Clearly the British viewing public don't all share the view that Sky 1 is poor as looking at MB's link it appears Sky One has the best figure among Entertainment Pay TV channels or have I read that wrong ? Sky Atlantic's daily reach and weekly reach also seem to beat quite a few other Entertainment pay TV channels despite only being available on Sky and Now TV.

Sky 1 is like many other channels as it has some excellent stuff on there amid the usual trash.

Agreed Den in fact I'd say the terrestrial channels are pretty much the same also , wasn't the PVR invented so you could cherry pick your viewing across 100's of channels.

agreed but it wins on the reputation of two or three shows which shove the channel ratings up. You're still completely right but i think overall the channel doesn't consistently reach ratings

I think you'll find Vince pretty much all channels are the same certainly among the pay channels anyway.

Spot on!

Indeed generally every Sunday morning we trawl though the EPG to pick up things that we might like for future series recordings.:no::spin::argue::juggle::sulk:

I know that's what they say, Andy, but we've only got their word for that. Given the ratings, I am suspicious of that claim.

Earlier this year I moved to Sky for my TV and Phone basically as they made an offer cutting my overall costs by 40%.

However, I basically watch the same programmes on the same channels I had with VM. So access to the Channels exclusive to Sky had no real effect on my choice. I expect there are a lot of people out there like me that choose their options on Pay TV purely on price.

OK, stay with me on this boring bit of business red tape. Sky is quoted on the London Stock Exchange. If it makes statements about Sky Atlantic contributing to 25% of TV subscriptions then it must support this with evidence.
I was initially surprised that Sky Atlantic was behind Sky 1 in the ratings but as others have said, Sky 1 is also available on TalkTalk, VM and UPC whilst Sky Atlantic is exclusive to the Sky platform.

You missed an even bigger point Andrew , if there was no truth in it driving TV subscriptions why would they extend the deal through to 2020 at a cost rumoured to be in the region of £275 million it simply wouldn't make sense.

Sky Atlantic is a channel that many Virgin customers want because they haven`t got it but once (if) they get it would hardly ever watch. I was with Sky and Hardly ever watched Sky Atlantic. When I switched to Virgin I never worried about losing Sky Atlantic at all. Yes there`s one or two good programs on it but in my opinion there`s alot more better programs on Sky 1 and Sky Living (such as Hawaii five-o,The Simpsons,The Blacklist,Criminal Minds and Unforgettable).
