I think we need to have a dedicated England team not consisting of players from the leagues but players found by having open trials, who can be trained to play as a team to a well thought out plan.
England played as a group of individuals. Iceland played as a team to a good plan and won. They were the better team and did not spend their time side passing and back passing as England did. We need to play like Brazil in attack and Germany in defence We also need to build up players with better basic skills who like Best and Pele could dribble through a defence and put the ball in the net. We have a few years to do that but we need to start now to avoid another embarrassing shambles like we saw last night. |
