What a cock up by VM, all the technology there is and they still cannot get it right.

I can see loads of problems coming up, l was under the impression that 'test' are carried out by engineers and the games on Sunday would have been perfect for it.

Re: sky sports red button

It will probably depend on the type of stb that was used?

Not a total cock up at all. Also testing will have been done way before the service went live. But things can end up being different outside of a testing situation.

Not Technically red button , but could this mean the end for the 7.00 per box premium HD charge meaning 7.00 would be for all boxes if it's true

Or SKY insist Virgin still charge £7.00 per box for their Premium channels making their own £11.00 HD multiroom deal look fantastic.

Not that fantastic

Virgin multiroom including Sky HD is £13.50 per box - so only £2.50 more (I know it's still more but not as big a jump as Sky would probably like)

:) Okay so maybe fantastic was a bit over the top. My original post should have been:

Or SKY insist Virgin still charge £7.00 per box for their Premium channels making their own £11.00 HD multiroom deal look better.

As we all know SKY apparently believe in better:rolleyes:

Personally, I think the £7 per box charge would be dropped on Virgin Media too, if Sky changed their pricing to per account.

Personally I think £7 for 2 hd channels is outrageous, never mind charging it per box. If it were for all 4 sports channels plus sports news channel then that would be better value.

I did not think that you were just able to get the sports in HD, I thought that you had to get both the Sports and Movie's together. I may be wrong again.

I didn't order a TiVo box because I knew from CF that the Ren Button was on Sky Sports on the V+ box

I have just turned on the Cricket Test Match from Lords - listened to the commentator saying what great information was on the Red Button

grabbed a coffee - pressed the Red Button >>>>>>>> NOTHING ?????

No information no stats no nothing

If you don`t subscribe to the movies channels you only get 2 sports hd channels! Were`s the confusion in that? I have no interest in the movies but love sport so I subsribe to the sky sports channels in SD. If I want them in HD I have to pay another £7 and that`s just for 2 channels! A rip off as far as I`m concerned.

yes but we are talking about test cricket !

I don't understand - we were advised in this forum for several months that it was taking time to get the software right

does this mean that after all this software development time all we are going to get is a second TV-stream if we click the red button

I've been a loyal VM customer for about 9 years and before that a Nynex customer

I have waited and waited for the red button cricket stats and even after all the waiting we still don't get what I understood we were to get

I am miserable

I am going finally going to to ring Sky

I kind of know how you feel in the 2nd Test match recently West indies v Pakistan series vm customers did not even get the extra TV Stream(when sky transferred the match to red button) in fact we got no Red Button content! I rang vm and they said there was a technical issue, and after e-mailing Neil Berketts office a nice lady rang me back and gave me another reason to do with sky decidng at the moment the content it supplies to vm! and in my discussion with her she was good enough to say the full red button may even not be available until the fourth quarter sometime.

The explanation she gave rang true but at least i felt i was being levelled with so was happy enough.:)

Re: sky sports red button

I agree with DF's comments yesterday. I think Ofcom said Sky has to offer the Sky Sports 1 and 2 Premium HD on fair and equitable terms or something like that, so if Sky make it per household for their customers, I would expect that ultimately that would also happen on VM. Even if VM had to complain to Ofcom, which I think they did on the HD price per box...

Dunno about Sky Movies HD though. As that isn't a Must Offer set of channels.

Noticed that I get Sky 1 HD on the two boxes despite only paying one £7 premium, just not Sky Sports.

So is there any chance of someone somewhere giving us an itinerary as to when ALL the red button functions WILL arrive on VM...

I know it's a very minor part of the DTV experience BUT us longer standing cable TV customers have been waiting a very, very long time.I think we can be excused for being some what impatient.;)

Nice to know even the moderators are asking about the Sky red button as it has been such a long wait and as l have stated before as a Virgin subscriber to Sky,s premium channels l believe the customer as he pays the same price as Sky,s customers is entitled to have the same functionality.:D;):D

Actually Denphone sky sports is not the same price as sky charge £20.50 for the channels, and on virgin media we pay £22.50 so it is actually more expensive to have sky sports with vm.!

Can you really see Sky charging their customers more :D

I agree with you that VM should get Sky Sports at the rate Sky charges it's own customers though.

Who knows in a month or so when OFCOM rules it may come down in price.

I personally think VM and BT should have pushed OFCOM more for access to all channels and interactive features and pricing to match Sky's own rather than cheaper access to SS 1 and SS 2, I pay £20.50 to Sky and I don't consider that bad value for 5 sports HD channels and red button services however I understand why customers of other platforms feel shortchanged.

I did notice cricket which was supposedly in phase 1 of the roll out in fact it was the first Red Button content VM had from sky sports ,has been sporadic with some matches being shown on Red Button not available to vm sky sports subscribers,on that evidence it does not look too promising, mind you i managed to stream the cricket content from the net sky had on the Red Button.

Not necessarily as was said on the blog all dates subject to change, when i emailed Neil Berketts office over the Red Button issue a nice lady rang me back, and after a conversation i was told phase 2 may even be in quarter 4 ie after september but she may have meant thats when they hope to launch sky sports Red Button on TiVo,so lets wait and see.

Oh and i was also told by her when having a conversation about some cricket red button matches on sky but not available on vm.its up to sky what they supply so do not hold your breath.

Is it possible? it's a shame Tivo customers have to wait so long when we have had to pay a premium to get the box and a fee each month.

No update - yet - on the Sky Sports Red button launching on Tivo.

Why don't Virginmedia as a temporary measure simply set up 3 or 4 channels to stream the extra red button content?

No-one knows. It's not like it's unprecedented, as NTL did it before.

On the information I got says TiVo Virgin Viewers will get the Red Button on Sky Sports at an later date starting from August.

The July 31st date is only for non TiVo viewers to maybe get Phase 2.

Because Sky would sue? The red button is Sky's service, not VM's, and it's Sky that are developing it and Sky who operate it.

Besides, it's 14 channels, each with 9 audio tracks. You wouldn't be able to select the correct audio if they were normal channels.

I spoke to some cowboy on the phone today, he said no update, they have to get permission from Sky to start using the red Button Service and he denied they have already been testing it! has there been a setback or something we don't know about yet?

Why was he a "cowboy"? He's obviously not been given any information about it... The only thing that can be said is VM & TiVo are working on it.

It should be all about launching it on both box's before the football season starts. If they are working on it everyday it should be possible.

If both VM and Sky had the desire then I'm sure we'd already have it by now. Who gains most by dragging their heels ;)

We could be watching extra-time rugby or whatever they call the feature for super league

Re: sky sports red button

i have used the red button twice.
Once a loading box came up but nothing happened and the box became unresponsive. (on v+ box)
The second time, tonight, the new stream loaded but a loading box remained and the box became unresponsive. (on an old telewest pace box)
I hope VM sort these issues out.

Had the same as you jab1990 on a VHD box. Watched the extra-time rugby with the loading box then had to power down to get out of it.
Hopefully they will sort it soon.

Ah so your silence has been bought;)

Ah well in for a penny, Virgin I think your tv service is crap. Give me two years of free VIP service and I'll shut up:angel:

Yes we do need a few more channels and l expect these to come later this year but on the other tv fronts Virgin,s on demand is much superior to Sky's anytime offering and also remember that Virgin's tivo is far superior to Sky's set top box and is likely to pull further ahead in the coming months as it has only scratched the surface so far and by the way do you require some tape to put around your mouth.:D:D:):D:D

I will give you that VM have catchup but there's no way they beat Skys OD, content wise. You keep saying how advanced TIVO is and the search and wishlist features are good however the box still has no access to BBC red button or to keep on topic no Sky sports red button , something a Pace SD Sky box has , just remind me how the epg updates to schedule changes ;-)

Ah your master has summoned you to do his bidding but on your eloquent points you have made firstly on VOD Sky has 500 hours of OD content while Virgin have nearly 5000 hours of OD content so that is a very one sided contest in my mind and on your other point we know that Phase 2 of the red button will arrive on normal boxes at the end of July and arrive on the tivo thereafter and same apply to the BBC red button which will be added to the tivo in due time so l think we both know in due time that Virgins tv service driven by tivo especially will knock spots of Sky's tv service.:D:):D

Thanks for answering , so you admit your statement is currently wrong :D With Added being a popular word , like how you skirted past the schedule change question , basically a fundamental of any good PVR. Hope you don't have to long a wait thought for your sports red button services. I'm only pulling your leg pal
