and to get the sky HD channels they never would have got them without selling the channels or red button

Correct, that was part of the deal. Suppose the question is, was it the right decision?

Its amazing how all these things should only apply to Sky , BT is both a content provider and platform as is Liberty Global , there are many more examples around the world Comcast , DirecTV , CanalSat , Rogers communications the list goes on so why should only Sky be hit with this stipulation. Only a couple of years ago VM was both a platform and content provider funny nobody had a problem with that.

"Oyez, Oyez, Oyez!" l proclaim the great one and only Muppetman defends his beloved Sky again.;):D

So what would you all do if god forbid VM failed to get a deal with BT and they ended up not carrying the BT sports channel (i have no idea if they have or have not got a deal), would you leave VM and move to sky or BT ???

I'd keep calm and carry on. Gave up with football some years ago and now rarely even look at the results. It's an easy change to make in life, weekends are more enjoyable and much less stressful. We've a few friends who MUST watch football (doesn't matter who's playing) or sport of any desription if there's no football on, and apart from one guy who's wife is also sport mad, they all have pretty fed up wives!! There's much more to life than football!!

Cheers

That's a massive misrepresentation. The Flextech business was a core part of the Virgin Media launch strategy - do you not remember the fanfare surrounding Virgin 1?

It was in the years down the line that Virgin Media Television (as the business had been renamed) was lined up for sale; it would appear as a method of getting Sky to 'give up the goods'. It was a massive gamble, as it meant essentially sacrificing their bargaining chip for future carriage agreements.

It was prudent therefore that VM secured carriage of the channels for an extended period. However, whoever negotiated this deal obviously neglected to consider channels which Sky may launch in the future. As it stands, there would be nothing to stop Sky launching "Sky 1a", siphoning off all the content from Sky 1 to it, and thereby depriving VM viewers of that content. The Sky Atlantic situation could and should have been prevented.

Indeed i am a rugby fan and don't watch football, however for those that are football fans i can see this as being a big issue for them at this time.

Yes that's what the earlier poster said and I agree, however I was disagreeing with the post that they sold them as they needed the money, that wasn't the core reason.

If Virgin don't get a deal with BT then l will just watch the football on Sky Sports with Virgin but somehow l cannot see the scenario of BT Sports not arriving on Virgin in my humble honest opinion.

I got a feeling that a deal with BT Sport is going to be announced in late July

I tend to watch football for the game itself, not others opinions

Next they will start playing "now" music during the game..maybe some cartoon graphics real time during game...that should keep the kids entertained :)
