Boxnation have confirmed on Twitter that Boxnation HD will not be on the Virgin Media platform from launch. Boxnation are still working on it currently. There is unconfirmed speculation, and I mean speculation, they are trying to get on UPC in Ireland as part of the negotiations.

I think Boxnation are trying to secure a new carriage deal for their channels with Virgin for both the UK and Ireland, which may be holding things up a little. Ultimately they have confirmed they will have news soon for Virgin Media customers. How things are panning out just now are very similar to when their channel launched just over 2 years ago. I'm 99.9% certain Virgin Media customers will have the new HD channel. I'm also getting a sneaky feeling, and it's a really sneaky feeling, that there might be moves to get the channel in XL. I've got nothing to prove this but Boxnation are in the middle of a revenue drive and are looking for long term guaranteed income. |
Re: BoxNation on Virgin Media?
Having it in the XL pack would be very nice indeed but then again there will be disgruntled customers (no names) :) who will say there is enough sport in the XL pack as it is.

premier sport is on the xl package now but they have stopped showing live boxing

I'm not sure VM would want BoxNationHD until it increases its output to more than just a few hours at weekend.
It is currently not a HD version of the SD channel. |

I for one want this channel in HD on VM as I am paying a premium for this channel and the HD version is at no extra cost! |

I remember at first Boxnation was only broadcast part-time for a short while before it went 24 hours. I can't remember their exact broadcasting times but I remember there was nothing on at all through the day until about 6pm. |
Re: BoxNation on Virgin Media?
I used to really enjoy boxing a few years ago when it was FTA, i wouldn't pay extra for it though so my interest declined when most of it went to sky and PPV.
Boxnation in the XL pack would be great :) |

Boxnation Tweeted the following earlier today in reply to questions about Boxnation HD on Virgin Media:
"We don't have a timescale for this, but HD on Virgin Media should be coming and we'll tweet when we know more." I also received an e-mail from Boxnation today in regards to a few queries I raised. They confirmed the following: "At the moment all the live events will be shown in HD on Fridays and Saturdays 19.00-23.00hrs, and on Sundays 0200-0600hrs. The long term plan is to have the BoxNation HD channel 24/7. However, HD is hugely expensive and we are providing an interim solution that allows us to broadcast all our live events in HD at the weekends for our customers to enjoy." As far as I know this hasn't been confirmed by them anywhere else so litte bit of news is a Cable Forum exclusive :) |
Re: BoxNation on Virgin Media?
I'm fine with this as long as it's a premium channel and my XL tv subscription is not being used to fund this dire sport

Whilst SKY have Ricky Burn Vs. Terence Crawford next Saturday, Boxnation have a double header. It's Abaraham Vs. Stieglitz III followed by Chavez Jr. Vs. Vera II. On the card from the States, Lomachenko faces Solido for the world title in only his second professional bout! Can't wait!

big night of Scottish boxing tonight how do you see it going?

Re: BoxNation on Virgin Media?

Crawford arrived in Scotland 24 hours later than expected after missing his original flight. Rumors from his camp yesterday suggesting he's struggled to get into a regular sleeping pattern and is pretty hacked off at how cold and wet it is here. He turned up at the press conference looking pretty disinterested and wouldn't engage in conversation. At times trying to get one word answers was like pulling teeth. Of course this could all be a big act however he's showing all the signs of someone that is either missing home comforts or possibly struggling with the weight. Crawford has never had a 12 round fight, and only has 81 rounds under his belt. He's fought at a lower level than Ricky so far and has never boxed outside the States. The crowd in Glasgow will be rabid on Saturday and will generate hostility Crawford has never boxed in front of before. If Crawford has genuinely had issues settling this week, and it's not all an act, he might just be Rickys Jeff Lacy. |

Boxnation launches their PPV service on SKY:
http://www.boxnation.com/garcia/pay-per-view-support/ Bloody expensive! Makes SKY Box Office look like a bargain! |
Re: BoxNation on Virgin Media?
Boxnation is not going up in price on the Virgin Media platform. From the 1st April the subscription goes up to £12.00 for SKY customers however the price will stay at £10.00 for those who subscribe via Virgin Media. Talks between the channel and Virgin Media are still ongoing in regards to Boxnation HD launching. It's not a case of if, it's a case of when...... which should be soon.
Boxnation also confirmed today that "We’ll never ask channel subscribers to pay-per-view. This new facility is for non-subscribers only." They're playing their cards close to their chest in regards to what their PPV plans are going forward. |

boxrec now have the copperbox show 12.4.14 as follows
Skeete v TBA Buglioni v TBA Smith v TBA Conquest v TBA they must be losing money on these events as they don't seem to know how to promote a fight which seems strange the years frank warren has been in the game? maybe its due to the loss of dean powell but I don't think so as the shows fell apart before he died! surely its not hard the get decent opponents before announcing a show? |

Re: BoxNation on Virgin Media?
Press release today regarding Boxnation:
"Boxing Channel Media Ltd., owners and operators of BoxNation, the UK-based subscription boxing channel, provides an update today following its statement to the market on December 5, 2013 regarding its plans to IPO on the AIM market of the London Stock Exchange. The Board announces that, following an approach from a significant private investment, it has decided to withdraw its current plan to IPO on AIM and is to carry out a strategic review across the Company, which will see the underlying business and management team strengthened. Following the Board’s decision to withdraw its plans to IPO, Richard Brooke, who has been Chairman since the launch of the channel, has stepped down to focus on other business interests and will be replaced by Frank Warren, arguably Britain's best known and most successful boxing promoter over the past 30 years. Further Board changes include Jim McMunn, formerly of Endemol Sport and Setanta Sports, who has been appointed as Managing Director of BoxNation, and George Warren, Managing Director of Queensberry Promotions, joins to become Commercial Director of BoxNation. The Board is also delighted to announce that Bill Ives, Chairman of Rainham Steel, and one of Britain’s most successful businessmen and entrepreneurs, has been appointed to the Board of Directors of the Company. Alongside Bill Ives the Company also welcomes Alison Chapman, who has been Financial Director at Rainham Steel for the past 13 years, as Finance Director at the Company. The Board will provide a further update to the market, following the ongoing strategic review, later this month. Commenting on today’s news, Frank Warren, Chairman of Boxing Channel Media Ltd. said: “Firstly, I would like to thank Richard Brooke, who has guided BoxNation from its embryonic stage to the substantial independent subscription platform it is today. He has been a major asset to the business over the past two and-a-half years and we wish him well for the future. “I am delighted to be appointed Chairman and I am firmly behind the shareholders’ decision to remain a private company. I am excited for BoxNation’s future and look forward to aiding its continued growth and development into one of the UK’s premium sports platforms. We have shown some of, if not the best boxing events from around the world, and the UK since our launch in 2011 and our aim is to continue in this vein whilst developing other areas of the business". Newly appointed Managing Director of BoxNation, Jim McMunn added: “These are exciting times for BoxNation with a host of sensational events coming up. “The channel currently has its strongest ever schedule with standout events such as; Manny Pacquiao v Timothy Bradley, Floyd Mayweather v Marcos Maidana, which also features Amir Khan and Adrien Broner, and the blockbuster heavyweight showdown between Dereck Chisora and Tyson Fury in the summer. “Our recent major investment in the HD platform and Pay-Per-View facility has been greatly received and I look forward to continuing the channel’s vision in becoming a major sports pay TV service with boxing at its heart.” A few Tweets from Boxnation today in reply to queries about when Boxnation HD will launch on Virgin Media. Sadly it doesn't sound too positive: "Virgin Media have been offered BoxNation in HD and we'd love to see it happen." "Virgin have been offered BoxNation in HD and we'd love to see that happen one day." |

On SKY the channel doubles up as a PPV channel. If you subscribe to Boxnation, you get to watch the Boxnation HD channel for free. If you don't subscribe, and want to watch a fight, you have to order the event in the same way as you would a SKY Box Office PPV. If you record from the channel, regardless of whether your a regular subscriber or not, you only get 7 days to watch the show before it gets auto-deleted from your SKY+ box. Alternatively if start to watch a recording, you only get 24 hours to watch the broadcast before it auto-deletes. It's a very strange set up. It's not really a full time HD channel. Even if you are a subscriber you have to make a dummy purchase for £0.00 to record from the channel. It's all very complex. Boxnation themselves acknowledge this. I'm sure Boxnation want to launch the channel in the same way on Virgin Media. It's likely Virgin can't be doing with the technical fannying around involved. |
Re: BoxNation on Virgin Media?
Question for those in the know.
My brother has just added Boxnation through Virgin Media for this weekends Mayweather fight. He only wants the channel for 1 month / 30 days. When would be the best time for him to cancel the channel with Virgin to avoid being billed a second month? Does he have to give 30 days notice? Thanks in advance |
Re: BoxNation on Virgin Media?
The way Cable work is:
Your brother will need to pay about £22 for 9 weeks viewing (4 weeks ahead) in June bill when he cancel after 30 days he will get some money back in July bill. |

Re: BoxNation on Virgin Media?
This must have come as a shock to many people in the boxing world. Was Frank Maloney connected to Box Nation in any way?
Most of the men that I have met that have been born the wrong sex or are transvestites seem to be involved in macho activities. The last transvestite that I met served in the Falklands and it turns out that Frank Maloney is transgendered. One would think that he would have naturally veered towards a less macho role, maybe he was trying to prove something to himself? Was he ever a boxer too in his younger days? http://www.independent.co.uk/news/pe...y-9660310.html ---------- Post added at 19:57 ---------- Previous post was at 19:55 ---------- Quote:

Re: BoxNation on Virgin Media?
Just finished watching an interview on YouTube with Frank Warren. It was filmed yesterday by I Film London. Towards the end of the interview Warren starts talking about how Boxnation is currently getting on. After chatting about launching on Talk Talk, and potential deals for future programming on the channel, he mentioned the channel is available in HD on 2 platforms??? Now maybe he's just made a mistake or Boxnation HD is going HD real soon on either Talk Talk or Virgin Media.
Another interesting point from the interview is Frank is close to signing a promotional deal with Cuban Guillermo Rigondeaux! Whilst he doesn't have a massive fan base, it certainly opens the door to a potential super fight against Frampton. |
