Superb, ALWAYS maxes out my 3mb NTL connection/ around 21 days in binary newsgroups, varies though/ Used to be incredibly good, seems to have tailed off a bit recently (still advertised as 97%+ and I can believe that TBH) but nothing a par or 2 can't fix :) Unlimited downloads too, superb support and communications (NTL could learn alot here) and only $39.99 (£21) every 3 months, highly recommended |

I signed up for another month with newshosting because I did a search on the net for connection speeds to usenetserver and the info I found reported that the max connection was 2mb. By your account it isn't so I might give them a try next month, however, newshosting is very good. |
DL from NTL newservers
a few of my mates use these servers to download stuff such as mp3,movie,etc but im a bit weary as to why ntl lets them do it as its against piracy and all and if i do it will i get caught for dl

Re: DL from NTL newservers
grey area - NTL provide the newsgroups on a 'common carrier' basis. That means it is not illegal to download messages - but, you are subsequently liable for what you do with the download. If it is copyright, or illegal for other reasons, then you can be prosecuted for storing or distributing it, but not by NTL.

I wonder whether it is just me or ...

ntl news server - broken
I've found at least one newsgroup isn't refreshing properly. New to these forums I can't tell if this is a known problem.
I've raised this twice with ntl who have said they've escalated it - and that it would be fixed within 24 hours. No surprise given their track record that it hasn't been fixed. I'm using Outlook express and news.cable.ntlworld.com. I know the group in question (rec.sport.cricket) is busy, but according to my client, there hasn't been a post since February 2005. There have been thousands since then if I use another ISP or groups.google.com. Presumably there's nothing I can do at my end. Anybody have any ideas on how to fix this? |
Re: ntl news server - broken
hi and :welcome: to the site , nowt new here , i suspect you will just have to wait and see if ntl sort it , mind you it might be something one of the mods on here might be interested in :)

How did that ntl person know it would take 24 hours  Blag to get rid on customer, wishful thinking or ill informed of procedures and escalation path to get this kind of fault fixed. Who knows  |
Re: [merged] binary newsgroups on NTL
:redcard: well its looking like the servers not updating new items again, back like it was in March, hopefully it wont take weeks to sort this error out again.
I know it looks like I'm new here, but Ive followed the site for ages just never joined,so heya all great site better late than never I guess,I've really loved ntl for the 4+ years ive been with 'em,but now with the caps the newserver being unreliable and my kids growing out of watching cable kids channels I'm thinking of ditching NTL for good.Anyone know a uk isp that offers a good free newserver ? |
Re: [merged] binary newsgroups on NTL
Well i know of people who have used clara.net and eclipse.net which have them...i cant vouch for how good their groups are, but the prices are ridiculous.
You might aswell get a dedicated news provider, that + cable would be much more cost effective...i can recommend http://www.newsgroupdirect.com/. Full speeds on 3mb. |
Re: [merged] binary newsgroups on NTL
http://www.newshosting.com/ is very good and for their unlimited service it will cost £8 a month.
