I think that 'Newco' is just an expression used by lawyers etc when a proposed company restructuring involves transferring part of a business to a new entity, rather than a real company. Presumably at this stage nobody actually knows who or what will be taking over Sky News when (or if) the News International deal goes through.

That is indeed correct, it's a term I see used often in work.

However in this case I understand that the new listed company name actually will be called 'NewCo'

Perhaps it is a nod to News Corporation.
