SKY Atlantic is still very much in it's infancy and will need time to grow. SKY 1 and SKY Living have shows that have been running for years, have dedicated fan bases and tend to span 20 to 25 episodes such as Greys Anatomy, Criminal Minds, The Simpsons and Modern Family. These will undoubtedly help keep the viewing figures high. Ironically I don't think any of these shows draw the viewing figures that Game of Thrones does.

Sky1 as we know it launch before Channel 4 did in 1982.

-Sky 1 started on 26 April 1982 as Satellite Television Ltd. Channel 4 was launch that following November.
-On 27 June 1983, the shareholders of Satellite Television agreed a £5 million offer to give News International 65% of the company. On 16 January 1984 the channel was renamed Sky Channel.
-On 31 July 1989, Sky Channel was rebrand as Sky One.

There's only really a bunch of shows we watch religiously in our house. Game of Thrones, Penny Dreadful, Boardwalk Empire, Banshee, The Following and The Borgias........ before it got cancelled. I watch Mr. Sloane and my wife watches Seinfeld and The Sopranos. We give most new things a try on the channel but not everything is to our taste and there is a lot of filler. The quality of the shows is top notch but alternatives can be found on other channels. Vikings, Ripper Street, Dracula, The Blacklist, Sons of Anarchy and the Walking Dead are just as good or better than the majority of stuff on SKY Atlantic.

I hear that Sky are set to launch an '24 hour reading news papers channel' called Sky News Press due to it ratings winner for Sky News.

And that's my least favourite "show" on SKY News.

First of all Richard we are not really a fan of suggestions as such and yes we do set up wishlists for quite a few different things but even with that there are still many interesting series and programmes you can pick up by trawling through certain parts of the EPG.

OK. My supplementary calculations:
Ireland accounts for 700,000 of those Sky TV customers ao the UK base figure should be 9.9m making 9.08% of Sky TV customers regular Atlantic viewers.

If we assume that Sky Atlantic would get similar viewing figures if it were on VM and TT then the viewing figures would be:
Sky 9.9m TV customers
VM 3.8m TV customers
TT 0.5m TV customers (Estimated and excludes those just those taking the Freeview channels)
Total 14.2m

14.2m x 9.08% = 1.3m

So if Sky Atlantic were available on the VM and TT platforms it would have a daily reach of 1.3m viewers in the UK making it the joint second largest pay-tv channel with Sky Living. Not bad for a fairly new channel.

But not justifying the price that VM are expected to pay for it! Otherwise, why not charge the same for Sky Living? The whole thing is just a ruse to enable Sky to claim that they have exclusive channels and that they have the best choice for viewers.

The box is not capable of doing this for new series that haven't been on before, and we can't second guess what might come up that's new every week. For me, a trawl through the TV and Satellite Week before Saturday is essential to ensure I don't miss anything.

They are both, Chad. Clearly, the +1 channels increase revenue, but they are also useful for those of us who record or watch a lot and frequently find programme clashes. Both sides win!

Sure, the purpose of my post is to demonstrate to those who may believe otherwise that Sky Atlantic is performing well.
