it's the consistency thing again.. some refs let that happen and others make you take it again.. surely the ref should at lest take a proper look round and size up the play first though ?

Why should they though? For a free kick all thats required is that the ball is in the correct spot and stationary. Sometimes the ref will call a quick free kick back - if the player hasn't asked if he can take it quickly, or the ref is sorting something else out. You also take a gamble by taking it quickly, for example if the ball had hit Gudjonsson who was only a few yards away then Henry would not have been allowed to retake the kick.

What if the ball is at the other end and the keeper decides to clean his boots, the other team gets a break-away and scores, should the goal be disallowed because the keeper wasn't ready? If you're not ready for a free kick to be taken then thats your fault.

They should do something about players standing near the ball to prevent free kicks being taken. If a player does this then the ref ought to move the ball forward ten yards and or book the player.

With all Premiership matches being televised now there ought to be a fifth official in radio contact with the ref who is watching the TV monitors and advising the ref on things he or the linesmen can't see. This could be particularly useful in decisions which could result in a card being shown.

Just a pity that it was a blatant dive from Pires in the first place.:td:

well we had the chance to close the gap just like we could have built on the win against arsenal when we played pompey and threw it away..

a football match lasts for 90 mins and we were never in the second half.. showed our lack of depth in our squad as well.. on the bench we had bellion, o'shea, fortune and fletcher none of home are match winners that you can bring on..

the goal from them was coming right from the start of the second half and none of the team ever got going.. still if rooney had squared the ball instead of shooting just after they had scored then scholes and giggs were queing up for a tap in

Fantastic goal, Carroll had no chance.

we should have had several more goals in the first half and never really came out for the second.. the goal had been coming ever since half time and we never got going in the second half.. with a rubbish bench like that we had little chance for changing things either

well once again the FA have shown their consistance and how they aren't biased against Man U. if your name is Nistelrooy and you make a bad tackle you get banned for three games.

if you are called Robbie Savage and you stick your finger in another players eye nothing happens at all.

Champions League draw

Real Madrid v Juventus

FC Porto v Inter Milan

Barcelona v Chelsea

Werder Bremen v Lyon

Liverpool v Bayer Leverkusen

PSV Eindhoven v Monaco

Manchester United v AC Milan

Bayern Munich v Arsenal

Some cracking ties there.

Remind me where he started his career of violence?

Bayern - tough, but could have been worse. Good to see Man Utd and Chelsea getting nice, easy draws - Chelski - Barca should be cracking.

Hahah yeah the only reason hes violent is cause he started his career at Man utd....

You have to admit its stange that Wenger gets fined £15,000 for making a comment about another player and Savage gets let off after sticking his finger in another players eye.

maybe Fergie should call Pires a diver.. create video evidence on it then get his players to throw Pizza at Wenger and see what happens to Man U

I don't call AC Milan an easy draw.
