True but also many are not!! I'm not having a dig at anyone, I was an S1 owner myself, it's just we were specifically told staff then existing customers and that seems to have changed :)

Wouldn't it have been fairer to release to VIp and then XL existing customers.

When, or whoever has their TiVo installed, let us know how it went and how fast it runs compared to the current boxes.

I think speed/performance will also be a big selling point too :)

haha DF I bet you're chomping at the bit to say more...poor you :D

For the lucky person getting the Wednesday 2nd install, at least they will be free to discuss it to their hearts content which will hopefully mean your gagging order will be lifted imminently :tu:

Oh and just a quick question for DF if he's still there. Me and the misses both registered online when the page was first available (we were too excited and hadn't realised the other had done it)! That won't go against us will it??

Re: TiVo

Apparently we got a call, but it was a really confusing recorded message saying the VM were unable to contact me and the number wasn't a virgin phone number? WTF? I'm utterly confused as to why they would phone us with such a message especially since the fact that we received it means that *can* contact us, and they should know it's a VM phone as it's a VM area code FFS.

I've looked all over for a way to fill in contact details like alt. numbers, mobile etc. but there doesn't appear to be any. Not looking good for getting this offer :(

I think it would be more likely that callbacks would be made between 0800 and 2000 and what would they be calling you back tonight for anyway as the offer you are all waiting for has not even been announced at the present time.

AFAIK this is the first group of customers to get TiVo, its a special offer for them for being current or previous users of TiVo in the UK.

TiVo Tension Symptoms:

  • Close proximity to landline/mobile phone.
  • Eagerness to stay wake 24/7 until Virgin TiVo teams calls.
  • Depression until phone rings - if call isn't from Virgin, then depression is followed by anger which is followed by depression.
  • Large periods of the day spent looking at TiVo screenshots and the phone.
  • Breakdown in existing relationship between customer and existing Virgin Media STB.
  • Sick days off work just to be next to landline phone at home during work hours.
  • Creation of new threads on various forums demanding to know why Virgin haven't phoned you yet.
  • Random vocal outbursts to no-one in particular, examples below:
  • "PHONE ME ALREADY!"
  • "THEY CALL THIS COMMUNICATION!??!"
  • "WHY HAVEN'T THEY PHONED ME!??"
  • "I REGISTERED FIRST! THEY SHOULD HAVE PHONED ME FIRST!"
  • "I'M GONNA GOTO SKY IF VIRGIN DON'T PHONE ME!"
  • "WHAT'S TAKING THEM SO LONG?"
  • "PHONE ME, DAMN-IT!"
  • "I WANT MY WISHLISTS AND I WANT THEM NOW!"
  • "TYPICAL VIRGIN, THEY DON'T CARE ABOUT THEIR TV SERVICE!"

TiVo Tension Cure:
  • A TiVo. If that isn't available then the following is recommended until a TiVo is confirmed as being available:
    • Lager
    • Wine
    • Good Food
    • Long walks
    • Sex
    • A Holiday, which should include Sex if possible.

If symptoms persist after Virgin phone you and install a TiVo, please consult your local GP.

;)

I'll admit I haven't read the article but there hasn't been official mention of the 149 figure from Virgin yet so maybe that's why? And I guess March is considered later in the year and that's the month I've seen mentioned for the 3rd tuner becoming active.

Just had my phone call from Virgin - he said it was the first call he'd done.

I was offered:

£149 activation fee
free installation

(So that sounds like £90 off the standard offering?)

12 month contract
28 days cooling off period

Installation this Wednesday (!)

I already pay £25.25/month for L (10meg) broadband. To add XL TV to this would be an extra £18/month, plus £3/month for Tivo. So £21/month for Tivo, and cable TV with HD.

I don't want a phone line so didn't get a price with that.

The 'we can release a patch to increase the connection speed to 20mb' part of that article was the bit which really caught my eye.

Either that modem is 'locked' to 10mb via config files (and its clearly capable of greater speeds); or DS misinterpreted what they were told; or that patch really kicks some serious arse and turns a 10mb modem into a 20mb one.

I'm on night shift this week so this could be fun!
What's the betting that the time I'll be asleep, VM will ring.

As an S1 owner since 2001 paying the £10/m sub for the EPG, I hope I get a call :) I guess being a VM customer since the cabletel days and early adopter (£50/m for 512k BB and £150 for the modem, first batch of silver TVDrives ect.) wont help yet...

Of course they can. The modem is provisioned for 10mb, but capable of faster speeds should the need arise.

So...does anyone know if there is anymore news! I am eagerly waiting for my phone to ring! Is that likely to happen today?

Re: TiVo

Can somebody tell VM they have wound up their customers into a state of panic on Tivo, better get more staff in to make those initial contact calls!!!

Great post yesterday HDFootyMan on "Tivo Tension" by the way, should be distributed around the VM call centre staff so they can understand the pent-up Tivo frustration of their customers!

So the VM marketing approach is working nicely then. ;)

Yes, but a marketing approach is only good if they have a product available to market!

Anyone hoping for a TIVO call I think you'll be disappointed.

I have my reasons

5000 people picked at random

Spoke to retentions today about the 30Mbit upgrade and while I was on asked about the TiVo situation. The information he had is that there will be 500 boxes supplied in the first wave, then a bedding in period to see what issues arise before any more are installed.

I cannot vouch for the accuracy, but that is what I was told.

Re: TiVo

Have to say that makes sense, don't rush out too many too fast, just pot luck if you are in the first tranche of 500 I guess. But if they do 500 at a time, it will easily take until June to complete 5000, let's hope I am not last in the current queue!

Same here mate I was told 5000 to random existing customers who pre registered and then if all goes fine the next wave is end of March. Apparently 20000 or so pre registered.

Re: TiVo

Does anyone inside VM have any idea how many people registered on the VM TiVO site?

If that's true (but why wouldn't they pick the first 5000?) it would take longer than a day to call and arrange 5000 installs.

Re: TiVo

It all adds to the frustration! I notice they have officially announced the 30mb and the website has been updated. I wonder if they'll be any official Tivo announcements today.
