We've gained a point in fact. At the end of the day we got a draw away rather than a loss, and we probably avoided being the main talking point tomorrow.

But, more Importantly, THERE IS ONLY ONE INVINCIBLES!

Nobody likes to lose but on reflection I'd say blowing a 4-nil lead is marginally worse than losing a game in hand.

Hardly worth commenting on but just in case you are under any illusion, Man Utd have, as a percentage more season ticket holders living at Manchester post codes than Man City.

It is amazing who Wolves have beaten this year and yet they are still bottom of the league.

I think its a cunning plan from SAF, games against Man City, Chelski and Arsenal coming up. Now they won't have the added incentive of trying to stop an unbeaten run.;)

:p:

Still around London. Besides the majority of fans live in North London, Essex, and Hertfordshire. United probably have the most diverse sector of fans. It is amazing that United are one of the most supported teams in London, certainly up there with West Ham, Arsenal and Spurs (Chelsea seem to have less for some reason). Out of my friend group United are the most supported side (other than Arsenal). It's a very rare occurrence in Football. Probably only United, Madrid and Barcelona have similar situations. Africa has a lot of Arsenal and Chelsea fans though.

I do wonder why United have that wide a support. Liverpool are a successful club as well and it's not too rare to see a Liverpool fan in London or anything but much rarer than United. Maybe it's because my generation grew up in United's ultra successful years.

To be honest it was mostly a wind-up. However I find it odd that a lot of my United supporting friends have never been to a game. I love going to the Stadium much more than any other part of supporting a club. I never got to go back to Highbury after we won the double in Wenger's first year so I watched all our successes on TV. I prefer the feeling of going to the Emirates than I did watching Arsenal win those titles. Obviously I want both though :p:

This is a pretty feeble attempt.

Are you seriously considering the space of literally a couple of hours as meaning it's a "game in hand"? Desperate.
Arsenal drew, you lost. Your unbeaten record is gone, Arsenal's unbeaten season record is intact for another year. Not only did you fail at extending your lead, Arsenal are actually closer despite dropping points.

Yes, ending that run with a Rooney dive. Ooops, i forgot.............ENGLISH PLAYERS DON'T DIVE!

That's very easy to say now and rather illogical. You can have the outright record for number of league wins AND go unbeaten for one season.

It's not a case of one or the other, they bear no relation to each other in the context you've used.

Shadow Demon UK 06-02-2011 00:18

Re: Football Season 2010/2011

The point was more to do with Arsenal fans going on about their unbeaten run. For most United fans winning a 19th league title is far more important than going unbeaten for the season. Yes we could have had both but at the end of the season if we've won the league i won't look back thinking 'if only we went the season unbeaten'.

The ref had a shocker. Nolan should have been off, second penalty wasn't a penalty. I dunno, what can you do.

Meh. Crucial thing is the team responds. I worry what this will do when defending leads but Arsenal had mostly recovered from that problem this year and it took a weird set of decisions and mistakes for it to happen. At the end of the weekend it will be a point gained on United, with the regret being that it culd have been 3. Wolves gave us a 'get out of Jail free' card.

Re: Football Season 2010/2011

Really enjoyed the match at Eastlands yesterday (and Mary D`s afterwards was fun as you can imagine :D )
Still think City should have pushed on a bit more in the second half to try and get the goal difference up a bit but saying that West Brom seemed a different team and played much better football second half.
Most of the players looked like it was a case of job-done, lets not exert ourselves to much which allowed W.B.A to have quite a few close shaves with Joe Hart having to pull off a few decent saves!
What i can`t for the life of me work out is why`s Mancini trying to convert James Milner into a holding midfield player. Almost every time he got the ball he had a good ten yards of space in front of him yet opted to pass straight way, normally sideways. I allways remember Milner when he played for Villa going down the wing and whipping in some great crosses, he just seems wasted playing where he is
It certainly was a strange day for premiership football, but i suppose that`s been the case most of the season...

It's amazing how much a club legend can galvanize a team, Liverpool look 10x better under Dalglish. Hope for them yet. Arsenal fans, you keep saying Newcastle got a soft penalty, but what about the perfectly legitimate Newcastle goal that was disallowed? Strangely muted on that...
Winding up aside, I still honestly think we're going to be handing over "England's Biggest Club" title at the end of the season, it's still surely heading to OT

Very VERY odd claims coming out of France. I must point out that these are only claims on a French News Wire and have no additional substance as for yet.

However the Arsenal vs Newcastle match is being investigated by Interpol on allegations of match fixing: http://translate.google.com.au/trans...n&hl=&ie=UTF-8

I simply do not understand this at all, Arsenal got no ref decisions in our favour. Seems rubbish to me.

Surprising it's because of ALLEGED money transfers between Dowd and Rosicky.

The site is reputable. That's all I know.

What doesn't make sense is why we got so many decisions against us if this were the case. There was a non-penalty. Newcastle getting away with quite few bad tackles without a card and Diaby getting a deserved red card (albeit he was provoked by the tacles) and a similar offense by Nolan not being given. Not only did every 50-50 decision go their way (1st pen) he gave another (2nd pen) which was bizarre.

So while the site is reputable I think it's rubbish and they are going to be sued.

Translation was a bit off. Basically he is part of the supposed investigation due to the timing of his arrival and his performance. The article says that there was suspicious movements of money, betting i am guessing, around the game. Nothing about Dowd either.

---------- Post added at 21:02 ---------- Previous post was at 20:54 ----------

So to be clear. The Site is reporting that Interpol are looking into the match, namely suspicious patterns. Nothing about Dowd and Rosicky will be looked into as a result of his sub. All of that IF the story is true, which is probably isn't.

It was a dead cert really. Among the likes of Alan Brazil, Mike Parry, Adrian Durham and that odious glob of waste Danny Kelly this now makes them the most likeable characters on the station, well apart from Micky Quinn.

West Ham are the prefered bidders for the Olympic stadium according to members of the legacy committee, expect an official announcement on Friday.

I have to say that while I am not surprised by the decision I think it was a poor one. I question West Ham's ability to fill a 60,000 seater stadium and the choice to keep the running track and the impact it will have on the atmosphere and the fans at the ground. Obviously keeping the running track is the reason West Ham won the bid, the rest of the bid was inferior to Spurs and they require public money. However how will the OPLC enforce West Ham keep the track? Unless there is a pretty clever solution I envisage it being gone within a season or two.

Oh yes Spurs was by far the better bid, to rip down a brand new stadium and screw up several other major developments would have made sound sense, there is a reason 12 London Boroughs supported the hammers bid and that has nothing to do with running tracks and the £40 million public money was already set aside for the conversion and is less than Arsenal recieved when they moved to the Emerites.

Spurs had a better bid because it's easy to understand how they will fill the Stadium and how they will make it economically viable. Taking down the Stadium would be embarrassing but then the initial idea, when the stadium was being designed, is that the Stadium would be knocked down to 25,000 seats anyway. It wasn't designed as a Football Stadium, it wasn't designed to be a long term 60,000 seater Stadium. While people have been admonishing Spurs for the great crime of rebuilding it they are forgetting they are only going slightly further than the initial plans were in the first place.

The £40 million was not 'already set aside' this is money loaned from Newham to West Ham which was not available to Spurs. Remember the Stadium and area was built with public money in the first place. Whoever got it would benefit, the £40 million (which is a loan anyway) is not the end of the public investment. All of which totals more than Arsenal got.

The Spurs bid had bit the bullet. Remove the running track, move out of Tottenham. They had acknowledged the flaws in their bid and how to remedy them. I still don't see how West Ham plan to fill the stadium or how all the finance will work (the owners have said they will underwrite any losses in the event the Hammers go down, is this promise legally binding?).

I would rather they made it the athletics only stadium they had planned too of course. I also find it quite funny that Spurs are back to the drawing board on their Stadium plans. However if it's going to be a Football Stadium, I preferred the Spurs plan.

But didn't the Spurs plan also get scupperred by Crystal Palace now looking to move into the CP athletics stadium? The Spurs proposal would have redeveloped that stadium to ensure there was an atheltics legacy after the Olynpics were finished

Maybe. Whole thing became awkward when they decided to give it too Football tbh. I would rather they knocked it down to the 25,000 seater and make it available to other sports.

So would I, much, much prefer it. Oh and the money is already in place for the stadium I believe, the costs they were refering to at least the other day were the clubs general running.

Well, they had more attempts this game than the derby at Eastlands. Neither goalie had to do much.

We weren't superb, but we took our chances.

He went so crazy it went beyond disgust and into admiration to be honest. It was very amusing to see someone kick off to that degree. :D

Off to Arsenal vs Barcelona tomorrow. Scary.

A life ban just for that? Get a grip.

In all seriousness though, i find it pretty ridiculous (and unsurprising) that people don't seem to be questioning what Joe Jordan might have said or done to provoke such a reaction.

Like i said; a life ban just for that? You should be more concerned with Flamini's two footed challenge.

Some quotes from Gattuso, courtesy of Gabriele Marcotti:

"I lost my head. I was wrong. There is no justification for what I did."

"Jordan was busting my balls for the whole second half, but I should never have done what I did. There is no justification."

"Not going to say what was said, thats between us, we were speaking Scottish [sic]. Do I expect a ban? I'll accept whatever I get."

The same goes for Joe Jordan then.

If anybody has lost respect for Gattuso after this particular incident, they couldn't have known much about him in the first place. It's not exactly out of character.

Joe Jordan wasn't the one going around grabbing people by the throat and headbutting them. No matter what the provocation, there was no need for Gattuso to behave in the way he did. There are always tastless comments on the football pitch and i'm sure Gattuso was giving his fair share tonight along with Joe Jordan, but it was only him that reacted.

Maybe i should rephrase it to whatever respect they had left for him is now gone.

Re: Football Season 2010/2011

Seriously tho, as much as i love passion in the game, you can't excuse gattuso for losing it. To defend his actions based on what jordan could have said is a weak argument. Would you excuse a kid for headbutting another who teased him all day at school? I'm sure evander h was right in tyson's face when he chewed his ear off. Is that ok? And what about zidane's headbutt in the world cup?
Whether gattuso was right or wrong, he should be banned for displaying the type of behaviour. There must have been plenty of young budding footballers/kids watching that game on tv. They should be shown that such behaviour is unacceptable.

No one is excusing what he did and he will be punished but it was amusing the degree to which he lost it. He was a roving lunatic. I especially liked the image of him picking a fight with Crouch who was twice as tall as him! I agree with Niles that Flamini's tackle was far worse.
