Me mate on Telewest got a upgrade a couple of weeks ago and his is approx 8MB [ although TW also say its 10MB service] Makes getting games off of Fileplanet faster but how many times are you going to use those speeds.

A lot of people will abuse it for a while im sure, but the novelty will soon wear off.

BTW. Looks like "the Bloke in the Pub" was almost right when he said October speed update. ;)
What month are we now, disbelievers? :D

Trials month ;) doesn't really count as 'speed update' month. Products are certainly not going to be commercially available this month, so his guesses based on the grapevine don't work this time :)

Considering ntl themselves didn't know until recently the dates for trialling and releasing bloke in pub must have had a few when he gave out dates for things that were still on the drawing board :)

Re: ntl Confirms 10Mb Broadband Speed Increase

All very odd cause after reading the latest posts in this forum i phoned NTL customer support this morning and they told me

"NO ONE has 10mb service, it is going to be December before ANY ONE gets it".

I explained to him that people in this forum are saying they have it an he simply and clearly said

"this is UNTRUE"

He then went on to tell me

"NTHELL is not run by ntl an there for what u read here is rubbish"

i pointed out to him that i was aware that the forum is not run by ntl but explained that some NTL staff/engineers use it to which he replied

"those people wouldnt know as ntl has not confirmed anything to anyone at this time".

Now either this particular Ntl employee is not being told whats happening or he is just plain lying to people. lol Not like them to do that.

But 1 thing did become very clear during this phone call an that is that ntl customer service dont give a **** about paying customers inquiries.
Ntl should take a tip from the bt advert "its good to talk" an maybe retrain some of there staff as in the case of this person he lacked the basic ability to be civil. But he will be pleased to know that a complaint was logged against him shortly afterwards not that i expect ntl to take any notice.

So once again in the words of NTL .....
"NO ONE HAS THE 10mb SERVICE AN WONT UNTILL DECEMBER"

Ill leave it to you to work out whos the liar.;)

At least the 3Mb is working good finally.

I know it's already been asked a couple of times, but could those members who are downloading at 8Mbps post their downstream & upstream data rates from the "Operation Configuration" page of the cable config web site.

it allows you to check your cable modem config file - what we need is people who are getting 8meg or above to go in and access this screen then select the 'operation configuration' screen from it - then check the speed values on it and screen dump it and post here.

Hi Wasted.d,

Welcome to the world of ntl, the complete communications company..who can't communicate to their own front-line personnel.

It's a well known fact that the ground staff at ntl are told very little of developments. I know this first hand from when I used to work in tech.

This is exactly what CM Tech said to me on the day the 3mb upgrades went live. They weren't told what was going on at all.
There really is no point in calling ntl to find out when things are going to go live etc. Your best bet is to stick around here.

Swansea is the last place on earth to know anything :) its best to ring sales, at the time of the last free upgrade I rang CMT and was told its not available yet, I rang sales and they said they could upgrade me now "If I want" :)

Think about it. If you were using something that you might not be allowed to would you post something that might get you identified. Not that i am saying anyone here would do that. ;)

routers shouldent be a problem but the older modems will have the data in a different place.

Re: ntl Confirms 10Mb Broadband Speed Increase

Yeah, I've managed to get the config file for it once before, but it involved disconnecting the routers, putting the modem cable directly into the back of the pc and configuring the DNS to a certain address or something - it was a complete nightmare to get it back working afterwards.

If there is an easy way, I'll do it.

Didn't NTL say they will not notify customers of the upgrades it's just a case of them hitting the switch then the customer doing a speed test to find out their speeds.

That might be a bit optimistic - I wouldn't be too sure that they've finished the trials of it yet. But having said that, it's anytime soon for those on 3Mbps. :) :welcome:

Not even mentioning the fact that NTL themselves announced that those of us on 3Mb will be upgraded first, can you imagine the uproar that would ensue if those of us paying £38 p/month were upgraded after those customers paying less?

My ntl installer just sneezed, that means that everyone at ntl are going to get a cold in the next few days.

C'mon people, if you have been keeping an eye on the service status page over a long period as I have (I remember & prefer the previous site design) you'd be aware that the service message in question is posted up practically every month, I've seen it mentioning nationwide rebalancing a few times now.

Besides, the update mentions UBR upgrades & rebalancing, nothing more, nothing less.

According to the statement by Ntl, you won't be upgraded until January, at the earliest. The end of this year is a date quoted for 3mb users. With 2mb and 1mb users being upgraded after that.

But that just plain sucks, sod the rest upgrade the highest paying...hmmm me ponders moving ISP.

I for one will upgrade my package soon as 10mb is available... nevermind paying the extra i want 10mb... emm sounds lush :)

Re: ntl Confirms 10Mb Broadband Speed Increase

Sounds lush yes but I fail to see ntl's problem with upgrading everyone, if it is down to there servers, then I wonder seriously about the quality of there systems, if they are not upto the job don't offer the service.

Be like a hospital opening a new ward with no beds in it. POINTLESS.

Nope, 3mb customers get the upgrade 1st. Then others following next year.

Spent a 'little' time on the phone asking about the upgrade and got a result.

According CS my 3mb bb in Harrogate will 10mb end Nov/early Dec............................................... ..........

Re: ntl Confirms 10Mb Broadband Speed Increase

To be honest it sounds very bad business practise to ignore the rest of the users for the highest paying ones, be like a car dealership giving the GLX car buyer a free meal and making you wait in a cue in rain for a hotdog from dirty blogs caravan. Just because you own the LX.

Its to do with load Since fewer people are on the 3mb its easier to upgrade them to test the capacity and how the network performs before letting the hoards on.

How far in though? they upgrade the 3mb users, find aload of "mythical" techincal problems ( rake it in with people upgrading so hence my next point) make the 2mb and 1mb users tempted to this 10mb by making us wait well into Febuary I bet, and once people moving to the 10mb service at £37.99 is slowing then finally upgrade us.

Thanks NTL over 3years service and your going downhill IMHO quicker then BT.

To test it? so they are not sure about there own systems? if so why even talk about offering the service?

And hoards on? so let the rich payers play with the new toys then the riff raff??

Anyone know a ISP provider for Manchester which values its customers on all tariffs?

So, in your experience of rolling out 10 meg to 1.5 million users, what do you advise ntl do? How do you suggest they orchestrate the rollout?

Area by area start small in more outstreached sections, localise the release and slowing put the stress on the systems, this way you dont have people on different tiers getting annoyed as everyone in there segement is done at once.

But then those who are not in the 'outstretched' sections would get as annoyed as you seem to be by not getting upgraded at the same time as those in the outstreached sections...

Re: ntl Confirms 10Mb Broadband Speed Increase

So if they give 10meg to the 3meg users, does this mean i can expect to pay 1/5 of what they pay for my 2meg connection.
or do i change providers

And those who pay there bills and see's there neighbours get updated and they dont and live in same street get more annoyed.

So move your rolling eyes away matey.

What does anyone think about Markys suggestion? when users get 10mb for £37.99 and we are paying £24.99 that we lower how much we pay?

I know I aint paying £24.99 when you lot on 3mb have 10mb. And ntl can come and kiss my hairy behind aswell.
