I think it's a great addition to the line up. Really good value. Top all round package for those on a limited budget.

This is the pack i'm basically on except i have 60mb broadband and it's £54.99p/m once my offer expires. Atm it's £44.99p/m even at £54.99p/m i think it's great value for what i'm getting.

Yeah, fair enough if loads of people are streaming video (especially HD), at the same time, very often. In most households, I bet that situation rarely happens.

Besides, I bet the 30Mb broadband will be upgraded at some point to a higher speed for 'free'.

Yeah. Alright Ben. Is this an honest offer this time, or another 'only if you're a disloyal customer' con like last time? Wait for it for 11 months, only to be told you're not entitled to it because you're on a loyalty bonus.

That wasn't a restriction of the last set of broadband upgrades, so won't be a restriction for the next set.

Is this a reference to the Netflix offer.

think so. And i agree with him.

The netflix offer should be across the board for everyone.I think there are quite a few on us on this 'loyalty bonus discount'. It would have been nice to try out Netflix but it does not make economic sense to do so.

VM did some good things in 2013- that was not one of them.VM should maybe check the definition of loyalty.

You can get Netflix free for a month irrespective of any VM offer, so I don't understand your comment.

Nope. If you were on a loyalty bonus VM refused to double your speed. Ask Ben. He defended it as being right, as he always does.:o:

No. It's a reference to VM's speed doubling con. Which they seem to be trying to resurrect....

I think he means the speed doubling "con" is the fact that it was advertised as free and resulted in price rises.

Correct. That's exactly what I'm saying. There was a thread about it in the BB forum, sadly it's recently been pruned.

In it, Ben (who robotically defends VM at all costs, no matter how ridiculous their actions) was busy explaining to me that because I had accepted a loyalty bonus, I was not entitled to speed doubling (30 to 60Mb). Above he now seems to be saying the opposite.

However, I am aware that this is not the right thread to take this any further. Just thought I'd clarify the point I'm making.

If it's the situation I think it is, then you will have been moved from XL 30 down to L 30, a cheaper tier, as part of the deal. Meaning you were then on one of the new tiers and wouldn't qualify for an automatic upgrade to 60Mbit, as you would have had to have remained on XL 30 to do so. It should have been made clear at the time this was the case, unfortunately it wasn't always, and I'm not defending anyone who didn't make it clear.

However anyone with a Loyalty bundle of any description got the appropriate speed upgrade for the tier they were on at the point of their area getting upgraded.

That's the one Ben. The upshot is, I was on 30Mb I was offered a loyalty bonus, I accepted it. Instead of giving me a loyalty bonus. VM staff moved me without my knowledge to a different L 30 tariff (that most people didn't know even existed) so I didn't get my speed doubled as a result.

Your second paragraph is a bit suspect. An offer to double customers speed if they wait (in my case 15 months from the first announcement) is an offer to double their speed. All I accepted was a loyalty discount. I didn't ask (or know) about my BB tier being changed. I was told I was getting the same product for a lower price so I accepted.

The con (because it certainly feels like one to me) has certainly worked for VM. They retained my custom during the time I was anticipating an upgrade. After they disappointed me, I even upgraded to 60Mb by paying the extra money for something I should be getting at no extra cost. I assume I am now on XL60, but who knows? VM might have invented another tariff such as Sucker60 for those they intend to con next time.

As I said, I'm not defending the situation - no-one should have been moved tiers without being told exactly what was happening, and what impact it would have for the announced changes.

You do, because it says on your bill what you are on. As you are now on XL 60, you will get an upgrade to 100Mbit as part of the next set of work.

This time around, there is no speed parity between one of the existing tiers and one of the new ones, so it will not be possible to drop a tier but remain on the same download speed

Hmm. I accept what you are saying Ben. But I'm suspicious of these 'coming in the near future' stunts that VM continually pull. It'd be easy to blind me with science, but why do we have to wait? Surely all necessary work was done last time? More likely it's a deliberate ploy to retain waverers.

I hope you'll understand why I view these announcements with suspicion. We've just waited a year for a TV Anywhere Android app, only to be presented with something that is nothing of the kind, it turns out to be a 'TiVo control app' which is about as much use as a chocolate fireguard to those of us who have no need or desire of a TiVo.

But despite all this, I'm actually a (reasonably) happy VM customer. :)

There has never been a speed upgrade that I can remember where everyone on the same tier got it at exactly the same time - there has always been a rollout schedule. Even if there is the capacity, it makes sense to spread out any customer service or technical calls, kit changes, and potential unplanned issues across a period of time.

The last upgrade and this 2014 one are the only two times where all tiers are getting a speed increase at the same time. However this one is due to finish in a shorter time-scale than the last one, so I would say yes, there was some groundwork laid for the 2014 upgrades.

I'm not sure why you were suprised about what it is - the iOS app has been around for a while now, and it's exactly the same.

I'm surprised because it was touted as a 'TV Anywhere' app, not as a TiVo controller app. I can get TV Anywhere on other platforms without a TiVo so it's logical to expect (it really is Ben) the 'TV Anywhere' app for Android (or iOS for that matter) to work without a TiVo. Otherwise it should be renamed to 'TiVo remote' or something that helps indicate it's reliance on a particular STB.

It could do with renaming anyway, have you seen the reviews on Google Play? They stink...

Happy New Year everyone! Best wishes to you all for the future.

My wishes for the new year on VM?

That the channel that shouldn't be mentioned finally appears.
That there's even more HD available.
That GOLD turns the bit-rate up.
That VM stops trying to rail-road people who don't want one, into TiVo.
That MB starts to take a pride in his/her posts.
That we see the start of 4K UHD. As soon as HDMI 2.0 is finalised, I'm in.
That we get a TV anywhere app that rivals Sky Go on both Android and iOS.
That we see an end to 'calls cost x on BT but may cost more on other networks'
That VM realises that caller ID should be standard on a premium provider in 2014, not an chargeable add-on.

Just my wishes, what are yours? :D

Happy New Year!

I don't watch much live TV having a TiVo, but have settled on the Thomas Tank Engine movie on channel 5 this morning for the sake of a peaceful morning because we stupidly saw the New Year in last night and apparently I'd better get up this morning if I still want to go to the match later! Anyway, there is a rather nifty red button option which takes you to quite a nice looking demand5 7 day catch up app. Is that new?

This shouldn't be a surprise as it is factually correct. For the time being.;)

Am I right in saying that you copy and paste this message at every opportunity, Dave? I seem to have read these exact same words on quite a few different occasions now! Is this the repeat season already??!:D

I kinda agree with you especially now it's on NOWTV too. We're not missing much anyway it's a pretty poor channel imo.

In comparison to what ?

I find most channels daily schedules contain 90% filler content and Sky Atlantic is no different , it does however have some excellent series many of which have won awards.

In comparison to channels such as Universal this is just my opinion though which i did say "imo." Since having Sky i've not watched Atlantic although i have watched 2 shows that are broadcast on it. Girls and Game of thrones but i watched them on HBO Nordic ad free.
I'm more into on demand services than channels nowadays.

A happy new year to all on here to. With regards to the channel that should not be named I hope it does come but I dont think it will anytime soon. I could access it by my Now tv box but wont pay £4.99 just to get that channel.

The channel I really hope appears is History Hd but I must admit the sd picture is pretty good.
