Well said!!

I've heard some VIP subscribers on here commenting that they had recently received an offer relating to upgrading their VIP package to include TIVO.

I havent received any such offer, but was wondering if those who did, had previously registered their interest in TIVO (as I hadn't)?

As a rule, I generally dont show an interest in anything like this until I know how it will affect my bill.

Perhaps I should have!! :dozey:

AVIP? Almost very impresive package?

What if you have no need for tvio, hd movies and sport or 50mb internet (like me). Why not just reduce the price of the old vip20/30 package by £10, I would upgrade to it (recently downgraded from vip20).

They should make vip xl tv, xl phone, xxl broadband, sky sports hd and movies hd, A choice of any 2 or 3 addional call features, tvio 1tb box and v+ box as second box with no charge for tivo services or hd activation. Also have the option to upgrade the v+ to a tivo 500mb box which would add the £3 tivo charge and maybe have a one off upgrade charge.

Yes but not everyone is willing or able to pay £149. If it is to be part of the package they should replace the box for free.

I'm not saying it's right or wrong, but if they create a new VIP package, given what VIP stands for, surely it would contain a TIVO box?

So it's £149.95 to "activate" a box i'll never own plus £40 installation fees for a guy to unsrew an f-connector and unplug a power lead and hdmi lead, then do the reverse on the new box. Not to mention the "free" upgrade from 20Mb to 30Mb broadband that will actually cost £30 for the "free" superhub. There's the possibility I may move from the property i'm in at the moment so don't want to be stuck in a contract and move to a non cabled area...all in all it looks like i'm stuck with the redundant VIP 20 pack that i signed up for as the "Very Impressive Package" 3 years ago! Rant over...lol!

It's worth looking at the costs of upgrading from VIP20 to VIP50 (even without TIVO). I had VIP20 + a Sky HD premium subscription, so when I upgraded my monthly bill actually went down a couple quid - and I got free install on the 50Mb BB. There's free install on TIVO this month, so that was £149 all in, with the old V+ replacing my standard box upstairs and no increase in monthly cost.

Just received my first bill for TIVo + VIP50, or whatever they are going to call it.

After numerous calls & rants to CS, they finally seem to have got it right
:cleader:

Taking out all the partial charges etc. The ongoing amount is £ 105.60, less an ongoing credit of £3.00 = £ 100.55 + £2.05 itemised billing

A huge thank you to Ben Mc for all your help & guidance in finally getting there.
Well done mate.

I'd like to add my thanks to Ben and the other VM people who post here too.. After having my Tivo/VIP50 upgrade the other week, I got my first bill for £103.55. A phone call to CS, explaining that I've seen VM staff (both here, and on the VM forums) state that VIP50 was £100.55 caused a bit of confusion at first, and while they couldn't find the correct code to apply to my account, they added a recurring £3 credit for the next 12 months (at which point I just call, and hope the code stuff is all sorted out).

So I'm now on VIP50, and paying less than I was on VIP20 (as I was paying extra for the Premium Sky HD channels, and would have been paying an extra £3 per month for TiVo).

Thank you!

Dean

Re: VIP/VIP+ New and Improved VIP Package

My first bill was completely messed up.

I took Tivo as an extra box and It went from £100.55 to £117.05.
The main bundle discount was reduced from £47.94 to £41.44, something which surprised me as surely it should have increased to cover the Tivo cost?

I phoned them up and after a good 20 minutes of a nice helpful lady looking over my account and trying to make head and tail of it (once I'd actually got her to see it wasn't all fine) she said a discount code of £15 a month had been missed off my account which she'd now added so I'd actually be paying £102.05, which is £5 less than I was expecting. I'm waiting for my next bill though as I'm sure something else is going to go wrong with it!

I registered for a free Tivo box,got a email saying Sorry but we will be in touch, since then have not heard anything, have been thinking of upgrade my VIP20 package to the VIP50 but am worried about the so called superhub, everthing works OK at the moment and from what I read could be problems with the superhub

I too have just received my first TiVo bill and been charged the £3 extra.

I've only been a customer for 3 months and I'm already not at all surprised whenever this company cocks something up.

What happens on VIP 50 with TiVo is that the £10 charge for the V+ service is removed (which was factored into the VIP bundle discount) so the discount will actually go down by £7 to leave discount for the TiVo fee

However the new Talk International and Talk Mobile packages cost 25p more each than the older ones do so the discount needs an extra 50p for them

So the net bundle discount change is £6.50.

How's that meant to work if you keep the V+ as an additional box?
I assumed that would be the problem, (the contract that came through the post had the amount I was expecting on it, £73.10) and am assuming removing the V+ charge is what resulted in my V+ being deactivated? Then when they reactivated it that added the charge back?

BenMcr 05-05-2011 16:16

Re: VIP/VIP+ New and Improved VIP Package

Well I'm not sure what you mean as 'an additional box'. Do you mean the included additional box you get with VIP or you added TiVo on as the 3rd box.

If it's TiVo and the V+ as the two boxes, then it makes no difference. Once the £10 V+HD fee is removed and replaced with the £0 one, then the V+ costs the same as the SD or V HD box did, so the additional box cost doesn't change

---------- Post added at 15:16 ---------- Previous post was at 15:10 ----------

Virgin have tried to make the VIP 50 and 100 bundles simpler, so as part of that V+HD boxes no longer have the £10 per month V+ fee, so the costings are the same as if you had any V box (V/V HD or V+HD)

So it becomes as simple as VIP 50 with two boxes of any type is £100.55

VIP 50 with three boxes of any type is £107.05 (£100.55 + £6.50 additional box fee)

If you take TiVo it becomes one of the core boxes

That's not what has happened for me. Bundle discount used to be -£47.94 and is now -£38.44. So a change of £9.50.

In other words they haven't discounted the TiVo fee.

And aren't even anywhere near the discounted call rates (at least on international) as the original plan that cost 25p less

Had my TiVo installed yesterday (still playing) and the new contract says £100.55 per month (£88.30 pm during six month promotion period).

I wasn't aware that the price was going to go down (understand why) and after all the fuss I had getting the price right when I moved to VIP50 (Thanks again BenMcr and others), I was suprised that the new contract come out correct. Well done VM in my case.

Well you have got it in black and white on the contract. So it seems that you have got the same 6 month deal as new customers. I would be jumping for joy (just check with cs and make sure though?).

Re: VIP/VIP+ New and Improved VIP Package

Six month promotion relates to when I moved to VIP50 in March, previously only had 50Mb Internet from VM and rest from Sky.

Yeah I meant to make 3 boxes in total (it would have been clearer if I gave the standard price not the discounted mates rates one!)

My contract came in at £73.10 (£107.05 - £33.95) and then I was billed £83.10, with the V+ HD still showing on the bill as £10 a month.
I phoned up to query it, and after a bit of back and forth of them saying it was right they agreed it was higher than it should be, and said a £15 credit was missed off, so apparently I'll now be billed £68.10 (92.05 without mates rates).

I'm waiting to see what my next bill says, but I'm pretty sure I'll have to get them to correct it again as I can't see that being right.

This thread has gone very quiet since most of us probably went for the £149 free install 1Gb Tivo......however the sweetner all the other XL tv people were getting with the free second box (moving your original V+ to another room) is something us as VIP's are still being charged for in our package.

There was talk of other offers for us that already had multiroom but this talk has dried up a lot since.

What exactly were you expecting from the revamp? With both VIP 50 and VIP 100 you get both the TiVo fee and the Sky Premium HD fee included

Why not use Skype? It is only 1.2p per minute to landlines in the US or computer tocomputer which is free.

I posted in the Telephone area when I came across this so just go to the Fixed Phone Line area of the forum and you'll see all the info there. You are definitely in for a shock (I'm Canadian and make a lot of international calls), but I was able to change to a different calling plan than the default one and now have cheaper calls than ever before, and they refunded the difference between the original plan and the expensive one as I had not been informed of it (or I'd have chosen one of the other plans).

sky premiums hd was already included last year, and they have added £3 value to the package lets all have a party

So you've had TiVo and Sky Premium HD £10 knocked off.. what are you expecting?

That was the thread I started and linked to in my post above.

I make a lot of international calls to Canada and US being from Canada myself and went for the 10 plan (considered the 5). With the included free minutes both of those are considerably cheaper than the original so actually still make it a very good value plan.

Yes the second box is discounted but it isn't free like some people got who upgraded to tivo
and got the original box moved to another room with no monthly charge for it.

Im still paying £6.50 extra a month for my second box

1 Additional V Box 09 May - 08 June £15.00
TiVo Monthly Fee 09 May - 08 June £3.00
Add Set Box(es) Discount 09 May - 08 June-£8.50

Why should dome tivo users get 2nd box free and other customers have to pay.

I'm on VIP50 and the exact same charge is on my bill (and is why I brought this topic up again) so as I see it we are paying £6.50 for that second box and like I say others got the second box for free when taking Tivo.

Out of interest what is the price difference of VIP50 to VIP100?
If it's not that much more then make the VIP a true VIP (as it was originally) and make it 100 as standard.

BenJSmyth 20-05-2011 12:08

Re: VIP/VIP+ New and Improved VIP Package

If you are on VIP50 you should be able to have a combination of any two STBs including two Tivo's if you want. The monthly cost should be £100.55. Is this what you pay every month? The reason I ask is that they might be adding extra discount to cover that £6.50.

If not, phone VM and query it.

It's not free as in doesn't show on the bill for those TiVo upgrades, it's discounted to make it cost nothing - same as it is in VIP.

So they'll see a £6.50 credit on the bill, which is already factored into the VIP bundle discount

Same price difference as between 50Mbit and 100Mbit for everyone - £10

Ah i see now.So you are saying that there is a £6.50 credit for the second box bundled in with
Ing With TiVo Bundle Saving 09 May - 08 June -£41.44

I do pay £100.55.

The billing is very confusing and should show actually what the discounts have been allocated to.

Yes. VIP includes a second STB. Always has done

Because of the level of discount VIP bundle customer already get - which included the free STB, they are not eligible for the offer.

Remember VIP 50 and 100 customers already get the TiVO fee and Sky HD included along with the second STB

Well, my new bill is in, and as I expected it's not right (but this time in my favour!)

I have 3 STBs, Tivo, V+ and V HD, and here's my advance charges:

Code:

Telephone Line Rental                12 June - 11 July        £12.99
Talk International 2                12 June - 11 July        £2.00
Talk Mobile 2                        12 June - 11 July        £2.00

Call Displ                        12 June - 11 July        £2.05
T V Size: X L                        12 June - 11 July        £26.00
2 Additional V Box                12 June - 11 July        £30.00
V+ HD Monthly Fee                12 June - 11 July        £10.00
TiVo Monthly Fee                12 June - 11 July        £3.00
Add Set Box(es) Discount        12 June - 11 July        -£17.00
Extra Set Top Box Discount        12 June - 11 July        -£15.00
XXL 50Mb Broadband                12 June - 11 July        £45.00

Which is £5 cheaper than what it should be.

AFAIK they should have just taken off the V+ monthly fee, but instead for some reason they've added another STB discount of £15 instead.

I would have thought this is a billing error as presumeably there should be either a VIP bundle saving or a Mates Rates saving, not both.

The Mates Rates is a fixed saving is on top of the standard bundle price of XL Plus or above, so you have to have both for it to work

What is wrong is the double additional box discount.

Mates rates is a wonderful thing.

Can I just add one thing before going back to topic about mates rates? When I worked for O2 they had staff packages and also Family and Friends packs as well. So this is just not limited to one company as they all are at it?

Also I'am unable to begrudge anyone who takes up the pack that is offered to them?

It's no longer promoted

Considering VIP 30 with TiVo and Sky HD was more expensive than VIP 50....

---------- Post added at 16:00 ---------- Previous post was at 15:58 ----------

The sold VIP bundle is always supposed to be the top of everything. It was only due to the staggered rollout of 50Mbit that two different ones ran along side each other.

Staggered rollout of 100Mbit will end up doing the same

So what is the monthly cost if I upgrade from VIP20 to VIP50 (+Tivo) - website says £108.54 plus tivo activation fee (£149?) ? Is this right as this thread seems to indicate £105.54 plus the activation fee?

Also is it right that my current V+ box could be moved to replace the current V box so would end up with Tivo and V+ ?

The price of VIP50 is £100.55, then you would have to pay the price for the Tivo which is £149.95 or£49.95.
If you went for the tivo you would be able to keep the V+ as well as I have a tivo and a V+ on VIP50.
Hope this helps you

Ps you don't have to pay the £3 pm tivo charge on VIP50 so the price is £100.55.

Time sort out our VIP package. Currently paying £108.54 for 2 x V+ STB's, with 20MB connection (Started off with VIP20 package)

I would like to upgrade to VIP (with 50mb) but downgrade one of the V+ to a VHD.

What would the costs be to downgrade one V+ to VHD and upgrade internet to the 50mb connection ?.

Had a look on VM site but no idea where the costs are to change package.

TIA

Scott
