No idea of the validity of the comments, but there does seem to be a new HD rumour every other day at the moment. Lets hope there's no smoke without fire.

Who is this "Big Red" guy? I like the sound of what he posts, but without knowing what his sources are and how accurate his information is, I shall remain sceptical.

Yes i have read it before all i can say is i will believe it when i see it,could be there may be a "skyHD" bundle on its way sometime or other, but it would have to be reasonable as i am sure like skys own customers vm customers would have a £10 charge levied no doubt lets face it,sky would not wsant virgin to be selling it for less then them.Unless of course ofcons own pay tv enquirey orders them to sell sky sports/ movies HD at regulated prices.

But in time honoured virgin words its "coming soon":D

This big red guys post does indeed sound very very genuine... the tone smacks of the truth to me...

All that list says is that those are the channels that VM would like to get before 2011, I am quite sure that would be obvious to anyone that VM would like all available HD channels to be on their platform.

I read it said "go and get this list" which is not quite the same as "like to get".

Before we talk of more HD, I would like to see some of our existing channels go widescreen, Comedy Central shows quite a few new shows now and operates in 4:3 as do some of the Discovery ones, surely all channels should be in 16:9 now.

SKY1HD would be great, Modern Family and 24 in HD would love it.

broadcasting in widescreen is nothing to do with VM its to do with the Broacasting company that owns/runs the channels. its only VM`s resopnsibility to sign them and make sure they get shown to custimers.

Go get it - like to get - hope to get - maybe get it. They are all the same thing, they don't have it and would like to.

It's all very interesting, if all suggested HD channels were delivered by VM then I would drop my sky subs like a rock (I'm out of contract but only keep it for the HD channels) and keep VM TV/BB & Telephone.

Vm did say 2010 was going to bec the year they concentrated on the tv service looks like that was true then.

Does anyone know when ofcons pay tv report is due to publish its final report later this month? probably due at the end, which COULD see sky being told to wholesale sports/movies which could include HD versions of said channels also. They cannot keep quite about it for much longer now publish and be dammed i say.:)

It is a bog deal Virgin customers as we don't have access to Sky Movies in HD so this is a good alternative. As for the adverts, thats why I, and I am sure many others, have a V+.

I will be honest I have a very good tv ( Sony Bravia) and Sky HD. Although there is a difference between HD and SD broadcasts the Upscaling the TV and box does together I still get a very good picture through SD anyway.

I don't think the adverts are as often as ITV,Ch4, Five and alot of Sky channels. I also have V+ so wouldn't be a problem.

Film4 normally has a 3 min ad break every 20 - 30 mins. I've recorded films in the small hours that have had just a single ad break in the whole film.
Personally, I don't mind them - they have to make money somehow and the V+ means I watch them at x32 speed anyway ;)

Re: Coming Soon to Virgin TV (2010)

Great news about more new HD channels although the more they add, the quicker the V+ hard drive fills up. VM really need to sort this on any new future equipment. I believe the american version of the TiVO does have a big hard drive but whether that comes over to the VM version remains to be seen.

Does anyone know if they are likely to increase the TV subs to pay for all this HD goodness? Apart from the annual increase in April of course.

and the croissants...even better :)

Yep, couldn't agree more - 2009 TdF looked great in HD on Sky. Eurosport is great for all things two-wheeled!

Excellent news about the new HD channels, 2 great additions as far as I'm concerned. Very interesting news that Film4HD will be a VM Exclusive, I wonder if there will be more similar details to come? ITV HD is hopefully the next priority.

(Virgin will do this within the next week.)

Sure. Will keep you posted.

When they are removed, is this the first step to NGTV?
thus meaning the headend is due sometime soon?

Yes.

When your Local Radio is removed within the next three months your Headend will join NGTV then about two month later you will get an new viewing card.

I think they are moving a little quicker now MB. Possibly even down to a month. Derby DE22 started receiving cards last week. The boxes were only updated at the end of Jan. I'm livivng in Notts at the mo so will let you know when our cards arrive. Software was updated about 2 weeks after Derby

Okay I am not a big radio listener so if I am in London (I think the Acton headend) what should be my local radio station that I should be keeping a eye on to see if it has gone?

Media Boy UK 08-03-2010 21:12

Re: Coming Soon to Virgin TV (2010)

Local Radio was only on Ex-Telewest Headends.

When you Headend has join NGTV you will see BBC Radio 4 LW (Channel 911) and BBC London 94.9 (Channel 937) broadcasting in you area.

As I have stated in the past, there is almost no HD content on ITV HD

I would say, most people just want it for Champion League footie and the World Cup.

I too read that rumour somewhere today to regarding the hold up but can not for the life of me remember where.

Hi All just to let everywon know the following channels will be comming to virginmedia from April

Eurosport HD
Discovery HD
Film4 HD Exclusively On Virgin Media
E4 HD
Cartoonito
Military History

Also Virginmedia changed my box to the samsung V+ box. It is Alot better than the SA boxes.

* Better picture qulity
* Quick response
* Records and stops recording in 2 seconds flat
* No humming or vibration from the harddrive at all
* Large and very clear display on box makes it easy read

The samsung boxes uses a WDC WD1600AVVS by Westen Digital Caviar of which if you read the specs of the hard drive you will be impressed

http://www.wdc.com/en/products/products.asp?driveid=597

The Old SA boxes uses WDC IDE 7200 rpm ultra DMA 133mps hard drive that is why it takes longer to record.

The samsung uses WDC SATA 3.0Gb/s Hard drive that is why its quicker to record on.
ps. I dont know what the harddrive spins at due to the hard drive IntelliSeek

---------- Post added at 23:31 ---------- Previous post was at 23:29 ----------

Also Virgnmedia announced they are going to 100Mb Broadband by the end of this year

You're obviously not a football fan :) Champions League, World Cup and FA Cup football is enough for me. Anything on top of that would be a bonus.

I'm glad someone else has finally said it. I don't find the jump to HD all that monumental. f you have a 100 hz tv or better it makes ALL the difference. Mines a Sony Bravia too.

Ben (or anyone else who works for vm) is any truth in this -

I got called off the person who elevated my case for lack of on-demand access and he was saying that the stand alone hd boxes can be ordered from the 15th with self install for £49.99 & £15 postage and he would add a note to my account for a free one as a good will gesture. And that they were launching them from April 1st.

So any truth in that?

Btw I now have on-demand in HD but no SD.....swings and roundabouts I guess.
