm pleased to see the arrival of Id, and Animal Planet in hd, but don't really think Quest +1 is a good way to add value to the xl pack given the recent raft of channels that have been moved to lower tiers and the impending loss of live hd Premier League coverage, so I can understand Arthur's frustration. However, I am, perhaps naively, fully prepared to believe that Virgin have a plan...

I agree , find them most useful. This is all about spin - new channels as opposed to extra choices of time, to watch existing ones offered as "new" ie we have added "new" channels instead of we have added new time slots ( which is what is) Channels sound so much better

Be great if the +1 where in HD;) so potentially we would end up with two new channels for the price of one:D

Again, and I don't intend to keep repeating this ad nauseam, the point was not to make digital copying easy but to enable VM to allow customers to keep their recordings when a box fails. *sigh*

If they are unable to do this then perhaps they should compensate the customer when the box fails...

Watching a plus 1 in Spain would mean you'd watch it at the same time as normal in the UK.

Unless you meant how, then Slingbox.

So base on that Virgin Media look set to reuse them and launch more new channels over the coming months.

Once the Liberty Global sorts their deal with Virgin I think it wouldn't take long for more HD channels to come (Including MGM Movies who co own it with their other company Chellomedia.) Giving sky a run for there money.:D

That's in Spain though isn't it , MGM channel in the UK is a 50/50 joint venture between MGM and BSKYB.

And it's crazy, there's no logical reason why a hard drive from a defective box shouldn't be able to work in an identical box. The idea of PVR users swapping hard-drives to share recorded content is quite ridiculous.

In the UK they would have to deal with MGM/BSKYB however Liberty Globals UPC Ireland already carries MGM HD so I'd assume its a certain possibility , Chellomedia own the pan-EMEA channel and its associated feeds covering countries like Spain , Poland , Turkey , Israel etc.

Food Network is a great channel. It would be a great addition for Virgin.

I think the last two deals has something to do with Liberty Global.

The Chairman of Liberty Global John C. Malone is also on the Board of Discovery who own 20% of Eurosport.

The current programme is being shown in HD. I can tell as its much clearer than the SD channel and my amp says its dolby digital.. They havent bothered to label the programs as HD as they do on the Br Eurosport 1 channel, but then getting the listings 100% accurate has never been a feature of VM ;)

Indeed. Dross is in the eye of the beholder. To me there is some really useful stuff launched just lately. Eurosport 2 HD is good for me but then so are some of the documentary channels etc.

I have been around on here when a channel that means nothing to me is launched but others have been pleased and that has to be good.

I don't know why you are sceptical about Sky's deliberate intention to keep Sky Atlantic for satellite viewers only. Which other cable companies have it? Look at UPC Ireland for example. Sky use Atlantic's exclusivity as a selling point for their satellite system and are quite brazen about it. Simples.

absolutely spot on

What l think a problem is that customers wont pay the extra money to get these channels. Last year VM increased charges, but without new channels.

Hopefully, with this new company we will have new channels especially with this rivalry with Murdoch.

VM have to strong competition to Sky, as BT Vision isn't it, thats when you will get new customers.

1) I do not think that they go toe to toe with Murdoch ( google it if you must)
2) Why do Virgin HAVE to be strong competition to anyone ?
3) I think it has been stated before - I cant be bothered to search perhaps someone else will that where Virgin have connections available the take up is greater than Sky do not really care but sorry if I got this wrong - lies damn lies & stats comes to mind
4) Any figures - not guess work - on how many connections to sky were made because that household MUST have Atlantic & for no other reason.

While I am satisfied with what virgin & the Tivo box offer , BB & Telephone I do not care about. I can not see me moving to Sky, if I did go it would be to Freeview. I found Sky box out of date. lack of channels that it would record. EPG full of rubbish channels . Breaking up of pictures/ freezing.
Sorry in this case the other mans grass is a mellow shade of yellow. Perhaps if it was half ( permanently not a offer) the price of Virgin I would look again. As I do not want a big black saucer on the side of my house with wires all over the shop  It is questionable .

Re: Coming Soon to Virgin TV (2013) Vol. 1.

I think the fact remains - it's very unlikely VirginMedia will ever have exactly the same channels as Sky. If you want access to any particular channel, you need to buy the appropriate service. Look at it this way, VM have a couple of exclusive channels that no-one outside a VM network can currently get access to. At least most of us can always get Sky if we wanted.

I agree both services have hundreds of channels people probably very seldom watch , at the moment I've stuck with Sky purely because we've been enjoying a fair few shows on Sky Atlantic that said that's purely personal preference I'm sure many have no interest at all in it.

I always keep an eye on my options especially when I'm out of contract like I am currently , at the moment I have to admit to enjoying Netflix's offering also.

Combined with a service such as Unblockus, so that you get access to all regions, it's excellent.

I have been looking at the other two British cable providers: Smallworld Cable in Cumbria and Western Scotland and WightFibre in IOW. I am wondering if anyone knows if Virgin Media and Liberty Global do a further merger with these two cable providers, if we will get their weird and wonderful channels that these two services offer such as France 24, Channel AKA and the rest of the Ideal World channels. :(
If you wanna see the channels they offer for yourself, check out these links:

http://www.smallworldcable.com/Cable...timate-TV-Pack
http://www.wightfibre.com/tv/factual

Click these links and see for yourself if any of the channels they have and VM don't are any use to us and post any replies on this thread.

Thanks:D

Re: Coming Soon to Virgin TV (2013) Vol. 1.

Personally I think the main attraction with Sky Atlantic is that the shows that are coming to it are fresh and original.

Virgin need to get or make a channel which resonates in the same way. Would I be right in thinking that they tried this with Virgin1 and failed? What is to stop them trying again?

If you have something on offer that stops customers lusting over a competitors offering then you don't need to also supply the competitors product.

Pray, what new and informative messages to you post about Virgin.
Pot & kettle come to mind. As long as you choose in the VIRGIN part of this forum to post why you think so highly of SKY, I, and not doubt others will share with you, the many reasons why we prefer Virgin.
I have no problems with Sky channels that Virgin take (for what ever reason) & could not (unlike others) care less if Sky choose to withhold or over price others, that is there choice. However my experience of Sky as a conduit of TV channels leaves me thinking that it is a lot of hype*.It is a poor box, with questionable signal.
I repeat yet again if you are happy ( & I wonder if you are) with it, great. Now if that is settled please just go away:D & Post to your hearts content in the Sky section. :erm:
*In fact along the lines that was posted here some time ago regarding TiVo ( something I would still not pay a premium for I must add)

Broadcast: AETN loses High Court battle with Discovery.

Story from Broadcastnow.

A&E Television Networks (AETN) has lost a High Court battle to stop rival broadcaster Discovery using the channel brand Discovery History in the UK.

The two US broadcasting giants initially locked horns at the Royal Courts of Justice last year after AETN claimed that Discovery’s station, which launched in October 2010 after the broadcaster rebranded Discovery Knowledge, infringed the trademark of the History channel.

Because they are not concerning themselves with the content side any more, as you well know.

They could, of course, commission other providers to set up exclusive channels on Virgin Media, but I don't think they want to go down that road.

I think they may be of the view that one platform hogging exclusive programmes, films and sport for themselves is not in the interests of consumers. If VM went down that route, we'd all have to pay for both Sky and VM to access all the channels on which exclusive programming appeared. With BT coming into the fold big time, you can see where this would lead.

Unfortunately, Sky don't seem to care about such niceties as to what is best for the consumer. They might have to re-think if BT start playing hardball with them. If BT withheld exclusive programming (such as football!) from them, we'd never hear the end of it.

My only posts concerns poor reception when using Sky, the lousy service from them when "fixing " the hardware problem. I also stated that my son is very happy with them. It is well recorded here that I have in the past complained about all things Virgin. I carry no flag for them & moan and groan about them with the best. Broadcast: Discovery’s TLC set for long-awaited UK launch

Quote:

Lifestyle channel TLC could make its long-awaited UK debut as early as April, with parent company Discovery moving into the final phase of its launch.

Discovery’s latest internal deadline for the channel, which has been in the planning stages for close to two years, is between late April and early May, although sources close to the company suggest this will depend on whether it can reach a carriage agreement with pay-TV platform BSkyB.
