Parking was terribly expensive when I was in hospital, I'm so glad I get transport for my appointments,

Well parking was as bad as we feared as it took us near on half hour to find a spot and thank god we left early as l would have never made the appointment on time else.

Re: Moans and Pet Hates part 8

The problem with locking wheel nuts (Especially the really cheap and rubbish ones Rover uses) is that they're not really designed to take the full torque of tightening a wheel nut/bolt. You can try and lessen the chance of the key breaking by removing the locking nut/bolt first, then the other wheel bolts.

However, what guarantees that they break is that a number of "less than skilled" tyre fitters (especially at the national chains) just whizz up the nuts with an impact gun when changing the tyre, rather than using the correct procedure (that is wind the nuts in with the gun, but use a manual torque wrench to control final tightening)

Another fun part of wheel changing is when a car hasn't had copper grease smeared between the (usually alloy) wheel's rear face and the steel hub on the car. What this means is that the alloy electrolytically corrodes (essentially welds itself) to the hub. Removing the wheel then becomes very difficult, if not impossible, without heavy tools and a lot of swearing.

After much deliberation I have chosen to have blood dialysis which is good.

But after a lot of looking into things I don't think I can do it at home unless Natalie gives up work to help me do it. So what with my other hospital stuff looks like visits to hospital will mount up to four days a week.

A big decision dilli and one that will not have been easy, Here's hoping that, in the not too distant future, you will will have a new kidney to cut down on the hospital visits. <hugs> to you both.

.... and you are young grasshopper.

No seriously, any decision you make now can be reversed if circumstances change and advances in organ transplant procedures could make make more donar organs available. The only thing you can do is make the best decision on how things stand now to stay as stronge as you possible can,

I wish people would stick to what they say, I'm supposed to be hearing back from the Jobcentre this morning. Now half 3 and stuff all from them. Think if they haven't called by tomorrow morning I will chase them. Although the person calling me was on leave until today so they may have a lot of stuff to go through before they can do anything else.

Someone in this family needs to learn to keep their germs to themselves. Yes I know he can't help sneezing and coughing but he could cover his face when he does.

Sorry to hear you have the mouth ulcers back Maggy. I seem to remember you had problems finding anything that helped to clear them in the past. <hugs>

I am just getting over a horrible sore throat and hacking cough but have been lucky that the small ulcer I got from continually sucking Strepsils seems to be going. :)

John's moan is that I seem to be getting my voice back after over a week of just being able to manage the odd whisper.. :D

Wish I had a voice, now getting into my third month with no voice. No throat or chest infection (well not a couple of weeks ago but think I have one brewing now) and just keep saying gargle with warm salt water, voice will come back when it is ready. Mean time, I have to put up with whispering all the damn time.

TFL's Oyster system.

Tried to renew my travelcard over the weekend, ordered it online and zapped my card to upload the ticket. Apparently, thanks the laughable design of their website, I have managed to order the travelcard on an Oyster I reported lost last year.

No problem, I thought. I'll get them to transfer the order to my current card. I phoned them and apparently they cannot do this. I asked about cancelling the order, and was told it would take 5-7 days. They advised me a wait a couple of days. Apparently when the ticket is not uploaded after a couple of days, the order will be cancelled automatically and my card will be refunded.

Unfortunately, I have to wait as the ticket is over £1,000, and I cannot afford to lose that amount.

Why on earth would the website enable me to order a ticket on a card that has been reported lost? Why, when this does happen, do they not offer a way to correct it quickly?

People who promise to do things, and then don't stick to it. Went for an interview for a work placement kind of thing through the Jobcentre, bloke said he would call the woman in charge of it with a start date for us. This was supposed to be 2 weeks ago (the phone call anyway), with the provisional start for this morning. Apparently, when chased by Jobcentre they hadn't decided on how many of the 9 interviewees they want to train and when they want the training to start for those successful ones.

The computer throwing a wobbly this morning and starting with a temporary profile. Ugh! The whole thing looks like <insert suitable word of disgust> And all the mail has vanished as well.

Instead of neat and tidy it's gone all Fisher Price and clunky. At least the registry hacks are still in place to tame the worst excesses.

Fiddled about and seem to have fixed it. I think I'll take a specific backup copy of my profile including all the hidden stuff to a separate drive in case it does it again. System restore points are active but I'd like to be selective.

Very important, get your suspension and steering checked out. Tyre wear like that is symptomatic of severe misalignment. Usual culprits are lower ball joints and/or track rod ends.

A check of suspension geometry can usually be done at the tyre centre with their laser stuff.

Thanks for the tip, got a service and mot coming up soon so will get checked then.

On a positive note my tyres for my car have reduced in price alot since i last got them 15 months ago!

We got it in ok I'm the end with only one really small problem (when I cloned the drive it forgot my chrome tabs) much quicker now :)

Now - I hope you get sorted soon. I learnt a long time ago best not to wait for these things if you can if it is a bigger problem than you expect you can sometimes get it sorted easier if you get it looked at earlier.

Need to get my laptop looked at, a couple of USB ports not working. Also printer gone up the wall, not happy as just bought new cartridges for the bloody thing as well. Seen a nice printer on Tesco but not sure if it comes with cartridges, need to look at that before purchasing.

Windows 8. Think it just needs a good strip down and clean, trying to avoid doing a clean install of Windows if I can.

Cyclists
Specifically those that don't wear helmets, have earphones in and have no respect for traffic in the centre of York. No sympathy from me if you get smacked by a car or bus

I hate people who let their dogs fowl on the pavements and streets

I dislike those that refuse to use the off road cycle tracks that run right alongside the road and made available by the local council, maintained by them and paid for out of my council tax.

Ah yep, a friend of mine has the 3.0

His inevitably frequent rear tyre bill is not pleasant reading

Think yourselves lucky that Brown didn't get the chance to implement his last planned raft of retrospective VED changes.

Ha! Brown and his previous cronies were the ones to bring in this sliding scale of VED. I seem to remember el gov recently complaining about losing vast amounts of revenue due to more and more people buying energy efficient cars.

What do they say about death and taxes? :)

Just to remind anyone who's forgotten how bad it would have been however:

Official figures, obtained by The Daily Telegraph, disclose that 1.1 million motorists who bought their cars between 2001 and 2006 will pay more than £400 annually in duty - compared to £210 or less now.

My moan is people who are meant to be your friends, but clearly have other ideas, about what being a friend really means. I can't seem to have an opinion, or say anything, without upsetting someone, be it on or off Facebook. I sometimes feel as though I'm walking on egg shells with some people. Oh well rant over

MalteseFalcon 25-04-2015 21:35

Re: Moans and Pet Hates part 8

In that case, you are probably better off not speaking to them at all. A mod on another Forum has a saying:

If you lend a friend £20 and never see them again, it was £20 well spent.

Got to say I agree with that.

Yep you are right, though I've never heard of that saying before :)

True friends will stick with you through thick and thin no matter what as they know you will also do the same for them as well.

The electrician was meant to be here today and he never turned up. We can't really hassle him as he's a mate and doing the work for a fraction of what it should be costing. Hopefully he will be here tomorrow. The kitchen is absolute chaos atm the new radiators are getting fitted tomorrow and we were hoping that the electric works would have been completed today. If only heero lived near by ;)

Main fan oven just blew up. Talk about pyrotechnics.Flash, bang, wallop.:erm:

I'll have to do the evening meal in the small worktop unit.

Then it's onto the net to get a new element on order.

Sorry but I find that hilarious. :D

With all you have been through, all the things that you have had done to you, all the mind warping restrictions you have coped with your breaking point is a jar of Marmite. Jo backs away giggling like a loon. :D :D :D

I will personally buy and send you the largest dam bottle of the stuff once you get the all clear to indulge your addiction. <Kiss Kiss>
