Just a quick question
XL TV £23.50 XL BB £20 XL Phone £12.24 = £8.00 = £63.74
But on the VM Website it says a bundle of Triple XL is £46.56 + £12.24 = £58.80

which price would I pay ?

Not 100% on that. Might be one for BenMcr to check for you. I wouldn't want to give the wrong info. :)

so this will be available in march? If so why is it being announced so far ahead of time? If it is in march don't change to XL packages until then guys, no point wasting your money until then.

The first is the non-discounted prices, you get a discount from taking multiple services.

Having existing customers who stay longer and for some increase their ARPU, can only be good for VM in the long term, plus churn will be lower too. ;)

Cindy Rose has already said she wants to do things differently.

Maybe a combination of what you and muppetman says.

I hope it delivers and that it's a success but it's not for me as i'll never be a Triple XL customer. £189 to loan a PVR and an ongoing sub is out of the question but I'm actually quite happy with V+ for now.

That £58.80 is only valid until the 30th Nov in the small print. So waiting until VM announce their pricing might price you out of the difference of £4.94pm. I think? I was gonna upgrade tommorow but DF said wait. Don't know what to do.

Re: Coming Soon to Virgin TV (2010) Vol. IV

Can I just say Well Done Virgin -

You've hit the nail on the head if this pricing is correct, for the first time in a long time this makes perfect business sense.

Both Virgin and Tivo need this to be a runaway success, this will be their flagship TV service and they need as many people as possible to upgrade to this.
Most current Virgin subscribers have already forked out between £50 and £200 to have their current boxes and if were asked to fork out another £200+, a great number of people would just stick with their current set-up. Especially in the current economic climate.

I fully agree that new customers should pay the same as we have in the past for their boxes.
Also on the back of this, the increase in revenue from most subscribers upgrading to the top tier packages to get this price gives another great boost to their numbers and revenue.

I am so excited by both the specs and pricing of Tivo I finally feel honoured to be an existing customer that will be looked after!

Thank You Virgin for listening!

Re: Coming Soon to Virgin TV (2010) Vol. IV

Well, if those prices are right I think I will be upgrading my phone to XL for £8 a month so I have XL XXL XL.

That way my 12 month expenditure for TiVo would be (£8 x 12) £96 on top of my normal bill rather than (£149 + £40 + (£3 x 12)) £225 for the year. Then at the end of the year downgrade my phone back to M (I never use my landline) an just pay the £3 a month, costing me £36 a year for TiVo.

Not a bad deal really, and I guess at some point that £3pm will disappear too.

If you cant see any advantage to tivo and dont want a better box then the pricing is pretty irrelevant. To many people the box being on loan is irrelevent also. With VM's main competitor just getting a better box without tivo was initially twice that amount if VM allow a self install. The only advantage that box has is a larger hard drive which is pretty useless if you dont stay subscribed to their service. I think if people do want a better box with the tivo software they will be willing to pay that amount. Anyway it gives them another choice they can either stick with what they have got like you or pay for better.

I#ve just spoken to virgin and the cost to me as a VIP customer is a one-off fee of £60 per box. Its £75 for new customers. This prompted me to ring customer services because i was going to ring them anyway to make a change to my services. i got though to a very helpful Scottish lady who went through various screens of info she had on tivo but she found no pricing. Pity because I would probably pay the higher price but of course I would be a lot happier with the price you were given. I wonder if it were £60 fee would it be a higher monthly charge than the £3 per month that Media Boy was told.

This is bonkers. Price rumours are on topic for the Tivo boxes surely.
Maybe it's time to allow a Tivo thread and all discussion/rumours and leave MB's thread separate.

The reason I ask is that a TiVo thread (or two) have been closed because we are discussing it in here (as it's in MB's first post) yet we keep getting asked to stop talking about it here. Just need a litte consistency. :tu:

You have got to be joking? This thread has no topic??? It's a total free for all.
A few people have asked for a Tivo thread and some have even created some threads and the mods have closed them down.

One of the biggest things ever to hit Virgin and we have 1 thread 90 pages big with allsorts of crap mixed in.

The thread is about channels and services coming soon to VM and while discussion of TiVo is ok as the service is coming soon. However Wildly guessing about pricing is a waste of time until VM actually announce the pricing themselves.

Do we know for sure how many programmes can be recorded at the same time? When the Tivo box was first announced I saw an article that suggested it could record three at the same time - though I cannot find said article now! More recently I have seen two programmes mentioned, the same as the current boxes which seems more likely.

I don't see why it will be regional launch. Virgin now have a single TV headend so there is nothing to stop it being available everywhere at the same time (When the V+ HD launched there were three headends, so three slightly different boxes)

It's more likely that any restricted availablity (if that is what happens) will be down to services rather than geography

Ben do you think there will be enough boxes to match demand as I rememeber when Sky HD launched they had to delay peoples installs due to supply problems. Looking forward to getting one. Do you think there will be lucky people who get them installed before Christmas ?

As Stephen has said we need to get back onto topic, it would be a good idea to move all TiVo discussion on to the TiVo thread located here:

Unless someone has news on a launch date for the regions or something VERY important, it's best to move all talk about the upcoming service in the thread linked above

I would run through the technical reasons why Sky does it but the V+ doesn't but that's not for this thread ;)

But suffice to say, if TiVo can record up to three channels at once, then I bet it can do it. If it's configure the same as the V+ HD box (record 2 and always watch a live channel) then I don't think it will

Just spoke to Retentions department and had some worrying news. They don't have much info really, nothing about pricing structures or release dates but apparently they have been told there will be 2 versions of the TiVo box:

320Gb = £249 (with a possible £40 install fee)
1Tb = £299 (with a possible £40 install fee)

Guy on the phone said it was "in line with Sky's pricing for its HD boxes". He sounded like he actually knew what he was talking about which was good, if a little worrying.

As no pricing for TiVo hasn't been announced at all, I have no idea where they got those from

Retentions are no different to any other frontline team - they get to find out at the same time as everyone else

I've always thought that the TiVo was going to be part of a subscription as apposed to being available separate?

they really should have 1.5TB drives as they cost very little more, they'd have a nice marketing advantage over the Sky+HD box too.

Why does it say US Boxsets instead on NBC Universal on demand? Some of the shows arent working by the way eg: 30 Rock 1st show plays for a few seconds then goes back to the menu.

I guess HD shows will be added later, any plans for Catch Up TV shows from any of the NBC Universal channels in there?

What makes this info. especially suspicious is VM have never mentioned two sizes of hard drives. Only a 1Tb has ever been mentioned. Tivo do two sizes but I don't think it would be worth VM offering a choice of sizes. It would be an unnecessary complication of their pvr range.

Not sure, that's just what they have decided to call it. Yeah I can replicate the 30 rock issue on my box too.

They could market having the eSATA port enabled which would allow you to expand the disc storage as required - they could even sell (sorry rent) the additional hard discs and could keep the external hard disc content encrypted and paired to just one box to prevent digital copies proliferating. Or that could just disable the eSATA port and miss a great opportunity.

Well Sky do at least 2 different sizes, bear in mind that not all users will want 1Tb drives, many survive on 160Gb at the moment.

The guy told me to keep an eye on here and Digital Spy as well.

Re: Coming Soon to Virgin TV (2010) Vol. IV

New Tivo press release online.

http://pressoffice.virginmedia.com/p...859&highlight=

Highlights

Quote:

Through its dedicated 10Mb cable broadband modem, which is built into the personal video recorder, the new platform will also bring the ever-growing popularity of the app store to the living room for the first time, doing for TV what the iPhone and Android have done for the mobile phone. Built on an Adobe Flash-based platform, the latest videos, social networking and information apps will be updated regularly. The service launches initially with apps from major web brands including catch-up TV from BBC iPlayer, videos from YouTube, shopping from the online marketplace eBay, Tweets from Twitter and photos from sites such as Facebook, and the app line up will expand over the next several months.

The service will be supported by a brand new set-top box offering 1 terabyte of storage – up to 500 hours of standard definition programming – as well as access to 4,600 hours of TV shows, movies and music on demand. In due course, there will also be the facility to set recordings remotely via online and mobile devices.

Featuring cutting edge hardware design, the Virgin Media TV powered by TiVo box will have three tuners*, allowing viewers to record two channels whilst watching a third so recording conflicts become a thing of the past. The future-proofed service will automatically be updated with new features and functionality as they become available

Virgin Media TV powered by TiVo will begin to roll-out from mid-December. Standard price of £199**, plus £26.50 per month*** for the XL TiVo package which features over 160 channels, an unrivalled TV on demand library and access to all standard HD channels. For further information, or to register for interest in the Virgin Media TV powered by TiVo service, visit: www.virginmedia.com/TiVo

* The service is launching with two tuners and will be updated with three tuners in early 2011.
** Standard £40 installation costs apply.
*** When taken with a Virgin phone line. Monthly cost is £32.50 when taken without a phone line.
http://shop.virginmedia.com/tv/tivo.html hasn't yet been updated but it's only a matter of time.
