Exactly who is whinging here? and don't tell me to shut up please.

Well he gets it from various staff members obviously!

Exactly what has this forum got to do with where I work??

Absolutely nothing.

I post here of my own free will and offer my VM knowledge to help out forum members that need it. Not to take abuse off people.

I am a very reasonable man but I really am getting sick of the staff attitudes on here, especially when someone who isn't staff like MB who has been bending over backwards for years all of a sudden gets criticised by bleeding VM staff merely for providing us punters with a bit of info.

I don't think Stephen was being rude to MB, he was just pointing something out as a Forum member.

MB did used to update post #1, I don't know why that changed?

MB gets his info from the staff you have just ripped into! Where else would a non staff member get insider info from.

I think you need to calm down.

He has been posting it for ages, maybe you should have spoken up years ago if it is a problem. And as you say you don't usually bother looking at MB's weekly post so what the hell is the problem. Nark x2!

I don't bother looking at it purely because you have to wade through a long list of 'non changes'. If just the changes are posted, I certainly would read it.

It's not suddenly become a problem and it's not a big issue to me, plus Media boy does a good service to the forums and didn't want to offend. However, Stephen posted what I've been thinking for a while, so I just posted to agree with him.

Why apologise for an opinion Carlos? It is allowed on here (I think), you have never restrained before!

I just think that given MB has a silver star he is clearly an important part of this community so it might be an idea for mods to suggest a change to his weekly post privately rather than just post in the public forum.

I agree that sometimes there isn't much new info on it but a word in the ear might be a better way than a mod posting for all to see.

The first urge should be to attempt to solve issues rather than attack those who try to help.:tu:

Some advice especially for newer members

If anyone doesn't like a thread then stay out of it.If anyone has trouble with a CF member then place them on ignore. If anyone regards a post as problematic or abusive report it.

One other issue that some seem to have forgotten..any gripe with a moderators decision should be by PM rather than in a thread. The latter is a quick way to an infraction. ;)

BBC ALBA will launch tomorrow on Virgin Channel 188 but only in Scottish areas of Virgin Media.

Scottish areas means if you have STV on Channel 103 you will get BBC Alba.

It was first reported here on May 13th. http://www.cableforum.co.uk/board/35...-post1313.html

Aw cool. Niche market I know, but of interest to me and probably to football fans in Scotland as they do coverage of matches from the 1st Division and the odd SPL match as well.

That wouldn't surprise me given what Virgin Media's chief financial officer Eamonn O'Hare said less than a month ago when he said: "[Sky Atlantic] is not a must have and it is not a must not have. It is not something sitting on our immediate priority board." Therefore, given that VM don't see it as a priority then it is unlikely that Sky Atlantic will appear on VM any time soon.

Re: Coming Soon to Virgin TV (2011) Vol. II.

If you trawl the internet you see movie studios and TV program makers trying to maximise their returns on investments. They are doing this by creating their own distribution portals or employing the likes of Google, Apple and Amazon to do for them. Either using a pay per view or selective/target advertisements model. The traditional channels will find it harder to get good quality content and hence attract income to pay for it through adverts and will cease to exist.

So I would like hear is, what VM are actually planning to replace these channels that will inevitably disappear, are they going use Tvio to hook into these portals seamlessly and provide content that way. Is that why on the new channels front it has gone quiet and VM are working on this new model. Will we be forced to upgrade to Tvio to get this new premium content? Will we buy packages i.e. Warner Bothers TV package, Discovery TV Package etc provided through an Amazon portal or even a Sky portal! Will VM just be a media delivery company hence the focus on broadband!

Linear TV will be around for the foreseeable future.

What a fantastic series - would def pay extra for just that series.

Come on VM let's read Sky Atlantic - COMING SOON

I'm Virgin Media customer and I watch Game of Thrones every week and not on Sky Atlantic either.

If you really wanna watch US tv in HD download it/stream it.

Yeah it would be nice if we had Sky Atlantic, but as we don't, I find other means to get the content.

Most of those questions can be answered as any strategy for Virgin will be company confindential

One thing that has been said so far though is that Virgin do plan to migrate all it's customers over to TiVo within the next few years. How that is done hasn't been detailed

I would say though that considering TiVo is designed to record linear TV, Virgin won't be ditching that model anytime soon

No. It means it will appear when VM get it for the right price. Which is fair enough.

I'm guessing somewhere down the line, a diskless Tvio is being made ready for this new delivery model. In the unlikely event you need to record linear TV it will be to cloud based storage, these media portals will have large libraries of content available on demand (archive and current). So there will be no need to record programs, just the ability to create your own schedule. Tvio could perhaps do it automatically based on your viewing habits around the few remaining linear channels (BBC, ITV etc)? VM could provide a several default schedules and insert targeted advertisements to pay for there upkeep. Soaps schedule, documentary schedule so on, interleaved into the basic linear channel schedules. Most of which I sure Tvio can do now, its just when it will be available?

If you think this is all a pipe dream, look at what Samsung/LG TVs can do already!

2 year at most, the way the market is moving, I can see the Primer League, Formula One, NHL, Music events etc having their own portals, in this way they maximise their returns instead of Sky taking a slice! No cross country agreesments, no matter where you live just register your credit card :)

I also find other means which usually involves buying box sets, though the only thing i would watch on atlantic is curb your enthusiasm,i have series 1-7 from play.com for £22.50.

So i am really not that bothered about vm getting it,as if i really wanted to watch anything without buying box sets i would follow your route.:)

I like having 3D capability and will look forward to using it for the 3D tennis on Eurosport.

But it is not a feature to permanently use as HD is. It is an option to use when you want and it is nice now and again to watch a 3D film say.

Having a 3D TV is also useful for 3D games on my PS3, myself and my son have really enjoyed Motorstorm Apocalypse 3D as an example.

They said the same about HD and Blu Ray ;)

Also my 3D TV wasn't too expensive. Besides it's not like you sit watching 3D all the time. It's a nice extra feature to have though.

3D TVs are gettng cheaper and give it a year I would say will be standard in any decent quality TV. Whether you decide to use it is up to you of course, it is just a feature option.

I think you're right on that one. 3D probably won't interest me until it's viewable without glasses, but soon, no one will buy a good quality TV if it isn't 3D, just in case it does take off. And, the TV's with the best PQ will be the upper range models and those will be 3D TVs anyway.

My lounge and bedroom Tv's will last me a few more years yet, but if I was buying now, for the lounge, I'd certainly consider 3D; just in case it takes off and content becomes more available.

Which I don't think can be classed as mainstream yet. When the majority of programmes are broadcast in native HD, in particular on the the 5 terrestrial channels, then I would consider HD to be mainstream.

Blu-ray was hampered by the format war, and not being anywhere near final profile when it came to market (A clear sign you should release a working product and not one that you hope will work).. but except for big movie productions most people are finding that blu-ray players and newer dvd players do a really good job of upscaling dvd's (which of course are cheaper, easier to pirate, easier to swap, work in the bedroom etc).
