The mile contest developed into a sprint with two furlongs to run and Rizeena, the only previous Group One winner in the field, came through the pack to strike the front under James Doyle, but Chriselliam came from even further back and was ultimately well on top as she passed the post a length to the good in the hands of Richard Hughes.

After initially travelling well into the dip, Berkshire did not show the explosive acceleration that was evident at Ascot and Somewhat made him pull out all the stops, despite finishing behind him at the Royal meeting. Jim Crowley managed to galvanise Berkshire to win by a neck, with the rank outsider Sir Jack Layden running a massive race in a close-up third.
