I'm opting for the Asus P5W DH Deluxe WIFI (as soon as they start shipping them with the BIOS update to support Core 2)

I have just got and built a system on one of these boards, its a monster of a board and absolutely fantastic.
I've got a 930 in it for now until core 2 duo arrives, mainly because of the potential bios issue, that and stocks of boards / ram / graphics cards etc are all going to take a hit next week when people flock to move to conroe so it means i've got a working system now and just need to change the cpu at my leisure when they are readily available.

The 930 is a 3GHz chip, i've already overclocked it to 4GHz on air yesterday (the hottest day around) and its 100% stable at that speed. 4.2GHz is abit flakey after long use and 4.5GHz it'll post but not really boot without alot of extra voltage so i'll need more cooling (already using a zalman 9500)

i was just looking for some info regarding the sse4
and how apparently Intel has only officially published the opcodes, not what the instructions actually do, and came across this 'Buyers Guide To Conroe (Core 2 Duo)--NEW ... '.

some of you might like to have a read of it,

That link says the gigabyte DS6 is compatable but the DS4 isnt yet overclockers are selling the DS4 and the DS3 as compatable

If you want an 805... You want to hurry. Apparently, Intel are nixing them by the end of the year....

Buying one tomorrow, ditched the e6400 build... was going to cost £200 more than i wanted to spend.

I'm desperate to build this new machine, but my CC, bank account and salary keep telling me not to... I might have to try grab some bits now, some later... Reuse case & PSU and stuff as much as I can.

I am sick of resorting to work every night when I can be BF2-ing.

I would keep a close eye on the prices and stock levels of this cpu and buy at the right time before they dry up. These cpus have been well advertised now and seeing as there flawed cpus and the conroes are now out I can see these cpus phased out before the end of the 90nm process production. That of course does not mean there wont be a 60nm slightly faulty cpu that can replace the 805 but who knows

the 805 is a flawed CPU?

yeah it wont run at 200 mhz fsb(stock settings / cooling) thats why the fsb is set low by default with the higher multiplier

Same here. Really want to purchase but can't afford it right now. I might get the Mobo and CPU just now then next month get the memory. Everything else I can reuse from my existing PC. Also a Sata HDD would be better than my IDE.

Just ordered a PD805, Gigabyte S3 board, 1 Gb RAM, x1600xt GFX, nice shiny case, thermaltake real power 450w PSU... etc :)

Should be here midweek.

can you not do a temp job and use only one ide hdd and one optical on the same ide cable? if it's possible

Ok, it arrived yesterday, been stability testing overnight... the vDroop on this board is unreal, BIOS set to 1.45v vCore, yet at full load only hits 1.394v... That's why i found the pencil mod ;) - MOD HERE (anyone know where i can get conductive ink form?)

Now sitting comfortably at 3.66ghz with an Arctic Cooling Freezer Pro 7. No throttling (and it's turned off in the BIOS anyway) the value RAM is holding it's own at 544ish mhz (rated at only 533) and so far no problems. The x1600xt is an amazing card too. 58k points in Aquamark3 so far.

More benchies to follow, etc.
