Before the V+ was around reminders were the only way to ensure you didn't miss a programme. Now we have multiple tuners and a large hard drive they really aren't needed. Also if its a show or event that you really want to see you shouldn't be forgetting about it just before it starts ;)

If you desperately need a reminder that the news is on at 6 then there is something wrong :P its on that time everyday lol. However you could always set an alarm or calender reminder on your mobile phone?

No doubt if there is enough people whinging about them VM and TiVo may consider adding them. TiVo doesn't have them so they would need to be added as a new feature.
