They shouldn't bother with SD channels, everyone has a HD tv now, right??

Get yourself a US Netflix account, they have all seasons of breaking bad now in 4k, although the content probably doesn't warrant the remaster it does look stunning.

Breaking Bad is available in 4K on the UK Netflix , I'm not that impressed in the quality if I'm honest.

Thanks for the link Richard, for those interested in the numbers game means one less channel that we haven't got that sky has. I think it won't be a huge difference to us as they were already showing some poker on SS4 and ESPN has been showing the world championship but might show now a dedicated section each week.

Separately I'm still struggling to see how they will keep SS5 going next season

Aye I can't see the reason for sky sports 5 next year. To be honest I never saw the point in launching it in first place!

I think Channel 4 show some poker too.

As for Skysports 5 most likely they'll put mls, spanish football, classic matches etc on it.

I asked a contact about this for you and was told that Spike TV would not have an HD variant and that there are no current plans to create one either.

VM have been given a provisional start date of 10 April.

Because it was filmed like an indie, like i said it probably wasn't worth the remaster, but still looks better than 1080p ( well it does on my 65 inch ).

Agree with you Vince. Yesterday for instance they had Gillette soccer saturday on which was also on sky sports news! Tonight they`re showing the Barcelona v Real Madrid match which is also on Sky sports 1!. Can`t see any reason to do this other than because they have nothing else to put on instead.

Yup.

I believe that &TV will be on EPG number 811 and that National Geographic Wild HD will be on EPG number 229.

At a wild guess (no pun intended :D) i'd say that the 4 channels that are testing are Spike TV, 5* +1, &TV and the confirmed National Geographic Wild HD.

Latest News from Media Boy HQ on new channels testing.
Last updated March 23rd.

Media Boy Blog will keep updating this post to give you all the latest information we can reveal.

What is testing - here is the latest list of new channels testing we have:
-Nat Geo Wild HD set to launch in April on Virgin Media.
-MORE THAN three more channels are testing.

We at Media Boy HQ has been told by Virgin Sources that Nat Geo Wild HD is set to launch on Virgin Media sometime in April.

We have also seen raw information that Virgin Media are testing more than three channels under the name "V0--". We will not reveal any more on them until Virgin Media or we see them being given real channel names (Like Media Boy HD).

As I said yesterday, VM have been given a provisional launch date of 10 April for Spike TV.

I forgot about TruTV, throw that in as well with my speculation as to whats coming, especially as we now know that more than four are testing.

First i've heard about this, it will be good for Boxnation subscribers though if it comes to fruition.

It's only a part time channel, but they do deserve the same service as those who subscribe through Sky.

Boxnation only turns over about £5 million a year (regarded as small by business analysts) and appears to be struggling in several areas if the business.

Well to be fair a Steven Gerrard "Blooper" channel would only air for 38 seconds a day.

Moving on, BoxNationHD? bah. Hopefully we get news of SpikeTV officially soon though.

Thanks.

Any news on launch dates for them?

BBC did report that Big Centre TV was set to launch on Virgin Media by end of March.

Saw advert for Spike channel on channel 5 last night. No mention of which platforms will be carrying it though. Looks like a decent channel to me.

What's curious is that their current satellite tests are encrypted. If they intend to be a pay channel on Sky, then they cannot be on Freesat

They are refering to tvplayer i think.

They will become unecrypted nearer to the launch.

Maybe they don't want people to be looking at their tests, but AFAIK, it's only showing a testcard at the moment. They are also squeezing it onto an already overloaded transponder, many people think that this will result in poor picture quality. Let's hope that VM don't take their feed from the satellite transmission!

The Spike TV launch party is tomorrow at The Hoxton for anybody who fancies gatecrashing :D

Spike TV website now has details of platform availability no channel numbers yet though.

....and it won't be on VM according to that website: http://www.spiketv.co.uk/

"COMING SOON TO: FREEVIEW, FREESAT, SKY, TALK TALK"

BUT.... perhaps it's just me, but it looks obvious that 5* is going to morph into Spike. A lot of 5*'s schedule has been cleared and what's left, in the evenings at least, is films, cowboy builders and police interceptors.

What do you expect from VM. if the channel is worth anything to VM, then it will be on otherwise forget it.

I have seen the website, and its good.

Until it shows up on VM then you'll be saying "well done VM another great channel" :p:

If it's anything like the USA channel it will be good i think it's unfair judging it before it even launches.

You have a point, but, from what I've read etc it's mostly reality stuff, Cops, cops, jail jail and more of the same, so imo it'll be crap...:D

Do you not think that we are getting to, or have already reached, saturation point with all of these channels? Couple that with the quickening advance and uptake of services like Netflix, Amazon Prime, etc etc, and there's so much on offer that you would need to be tied down to your friggin armchair 24/7 to watch even a fraction of what little good stuff there is on offer....:D

Re: Coming Soon to Virgin TV (2015) Vol. 1

who is in charge of virgin media channel acquisitions?? I'm asking this question due to the fact i'm concerned they've fallen into a coma or have passed away.

Before i get told "there are channels launching vince" i know that but they're +1 channels or HD versions and the only reason we're getting them is due to the contract being up for renewal.

"HI virgin want to sign up same terms"
"sounds easy enough"
"you get more +1 channels and a HD version we just launched"
"yeah"
"ok see you in 3 years"

Any new channels? nah of course not the channel acquisition bloke is sleeping as new channels knock on the door desperately trying to make a new deal.

Before you state

"but vince they may be asking for a lot and virgin are trying to keep our prices down!!!1"

OUR PRICES HAVE GONE UP BY LIKE A TENNER IN A YEAR.

All virgin are interested is increasing their profit lines. So obviously this new company are looking to sell up by the sound of it and make a tidy profit. Don't get me started on saying its due to broadband work as i've had a utilsation problem for over a year

We cant even get channels which are on blooming freeview! It must be the easiest discussion ever

"hi we're on freeview so we wont be asking for the world...just this amount"
"*gentle snoring*"
(the acquisation man dreams of spending no extra money on channels and putting bills up to a wonderful s%xual profit for his shareholders and maybe a big company buying him out)

and before you say "if youre that unhappy maybe leave". i'm not that unhappy really its just bothers me no new channels are coming except regional channels which they have to show and different variations of current channels. something dodgy is going on by this lack of spending and bills going up.
