We did the same with his BB and he seemed to appreciate his car as he bought it. Plus it is not good imho to get everything handed to you, help your kids yes but also teach them the value of money.

I don't think my Dad knows just how happy he made me feel today as he phoned my youngest this morning and wished him a happy birthday, trust me this is a 1st and a memory that I will treasure forever my youngest running in my room and telling me that his Papa wished him a Happy Birthday :) it really is the simple things that make a huge difference to your day.

I'm just about to leave to visit my Dad now with his Herald news paper and bits and bobs.

Sister away for a week so she won't full my Dad's head full of BS :woot:

Now myself, the OT and the fantastic doctors and nurses can focus on getting him home and building up his confidence as I have already spoke to the doctors about getting a hospital bed for him for when he gets home as this is what my Dad wants and yes I know that it will be hard work but surely if this is what my Dad wants and the hospital agrees then imo it will be worth the hard work and if it does not work out then at least we have tried giving our Dad what he wishes and wants.

Yes, doing the best you can for him is all you can do. I remember with my Nan, she wanted to be at home for the last few months. There was no way I could cope, even with nurses and other help coming in through the day so it was decided it was better for her medical needs to be in a home. I still wonder now if she would have lasted a bit longer had I pushed for her to be at home for a while but I'll never know now.

It's worth the hard work, I stayed with my mother during her last week's but having never done anything like that before we were left entirely to our own devices, there is an excellent support network out there for you to use though and it'll make the time you have together better.

I've decided that I'm going to book a week away and it's just me and hubby.
I'm going to try and get it the week of my 50th.

I did ask my youngest if he wanted to come away with us and the horrified look on his face said it all really.

5 days away with Mum and Dad or the house to himself, I suppose I already knew the answer before asking him lol

Does not look like I will be going away Mark as I've to get hospital test in the next few weeks :(

Dad getting home on Tuesday now instead of tomorrow as hubby has explained to my Dad and the hospital staff that I can't commit atm due to many reasons but mainly ill health and the stress of the situation is not helping.

Long story short it is now up to my sister to confirm all arrangements, please don't get me wrong I will still help out but it definitely needs to be on a 50/50 basis now.

Loving the prices in Kyrenia, TRNC.

Went for cocktails on Friday evening at the rooftop bar in the Colony Hotel, and because it was Happy Hour we had 25% taken off the total bill - the four of us had two cocktails each, and the final bill was 169YTL (Turkish Lira); approx. £22.

We then went to a lovely restaurant called Efendi (rated by Tripadvisor as #2 out of 255 in Kyrenia) - again, an unbelievable total bill of £125 for the four of us, which was for 3 courses each, 2 beers, and 3 bottles of wine.

Bargain!

The fun has began she threw a hissy fit by all accounts and has tried to get in contact with me, try she may as she is blocked from all phones and blacklisted on my emails so the only way she can contact is by coming directly to my door and good luck getting past D and my two boys :D as we both know that:
(A) The likely hood of her doing this is slim.
(B) If she did then D would send her away with her tail between her legs and let's be honest here either D or my boys would love the (B) scenario.

Spending a night in hospital. Why a happy thought? Well because after doing 60.5 hours last week I thought I was having a heart attack Saturday night and left work early and ended up calling an ambulance after feeling like I was about to pass out. Happily, after a night of blood tests and ECG's I was given the all clear but warned about doing too many hours. Sadly, my weakness is I can't say no to people's faces if they ask me to do overtime. Suffice it to say, I am now putting myself first and will not be seeking to push myself hard for a good while yet.

Combines a moan with a happy thought.

PITA that Mr A's camera fell on the floor & got badly damaged day before an air show..

Kudos to the insurance company on the very first day of the new policy starting, being absolutely brilliant. Many years of only small claims under a previous insurer have stood us in good stead

On Friday I went with my sister and co and drove to andover to spend the night in a travelogde befor I went to Thruxton to get my birthday pressie.

I did several sighting laps in a skoda with a driver telling up the driving line, braking apex and exit etc.

Then I drove in a Porsche Caymen which had paddle shift (Which I thought was easy), I then drove in a 5 liter Ford Mustang ( I stalled it at first) boy was that fun, I should have drive as a passenger in a GT Cup car.

But while we were waiting for my drive the said GT Cup car came into the pits and the Driver and passenger got out PDQ as it was smokeing like a old steam train.

My sister ask what was happening and they said they have a plan B but don't know what it was.

Well plan B was 2 lap with Tiff Needell in a BMW M4, boy was it scary, so the racing line and he drifted around many corners, even my bum hole gripped the seat :D, I also got his autograph, he was very frendly.

The way he drove the M4 he had to fill up every 3o minutes, and tyres 2/3 times a day.

Having recently completed my ongoing insurance claim for burst pipe flooding I was pleasantly surprised to receive an insurance renewal quote just £30 more than the previous year - still under £300 for buildings and contents.

This after them paying out over £140,000.

Maybe a claim for a camera won't be so bad after all. ;)

Going over to Brighton this evening for an old boys reunion. One of the old boys is a good friend and lives in Worthing so we usually take the train over.

We'll grab a bite in Wetherspoons (Bright Helm, West st) before meeting up with the others in a traditional pub down in the Lanes area.

Usually get a good half dozen who can make it. Glad the weather has finally got its act together. :)

Fifty years ago tonight, after a long hard slog as pub trainees at Swiss Cottage ( a pub) in London, a bunch of us decided to have a party and watch the moon landing on telly. Fortunately for me I was the only one who managed to stay awake long enough to see Neil Armstrong set foot on the moon, a moment I will treasure forever. :):):):):):):):):):):):):):):):):):):):)

Bare feet on the ceramic tiled kitchen floor. Bliss. Only 30°C in the shade and that's here on the coast. Must be hell in the cities.

Maybe your car and its emissions are part of the problem?

I sleep with mine on every night in the summer, my bedroom is south facing and around 25c, mine cools the room down very quickly and then maintains the temp i set it at.

Well as you may know my mums been in hospital since July 11th.

A scan showed 2 masses/tumours in her heart.

Well on Monday she went to the heart hospital in Basildon.

Today the Dr said Basildon couldn't see anything wrong with her heart, and the dizziness she was getting could be a result of low blood pressure and so the stopped her blood pressure pills.

Then told her she could go home.

When she had this scan Hom3r who told her that the scan showed 2 masses/tumours in her heart?.

Not if the person doing the scan knows what they are doing l would say as l have had plenty of scans on my heart and it always confirms the thoughts of my consultant.

If there is a heart problem it should show up quite clearly on a scan unless there is a problem with the scanner or the person doing it is not a qualified scanner and got it completely wrong..

Just upgraded my lad’s laptop - it’s one of my old work laptops (Tosh R700-15X - 8 years old, but i5 chip so should still run fine); it had been running very slow recently, and it had corrupted sectors on the 320GB Hard Drive, and some corrupted system files.

I downloaded the latest Win10 release, ran various commands (Sfc /scannow and various DISM), then cloned the C: drive to a new 480GB SSD, swapped them over, and Robert’s your mother’s brother.

Improvements
Boot time - 5 minutes to 20 seconds
Log on time - 2-3 minutes to 5-7 seconds
Chrome web page - 30 seconds to 2 seconds
Word document - 1 minute to 3 seconds

It’s only got 4GB memory (2x2GB), so I’ll change that out for 2x4GB next month - only cost £60 (and my time) so far, and another £40 next month for the memory.

It's a portable unit like this one

I put the vent hose up a disused chimney and feed it through a sheet of cardboard and polystyrene taped to the fireplace to seal it. Rated 8,000 BTU, that's about 2.5KW

Came from B&Q a good few years ago.

Full tilt the fans and compressor make some noise but it's not too disturbing.

Re: The Happy Thought Thread Part 4

Looks good. I've been thinking of getting a portable unit.
