This is why I never believe anything until its officially confirmed from Virgin Media

There is still 6 days to go until the ESPN channels will broadcast for the final time before BT takes them over so anything could happen by then but know VM they'll leave it extremely late and remember as well the premier league doesn't kick off until August 17th this year so they could even leave it till week commencing the 12th which is another 18 days away yet

After seeing that BT have only signed up 500,000 which includes BT vision customers, can BT really afford not to allow BT sports in XL if only to boost the numbers subing to their premier channels.

An good story is up on the BBC web site about BT and it says:

Quote:

BT says it has signed up more than 500,000 subscribers to its television sports channels ahead of the new football season.

However, most are existing customers who received the channels for free after renewing their broadband contracts.

When these are stripped out, BT added just 23,000 new subscribers.

Wow I am so tempted to move, just costed up with the addition of fibre broadband, movies, HD and ents+ and it will save me £50 a month for 6 months and then be £15 cheaper a month at the end of it.

Might be worth slumming it for 12 months then Virgin will offer me the earth to come back as a new customer in 12 months.

It is tempting isnt it! The thing is if VM have made a deal to allow BT and sky to aggressively target VM customers for channel agreements its a rather foolish move...

Yes we'd get the channels etc but i'm only going to wait out due to the rumours i've found on the forum. Meanwhile average Joe who loves his football will be running to sky with open arms at those deals!

It's such a risky move by VM

Yep this offer is SD only

BT Sport HD is on channels 413 and 414 on the sky EPG

What sky are crediting you for is the SD channels only on channels 445 and 446

And you must take the sky sports pack

Cost for the first year with sky is £68pm but this will rise significantly for year 2

Hope so I'm with sky currently for the TV but my contract is out at the end of next month so the sooner I know whats happening with BT sport the better

The premier collection is going to be very tempting if they can get it in there at no additional cost.

Like many I'm getting board of waiting now with VM can never do things the easy way I don't know sky customers have know for ages now that they'll be getting it as ever VM customers are left wondering whats going on with just 1 week till BT Sport launches and 23 days till the Premier leagues kicks off

Yes I'm sure it has

for those who can't see what It says

The prospect of Sky Atlantic becoming available to Virgin Media’s 3.8 million TV subscribers has moved closer after it emerged that talks between the two companies have reopened. The channel had a high-profile launch in February 2011, but the UK’s two biggest pay-TV operators never really got close to agreeing a cable carriage deal at the time.

Sources have indicated that the operators have now reopened negotiations and, although a deal is not imminent, they are significantly closer to agreeing a price for Sky Atlantic than they were two years ago. One source said a “degree of realism” had entered the talks. Sky Atlantic launched with a number of flagship series from US premium broadcaster HBO, including Boardwalk Empire and The Sopranos, after BSkyB struck an output deal with the Time Warner-owned network.

It was designed as an exclusive home for premium content, including shows such as AMC’s Mad Men and Showtime’s House Of Lies, and was conceived as a way to attract and hold on to subscribers who were less interested in sport and movie content. Dramas The Following and Game Of Thrones now regularly deliver consolidated audiences of more than 1 million. The channel had a reach of around 11.1 million viewers in the first three months of 2013, according to Barb research, a year-on-year increase of 1.3 million. This puts it level with channels such as Fox and Discovery.

It is thought that Sky could be persuaded that an additional 4 million potential viewers for Sky Atlantic would be a positive move, boosting ratings for its content, which is often accused of rating poorly relative to its quality. Carriage negotiations for Sky’s other channels on Virgin Media are due to be renewed this month, at which time a deal for Sky Atlantic is likely to be discussed.

Virgin Media could also be looking to replace ESPN, which will close this summer, in its premium XL package. It will want to ensure it keeps churn low for its top bundle and has not yet struck a deal for BT’s forthcoming sport channels. A move for a high-profile channel such as Sky Atlantic could help it retain customers. The cable operator’s outgoing chief executive Neil Berkett has previously said that Sky had initially asked for an “unrealistic price for the product”.

I'd imagine BT are doing the pushing. They'll do a deal at the last possible second on the chance of people getting sick of waiting and joining BT Vision/broadband instead.

That's if they do one, I still can't see it happening.

Well, if we don't get BT Sport I hope they have other channels to launch to make up for it...

Interesting, but the article's a month old

None will make up for it if you're a football fan. I don't understand the logic that people will be happy to have Sky Atlantic instead of BT Sport. Football fans can't watch 38 live Premier League games on Sky Atlantic, it would be no substitute whatsoever. Not everyone is into these american "entertainment" shows anyway, I couldn't care less. I want all the sport, and I want it in HD.

I am lucky as I will be getting it anyway, I have an unwanted Sky contract running out on friday and that will turn into a freesat box but it's up here in my room. Would much rather simply upgrade the Virgin setup to VIP and get the benefit of that inccreased internet, movies and free 0845 numbers etc, a VM box up here and BT Sport appearing on both boxes rather than just one. This is a key benefit of it being on VM, should it happen. Surprised more people aren't mentioning it, it's a distinct advantage over Sky (once it happens).

It seems BT are still posting adverts through doors with the headline "Lots of ways to watch it . One way to get it - BT."
http://forums.digitalspy.co.uk/showp...&postcount=465

Sky Atlantic is still be advertised as Exclusive to Sky all over sky.com and during nearly all ad breaks it displays the Sky Atlantic logo with 'Only on Sky' below it.

Make of this what you will , I appreciate things could change.

Might be worth slumming it for 12 months then Virgin will offer me the earth to come back as a new customer in 12 months.

I agree if only I could get skys superfast BB I would be taking that offer too.

Funnily enough, in the last week or so any ads on tv for Sky Atlantic programmes have dropped the "only / exclusive on Sky" statement...

It isn't the football I am most interested in about BT sport as I am a fan of UFC. So I am really hoping that VM pulls this out off the bag and signs BT.

Also so much for the 18 top picks on the football, I don't think I have seen 5 out the list shown.

If it wasn't for the UFC I would just say sod BT sport and go the pub for the 5 decent games they will show.
