If the V+ is relocated upstairs, TIVO downstairs, I take it the basic HD channels stay with the V+?

Thanks Ben,
But my concern is that so many people who booked online seem to have been offered/selected 23rd April - so does that mean if they can't install on that date that we'll be offered installations later than the 23rd? That causes major problems for me as I am a freelance designer who has a pile of work the week after Easter. Had really hoped to get an installation date next week when things were quieter, but due to very poor service on the telephones, they wouldn't let me order despite me being an authorised user on my husband's account.
Have been patient through all of this, but now I'm not happy.

If someone gets the 23rd in Glasgow, but someone in Sussex also gets 23rd, then it doesn't matter as the install availability is local to you.

Hi all

If I currently pay £6.50 on M+(Starter), can someone tell me apart from the £149.99 fee for the Tivo box, how much extra will it cost me a month in addition to what I pay now?

...because at the moment Virgin have muddied the waters with the 500GB Baby Tivo and now I don't know weather to wait for that one instead.

You can't get the 1TB TiVo without upgrading to XL

So that would be a total increase of £21 including the £3 TiVo fee

You will be able to get the 500GB TiVo for an £8 a month increase (for the TiVo fee)

Thanks for the quicky reply.

So as I currently pay £5.00 a month for the V+HD Box, in real terms the 500GB Tivo will only be a monthly increase for me of £3?

Cheers - £3 sounds better than £21 extra a month, in these difficult financial times. So I think I will hold out for the 500GB Tivo. :)

Your order will be with the web team, so probably won't be on your account just yet.

Once you've had the confirmation email, then you can call to adjust if needed. HTH

Due to heavy demand, confirmation emails are taking up to 48 hours to be sent telling you the agreed install date and time slot. Guy on the phone said it won't appear as an order on my account until the date and time has been confirmed (they'll either email me with one of my two preferences, or call me if neither are available).

Will they still call you to confirm pricing as people seem to have conflicting reports on costs?

Yes demand has been very healthy from our pre-reg customers, so it's taking a little longer than we'd like to confirm, but don't worry we will be in touch! :)

I think it's the free install offer :D

I was told they'll email me if one of my two date and time selections are agreed, or call me if neither of them are available. Once they call/email you to confirm, the order will be on your account and Customer Services will (finally) be able to help you. I assume the email/call will outline your costs.

Call them once the confirmation email's come through :-)

Re: General TiVo Discussion Part 2

Hi all, I've tried a number of times to call and order TiVo on the phone. After a couple of calls, which were unsuccessful due to "system errors" or "system not being updated", I was told that since I only have 10 Mb Broadband currently I would have to have an engineer come to install V+ HD first before I am able to "upgrade" to TiVo, is this correct?

Or in other words: is having a current TV package a requirement before TiVo can be installed?

If this is the case then I will probably be unlikely to get the free installation for TiVo since the earliest I can have V+ HD installed is on the 27th April and it will take a few days to swap it for a TiVo box.

I didn't have to think too long and hard about that one, well done VM.

I did wonder what they were going to do with 30,000 returned boxes!

I'm really pleased for you on that one, but I do wonder when VM will learn to offer consistent pricing across all customers?

Most people keeping their V+ boxes are being charged the standard multiroom charge and others (as per your post) are being giving it free of charge.

Some ordering Tivo are keeping their retention deal and others are being told they will lose it.

The vast outcry over Tivo install was due to some being charged for installation and others getting it free.

But I do wonder if VM want to address it? There was a thread on the VM Tivo forum called 'Tivo or Loyalty discount' and it was closed, apparantly for going off topic. Yes, there were the usual stupid Sky's better than Virgin and Virgin's better than Sky posts, but that seems to happen on a lot of threads and they don't get closed.

Yes I've been charged multi for keeping my V+. Virgin do themselves no favours by doing this. Just causes resentment for not being consistant. I'm going to call them back now and make a nuisance of myself.

Those on the VIP packages should already have 2 boxes, so there shouldn't be an extra charge to keep the V+ box, assuming you don't end up with 3 boxes as a result.

True, but I don't see how that fits the scenario described by Groo. He was going to swap one box for tivo but is now keeping that box as well as getting Tivo Whtever package he's on, that gives him an extra box.

If you previously didn't have multi-room, then there will be an offer to keep your existing box for free.

You should get a 'phone call about it in the coming days from sales. I don't think you can request it.

Had my Tivo installed yesterday and kept my Samsung V+ box, can't believe the confusion this caused despite explaining clearly and patiently several times when I ordered it. Install guy had to deactivate the V+ box or something and then passed me over to some woman on the phone who was adamant I'd have to pay an additional £3 a month to keep the V+ box even though I'm on VIP50.
Installers then left before checking V+ was up and running properly (probably in a hurry due to delays with my install) only to find I only had the basic freeview channels on it. 2 hours later and lots of faffing about getting serial numbers off the box and the card it was finally all sorted.
Will not be a happy bunny if I see they really are going to stick £3 a month extra on my bill for keeping the V+ box

Cheers DF is this a TiVo wide deal? Do they want rid of the V+s?
Would this be covered in £149 fee?
Sorry for the questions!

Just a quick question, I'm getting TiVo on installed on Friday (oh yes) and am having my SA V+ moved upstairs. Now my SA has been getting worse and worse over the last few months, rebooting, freezing and loosing partnership with the remote. So my question is, when I get installed can I get my SA swapped at the same time, do I need to get onto VM or can the engineer organise it?

speak to the engineer, he will make the decision if he feels it needs swapping out.

Well I had my TIVO installed yesterday and I can't believe how much faster it is over my old SA box. Kids have already got to grips with thumbs up although I fear we may have a box full of suggestions based around CBeebies and CBBC programs in a weeks time!

I had to be out all day so the wife and kids were in for the installation and when I got home my wife said she couldn't believe how polite, efficient and enthusiastic the engineer was. He clearly explained everything, spent time talking to the (young) kids and did an excellent job. It quite unfortunate that this kind of service is the exception these days but Virgin get a huge thumbs up from me for this engineer. Is there any process at Virgin for me to pass on my thanks to this engineer?

One last question DF I promise!

When originally booking my TiVo I declined having my first box moved but upon talking to my girlfriend we decided that we should. When I had my install confirmation call yesterday I asked if I could change that and she said yes and that was it, she didn't seem to make any change to my account she just said yes.

I just called VM got put through to the TiVo team and got them to change it so I will keep my V+. Now my install is tomorrow so my question is: Will I still get a call offering it to me for free (like you said the TiVo team had no idea about the offer)?

I think Ben means that a lot of people with existing multiroom accounts already have offers applied? That's how I read it. I am not aware of any on my account. Call me synical but I can see this whole thing working out better for new customers and people taking up Tivo, where by existing customers that want to sit tight for a little while are going to get shafted and lose out in one way or another.

The multi-room offer is only for customers who currently have 1 stb. Sales will be offering other customers a different upgrade offer.

No harm in asking next month as there may be other offers, but no further info at the moment.

How much did you pay to swap both V+ boxes with Tivos? £149 x 2 = £298 ?
Do you have to pay a new £3 a month additional charge? Because you now won't have a V+ service did they take off the monthly charge for V+?

OK I miss read. Thanks for clarification DF. Sorry I just find this all very confusing the way I am billed currently and what my new one would be if I took TIVO. Let me get one thing straight:

1: If I take a TIVO at all, any shape/form....it automatically starts a new 12 month contract?

2: There will be a new additional £3 a month TIVO charge unless I am a VIP customer - which I am not, atleast not knowingly TV XL, 50mb BB, Talk weekends and evenings on phone, no TV extras.

3: If I completely upgrade getting rid of any V+ boxes and only have TIVO boxes, would I have the V+ monthly charge taken off? Is there even one?

Ta :)

I paid just under £300 (Tivos are £149.99 I think).

If you are on Xl, there is no charge for the V+ apart from the multiroom charge for the second box. VIP pricing was different for a second V+ box.

Some people even on XL were paying the legacy £10 P/M charge, but i converted that charge to free with a one off fee a few years ago.

BenMcr 14-04-2011 12:41

Re: General TiVo Discussion Part 2

As far as I'm aware everyone can have the £10 dropped now

VIP customers can have it removed when they move to the TiVo version of the bundle

Customer not on VIP (or XL Plus) can now request it's removal without having to pay a conversion fee

!. Yes new contract on the TV only

2. Yes £3 for VIP20 and below

3. You are on XL, so wouldn't have been paying a V+HD charge, you will however have a multi-room charge (£6.50 per extra box)

Thanks DF, I just checked out my bill and you are right I don't pay that charge anymore. I think I used to. It's a bit confusing re. exta STB charge as mine says:

1 Add Set Top Box(es) £15.00

Add Set Box(es) Discount £9.40

Which = £5.60

As opposed to the charge which should normally be £6.50. I know I have had "one-offs" applied due to major service issues I have had in the past where they changed my bill to reflect. I have a "goodwill gesture" discount applied which used to show under loyalty instead.
So for me, it would be an extra £3 per month. For me personally I can't accept that. It's the principal of it. I'm getting no extra content and would be merely replacing existing technology with a better UI and having to pay an extra amount monthly. It doesn't matter if it's 50p, it's 50p too much imo. Nothaving a pop, just saying that's my view on it. I will await these offers you talk of for existing multiroomers. Maybe Virgin will offer to waive the £3 fee, or even the £6.50 fee and keep paying the £3 fee, which would both equate to approx a £3 saving.
I also still think the TIVO 1tb boxes should be priced at £99. :) Not a joke, I really do. I will wait for them to come down I think. The 500gb is pointless for me. 1TB is still a dissapointment with the price of 2TB drives being low now. 1TB is for me mandatory for day to day HD usage.

Thanks for all your help on this topic so far DF and all.
