Re: Scores die in Israeli air strikes

Ground troops will be going in soon and you know as well as i do SMG they were never going to send ground troops straight in they will follow the usual procedure of destroying C&C installations, comms centres of any type and hamas infrastructure before sending in the troops that is what this is as far as i am concerned phase 1. There are sadly going to be many more deaths before this current phase of stupidity is done with and plenty of news to watch it all on.

Personally i am tired of seeing this and won't be watching it on the news or in any form of the media i have seen this sort of thing first hand and have no desire to watch it happening. There is no solution to this right now because as has been said neither side want a solution at this time so it will contnue to go round in the stupid cycle that it does.

Bash the israeli's if you wish bash hamas end of the day makes no difference and sure as hell isn't going to stop a damn thing so pointless both sides have blame in this as they always have and always will until that fine day comes when there is a solution on the table all sides can live with i won't hold my breath though.

You know we had the IRA planting bombs and they killed a lot more people in one hit than any Hamas rocket has ever done, did we bomb areas of the Republic where we thought/knew they were hiding?

The Israeli response has been totally over the top and unjustified. It will also not solve anything apart from killing 100s of innocent people, it will not bring peace into the region. That as well as their determination not to let in aid in sufficient quanities, is only going to contribute to the loss of more life. The timing of this campaign and the closeness of the elections adds another unpleasant dimension to the whole thing.

That feeling of bitterness will sow a lot of seeds for much trouble to come in future years.

Your right, the one thing this will not make is their citizens safer, some are already dead as a result in the break down of cease fire, I doubt they'll be the last sadly.

Let us not forget that the Israelis were killing children in palestine long before Hamar were elected in 'power'. Many fathers have had their sons shot down by bullets for throwing stones at Israeli soldiers. Homes were being destroyed by israeli tanks long before hamas won the election.

Another good point, wasn't it Chris Hedges of the NY Times who reported that Israeli soldiers routinely murder Palestinian children for sport

There will never be a solution to this problem until the collective countries across the globe actually find the political will to do so.At the moment there doesn't seem to be any urgent reason for them not to just leave things as they are especially as their own problems at home are so much more important.
Most of the middle east is reasonably peaceful and and it doesn't look like anyone else is going to join in so oil resources will be uninterrupted in the region. Why bother except to tut,tut and apparently hand wring in public about the death toll?

Besides which I don't think they know how to bring it to an end without direct military intervention..

There are many calls for Israel to ceasefire but strangely no-one is calling for Hamas to cease firing rockets into Israel.

Surely this is a case for a UN peace-keeping force being put into Gaza to find the terrorists. In that way Israel will have no need to mount air attacks or mount a ground invasion.

In doing so, the UN force can provide independent information as to what is being done in the region and hopefully we can find the truth in all this.

I think you'd find that people are calling on both sides to cease fire.

And here's hoping these calls, from all sides, are successful - nobody wins if it keeps on going the way it is; let's hope the two-state solution is accepted and implemented.

Happy new year, everyone.

Not likely from what I just heard on the latest update of the news on the TV.

Yep, I reckon they will now be in their harbour areas preparing. Its certainly the only way forward for Israel, apart from diplomacy of course. I think the only thing that will stop them is Obama. Possibly he may put a bit of pressure on. I certainly dont think the UN will have the slightest effect, no one else takes any notice nowadays, so why should Israel.

On a rather unrelated point, the new U.S. Predator (The Global hawk) has over 250 missions painted on its side, armed with AMRAAMS, it flies at 60,000 ft from Edwards Air force base to Iraq, & back. It can stay airborne for 2 days. Its sister (Photo Reckon) can gather Intel & direct weapons fire. The pilots sit in a cabin, at Edwards AFB, & change shifts.

It will probably all go quiet again once Hamas has run out of rockets and sues for a ceasefire .... which will last until it gets more....

Oh crumbs, can you imagine that?

Cdr. Chuck Rogers loses contact with his drone, cruising high in the skies over Helmand ...

Rogers: Aah, crap, pass me that phone (dials)
CSR: Good morning, my name is Brian, what's the problem with your predator today:
Rogers: I've lost contact. I think it may have crashed.
CSR: OK sir, now let's see if we can sort that out for you. Could you switch your terminal off at the wall, wait at least 30 seconds and then turn it back on again please?
Rogers: No, not that sort of crashed. Can we drop the script please?
CSR: I'm sorry sir, we have to perform these checks first. Did you see Eastenders last night? Cor blimey, those Londoners, eh?
