You don't need 100 to make the idea impracticable.

I didn't say it did, although having said that, would there be a problem moving "hidden" channels onto another empty range such as 650 to 699?

Either would be possible, but not having leading zeroes means slower channel changes as the software has to wait to see if you are going to enter more digits.
Either would be possible, but would it be possible with existing firmware?

Well said,BenMcr are we any nearer seeing some more streaming channels on iPads and more mrs channels between tivos?

I almost exclusively watch HD channels. My get around is to go into guide press blue button and select HD, I get all the HD channels to browse then.

I set my HD channels as my favourites and view only theses on the TV guide on the iPad app, very easy way of quick scanning of what's on!

They are defined as AC-3 audio with more than 2 channels. So it looks promising, but you'll have to wait and see what ITV actually broadcast.

Defined where? What should we expect?

Here is a big question for everyone including Media Boy.

Can the VM system take on MORE channels than the numbers on the present EPG.

The point being that nobody is worrying about it, except apparently Virgin themselves. All that has happened here is somebody has said they'd like the hd channels to start from 1, a couple of us have considered this a good suggestion, and Spiderplant has explained why it can't happen. I couldn't give a toss what capacity you think you post in (although I'd suggest you probably can't have it both ways), but you simply don't get to put words in my mouth. Nobody was making this a big deal until you came along and asked why it was being made into a big deal!

I've no doubt that as per usual you'll require the last word, but I'll no longer be able to see it.

That would be possible. In fact the Olympic channels were parked in that range so the 550s could be reused for the Paralympics.

Either scheme would need an update.

Defined in the broadcast.

The way it is set up potentially allows them to broadcast 5.1. We'll all have to wait and see what is actually broadcast.

Yes, that makes sense.

So, in other words, the codec used by the audio stream is defined as AC-3 (Dolby Digital) 5.1 ?

Nothing here. Next EPG update is probably midday, so they might appear then. Won't be able to check until this evening.
