Pity that they did not setup nationwide before saying anything & then "switch on"

That wouldn't make business sense. The whole point of this was to attract new customers and keep existing ones. A lot of people are on Virgin because of the available speeds - you just can't get higher than about 20MBit on even a good ADSL line, but now that FTTC is rolling out there's far less incentive to sticking with Virgin as those kind of speeds are readily available (where FTTC is available, that is). Oh but wait, your speed is being DOUBLED? Well maybe just stick around for a bit, it saves the hassle of switching.

Exactly that, it was announced way before they could provide it to even a fraction of their customers, simply as a way of retaining customers.

As someone else said recently, Virgin media is a marketing led company. Without all its headline grabbing announcements, misleading advertising (which get banned well after they have already done their job) and tons of leaflets through the door a year, Virgin would be a lot less well off.

Sorry not sure that whatever the cause "Non delivery " is a great business plan. So I get we are doubling your BB at no extra cost - here is a price rise & no speed increase yet. Next year-We will double you speed sometime next year & have an other price increase, but doubling is "coming soon" ( 2010-2112 & it aint here yet!! ). As it happens I do not care about the extra speed. Just as well or I would have taken up infinity along time ago. When was that up & RUNNING? O` yes around the first notice from Virgin. Strange aint it

MMM so is it just VM who place misleading adverts and before you start I agree they do - but so do others

Double speed is also a bit optimistic, our 10 service is averaging 12 rather than the up to 20 - it nearly reached 14 at one time :-)

Either you have a fault, it's wireless, or your area is congested.

It will be interesting to see what I get with the new super hub as I decided to go for the 60 option paid for by paying the rental in advance. I currently have an old NTL 250 modem

As has already been discussed, no one has fallen foul of the Advertising Standards Agency on the same scale as Virgin Media.....25 adverts in 18 months banned.

You can throw up the occasional event of other isp's getting their wrist slapped in desperation if you wish, and I will remind you of how many Virgin have had banned in the last 2 years.

Keep blindly defending, keep getting laughed at some more.

Don't see anyone laughing. YOU are the one on a cable forum spouting how Virgin are crap and Sky are wonderful. [Mod edit - inappropriate comment removed]

BTY - these amongst other web sites don't seem to share your opinion, there are similar sites about VM - my point is not everything is wonderful in Skys backyard neither

Most of my time on this forum has been as a Virgin customer, so stick that in your pipe and smoke it ;)

You have tried to quantify Virgins massive failure with the advertising standards agency with a few that other isp's have had and when shown the scale VM have done it doesnt compare in any way, have them moved the goal posts to attack sky in another area.

I can lend you a dictionary so you can look the word hypocrite up. People in glass houses...

If you calmed down and read my posts properly you would see the following comment i made

"MMM so is it just VM who place misleading adverts and before you start I agree they do" - that is me agreeing that VM's adverts are misleading

On a later post I mention the fact that their are I hate Sky forums - I also go on to say their are similar forums about Virgin

All I am doing is trying to point out that all providers have their issues, however you are acting like the typical playground bully who has to resort to name calling when they can't get their own way.

Yes you are now a Sky customer and your world is a better place, however just as many people have issues with Sky as they do with VM, which you don't seem to be able to see.

I do wish that Sky customers would stop complaining about a company that does not supply them. Any one is free to post what they like, but why would you want to bother  . Is something missing in your life

Perhaps they are missing Tivo, decent broadband speeds and a fantastic cable forum community ;)

Re: Virgin Media to Double Broadband Speed

Some people are happy with one supplier, some people are happy with another; some people are unhappy with one supplier, some people are unhappy with another.

Some people take services from more than one supplier, and are happy/unhappy with those services.

I understand that people point out issues they/others have had with a service, but when it descends into constant moaning/complaining/my service is better than your service/my user-case is equal to all user-cases, and if you agree/disagree, you must be a fanboi/troll, it just seems that people seem to enjoy complaining/picking arguments.

ymmv
