£900m, already floating around £600m and I highly doubt that's solid lump cash either given he owns Fulham and not Liverpool or Manchester City. Which then screams installments or an investment whip round. The FA and media might spin this as success but its pure bollocks. £130m of it was funded by the tax payer. The belief all of it would be reinvested wisely is also a crock.

We nearly went too far by giving him a point. These late Sunday afternoon matches at OT have all been poor recently. Sanchez was invisible, Pogba dire apart from a simple tap in goal, Lingard and Herrera buzzing around to little effect. It was nice to see the warm applause for Arsene, impressed by a couple of their youngsters as well.

Good news is I have secured my ticket for the FA Cup final.

Roma can score but Liverpool will score again. There's no defence in Europe that can keep Liverpool out right now.

Roma have to score 3 and throw everything at Liverpool without conceding themselves against the side that's the top scoring team in the champions league.

---------- Post added at 20:12 ---------- Previous post was at 20:02 ----------

Again. Brutal. Roma had conceded the least amount of goals at home iirc. Until Liverpool.

Cough....they only scored once in two games v United. ;)

Classic own goal from Milner.:D

As long as Liverpool can keep their first 11/12 fit they will seriously push RM, but a look at the Liverpool bench in recent weeks does not inspire confidence.
There isn’t one player you would want on your bench, never mind on the pitch.

Which? The blatant handball or Dzeko being wiped out by the goalkeeper, despite being easily onside. You can scratch one off in favour of the Mane decision but they're both blatant. Liverpool are extremely fortunate not to be out and not to have been down to 9 men. You could dish out a red for the hand, you could dish out a red for the keeper at the Ref's discretion. It's up there as one of the worst refereeing performances since that Chelsea-Barca game.

The way I've got it

3x Penalties to Roma, Clear as day, 1 awarded. - Red card for Alex-Arnold (Questionable Deliberate Handball) Red card for Karius (Ref's discretion, preventing a goalscoring opportunity)
1x Penalty to Liverpool, Clear as day, none awarded - Red card for Florenzi (Easy card all day)

All from someone that's all too happy to root for the English team in Europe.

Liverpool just absolutely bottled that second half, they made the assumption it was job done and they were extremely lucky to come away with that at all. I mean Liverpool could've literally kept scoring, the attack is just that good.

denphone 03-05-2018 11:55

Re: Season 2017/2018

How was it a blatant handball? as no player could avoid the trajectory of the ball coming at him so quickly.

It's not about how he can't avoid it, it's about where his arms and thus hands are. His arms are above his head and thrown out. It doesn't have to be deliberate, it's as clear as day.

https://www.clippituser.tv/c/rydmvl commentary sums it up, he makes himself bigger, that's usually the grounds for the sending off.

You literally can't not give that. As for the sending off, Chancel Mbemba was sent off for this against Manchester United in a 3-3 draw. Madrid had a sending off not so long ago for it.

As above, overall it's not even just about Roma, the entire refereeing performance was shocking, you have a clear Penalty for Liverpool from Manolas challenge/push, you have a pretty gobsmacking scissor challenge on Mane that results in just a yellow.

Our future is in our own hands Jim.

With Stoke now out of the equation we are looking at the three teams above us.

Huddersfield will struggle to get any more points and we have a match against Swansea midweek.

Four points from the remaining three games should do it if three of those come against Swansea, provided Bournemouth do us a favour and beat them today.

I'm pretty fed up Den.

Bertrand, who has proved he no longer wants to play for the club, made a disastrous decision to keep the ball in play there.

Having said that moss is an absolute disgrace as a referee and not for the first time this season we concede way outside the added on time.

Yes we are out of the bottom 3 and if we beat Swansea we should be safe.

If Pardew got manager of the season for that 5th place finish with us then Dyche should be in with a decent shout. At the same time you've then got to credit Pep with the way City ran riot this season. Then there's Klopp but his defining achievement this season is non domestic.

Just watching that Watford game again, I didn't think anything of Dummet giving away a penalty until now. Didn't even realise it but he misses the ball, doesn't stick a leg out on the player so doesn't come close to bringing him down, Andre Gray slips a few milliseconds after Dummet goes down and falls on top of Dummet and penalty. Ey? I mean it was saved by Dubravka but christ the quality of refereeing this season has been one of the worst in recent memory for me. Obviously they didn't score from it, we still lost and its a mute talking point but it shouldn't be. It should be remembered for the horrible decision and to add to the season overall rather than just a bad decision against us.

Obviously they didn't score from it, we still lost and its a mute talking point but it shouldn't be. It should be remembered for the horrible decision and to add to the season overall rather than just a bad decision against us.

I quite like Dummet, he's under rated imo and can actually defend which is a rare quality in full backs these days

He's been good enough for what we've needed. He didn't have much of a choice with the club inexplicably ridding themselves of fullbacks on the left. Santon was was booted for no solid reason and Haidara had a mixture of injuries. No proper replacement was ever drafted in.

Unsure what the future holds for him though. All depends on what money Newcastle hold come the window.

Going to be interesting tonight.

I see Swansea are already up to dirty tricks ( remember the ballboy incident vs Chelsea)
Our hotel cancelled and had to stay 41 miles away
Ploice escort cancelled mysteriously so had to battle through rush hour traffic
Arrived at ground to be told "you have to sit on the team coach for 25 minutes while the Swansea coach disembarks"

Good luck for tonight, only room for one ‘foreign’ team in the ENGLISH premier league.:D

Found this interesting if not altogether surprising.

Question, why will the champions of the Czech Republic's top division be cheering for Liverpool in the Champions League Final? ;)

Something to do with the officials? or a ex Liverpool player?.

Apparently if Liverpool finish in the top four AND win the Champions League an English side would not get a fifth Champions League place, it would go instead to the winners of the Czech top division.

I think four teams from any one country is more than enough TBH. Or maybe it should be renamed the Premier,Bunders,La Liga, Serie A, Ligue 1 play offs.

Re: Season 2017/2018

I'm not sure why they'd get a position. There's never been an extra spot available if a winning team does or doesn't qualify. They take someone else's place. Liverpool took Everton and Chelsea took Spurs. The only way for an English team to get a fifth place was to win the Europa League as seen last year.

So by previous rules if Liverpool win overall and finish 4th then nothing changes at all. There's no extra place on offer. If Liverpool finish outside of the top four and win, they take the place of whoever finishes 4th.

The only place that could potentially be available is the Europa League winners place. Even then I'm unsure where that goes of the winner is already qualified. I'd assume to the runner up and so forth.

Copied from BBC web site. It would be the place Liverpool would be awarded for winning the comp.

If Liverpool win the final and finish in the top four of the Premier League, England will still only have four teams in next season's Champions League, with the Reds' spot for winning the tournament handed to the champions of the Czech Republic's top division.

Re: Season 2017/2018

Rules changed on 27th Feb. If they'd been in effect in 2005 and 2012 both Everton and Spurs wouldn't have been robbed of a Champions League place.

The way they rectified it was to award the winning spots of both the CL and EL to whomever, making up the two extra spots needed for balance.
