Perhaps in some regards Telegramsam as l think with the older actors and actresses in it more the acting has more of a vintage quality to it.

I was thinking more about how the men get up to their capers and the women get together over a cuppa, the same as in Summer Wine. Still funny though.

Vikings has been cancelled by History.

It was recently renewed for Season 6, which will now be its final season.
However, rumours are that the channel is plotting a spinoff series to continue the franchise.

Re: Renewals & Cancellations

I think it is the right time. I am glad they have ended it a season in advance with notice because it gives them time to wrap everything up properly and do justice to the characters. I have loved watching this series, the production quality is excellent, it has given me an insight into history and a culture I knew very little about and it is fascinating to see how other people/cultures perceive things and how they view things as being right and wrong.

I liked the idea of it but i hate Sean Penn as an actor, he is one of those people who doesnt really act because he is the same in every film and his "acting" style is only suited to certain roles. SFX reviewed it a couple of issues ago and said it was pants as well so it put me right off.

Altered Carbon
Cobra Kai

Grey’s Anatomy just goes on and on, its now been renewed for a 16th season.

General Maximus 24-01-2019 19:02

Re: Renewals & Cancellations

although they haven't said it I think the 16th season will be it's last. I read an interview with Ellen Pompeo last year just before the fall tv season started and she said she has had enough now, thinks they have explored and developed the character as much as possible and is in talks with Shonda Rhimes on how she can exit the show and how she thinks the entire series should end when the time comes.

The thing is, even though it is going on for 16 seasons, Greys has been superb from day one and there has never been a bad episode. It isn't my favourite series and it doesn't blow me away like GoT and Expanse does but it is the most consistent series I have ever seen in terms of quality. Every episode is excellent, the characters are great, the stories and the weekly medical drama is great and you can believe they are all surgeons and it is happening. I love the series and I recommend it to everyone and anyone. What's not to like?

Paul 24-01-2019 22:18

Re: Renewals & Cancellations

I tried it many years ago, but didnt like it.

Medical drama is not really my thing, seemed too much like a soap opera as well.

I've enjoyed Magnum as well.. Likeable characters. Good stories. Good action.

Not as serious as Hawaii Five-0 can be, but it's fun to watch. You also don't need to be an avid follower of Hawaii Five-0 to follow it (although I also love that series, so, I am). I also think it captures the spirit of the original well (although I would like to see Tom Selleck in to, even if it's just a cameo).

The trouble is, me enjoying a series isn't always a good indicator that it'll be renewed. I am happy to see this one has.

I loved the bit in the new series of Magnum (I think in episode 1, but might be in episode 2), where Magnum is getting tidied up after being in action (in Iraq/Afghanistan in the military Special Forces), and he has his hair cut, starts shaving off his facial hair, shaves off the beard and leaves the big bushy moustache, looks at in the mirror, and goes "nah!", and shaves that off as well... :D

Personally, I still like it, even though they have largely removed Oliver from the Arrow character. However, even if I didn't, I would just stop watching it. I wouldn't call for it to be axed. Not least because sometimes, when I've encountered a series where they've made a change that just hasn't worked, they've realised that and changed it. Axing the series sort of stops that.

For instance, I loved Buffy the Vampire Slayer. A lot of people didn't like Seasons 4 or 6. Season 4 introduced "The Initiative", a shady government organisation that took the series into a conspiracy thriller area that the writers didn't appear comfortable with. Season 6 made the series more soap like, which, again, a lot of people didn't like. Had they axed it after either series, we would not have seen some episodes that are arguably the best of the entire series.

That said, there have also been series where they've made a change that hasn't worked, not sorted it out, and there series has ended up being axed (Heroes being one example).

the problem is that they haven't realised. Diaz did my head in last season, he was such an improbable and OTT bad guy it did my head in, they stretched the story out unnecessarily and there were multiple opportunities the team had to capture him or kill him once and for all and they always let me go. I thought we had finally got rid of him at the end of the season but nope, they have brought him back again and no matter what he does or how many people he kills they just let him keep on going. I get the feeling they are always making the same mistake with Cicada in The Flash.

absolutely, I don't know if they heard about the other series being cancelled while they were filming but coincidentally everything gets wrapped up really nicely at the end of this season so it doesn't matter per se that it has been cancelled. If it gets picked up again on Disney's streaming service they will have an opportunity for a fresh start with new characters and not have to go back and finish certain aspects of the story.

If you have seen seasons 1 and 2 you should definitely see season 3.

I enjoyed all of Buffy. It wasn't a perfect series, and had good and bad episodes in every season, but I liked it. I even liked season 6, because while I didn't think the analogy of the addiction to magic worked that well, Allison Hannigan did a good job of portraying bad Willow, and was clearly having fun.

yeah I read that the other day, I think Coulson leaked it in a press interview. I don't look at it as being cancelled, the series will be ending as planned after 7 seasons and the writers have got two years to ensure their vision comes to fruition, the characters are respected and story is wrapped up properly and they can plan everything meticulously like GoT and ensure it is done perfectly and in no way rushed. Very few series can say they are given this opportunity.

Arrow has been cancelled by CW.
Season 8 will be the final season, and will only consist of 10 episodes.

Not your favourite show General?

I used to enjoy it but the last couple of seasons have been really bad. The bad guy has been completely OTT and the main characters have done completely unrealistic stuff for the sake of drawing out the story. They should let the show die with dignity.

I am still enjoying Arrow. This 7th Season has been pretty good.

However as with a lot of shows once you get to 7-8 seasons then they can be pretty dead in the water.

I thought season 5 of Arrow was the worst and I did loose interest for a while.

At least it will end with a final shorter season. Especially with Crisis coming next year as the big crossover event with the other DC Arrowverse shows.

I could understand them wanting to keep it going for the sake of the DCU a couple of years ago but there is no need now, they are banging out new series left, right and centre.

I'm seeing it as the end rather than being cancelled. The show will end with Crisis on Infinite Earth's which is presumably where Oliver dies given his promise to the monitor. I'd much rather have it like that too than have it continue on with Emiko Queen.

With the existence of LoT it's unlikely the last time Amell plays the green arrow though.

This is probably the only reason it got renewed, and why its only 10 episodes - its almost certainly going to finish on the crossover.

True, dont forget he could also appear in Supergirl or The Flash (even if he dies, they both have time travel capabilities).

I don't know what to make of it tbh, the premise was good but I thought it dragged on for a lot longer than it needed to and I felt like we didn't get enough super hero action. I would have liked to have seen them work together as a group a lot more and kick some ass. I don't know what the story plans are for down the road but hopefully once they have sorted Vanya out they can come together as a team and go on missions together.
