Why are there activation fee's. ? Why do they cost, what do they entail. ? Why does virgin need to charge them.

For new customers I can understand. But anyone else, obviously they are all ready "activated".

You guess is as good as mine, mobiles used to come with a connection charge

Without asking she said the monthly cost would be £101.11 (was expecting £120, wonder why this is?) £14.99 installation charge and no charge for the boxes.

I'd double check that, they won't give 2 new boxes for free, please checj

With installation date 7/2/17 8am to 1pm"

The monthly rate don't seem to have any discounts

I'm waiting to see what the order details say online tomorrow. I also bet self install will be available next month. They just want the extra cash right now of course. They know most people could easily do self install.

No the install at £40 does get taken off the amount

I know but to be honest don't think virgin are that generous . Even though I'm paying more I know I'm gwtting 2 boxes which is what I want. My luck would be the guy would turn up with 1

1 x V6 @ £49.95 (top tier)
1 x Activate Fee @ £14.99

Totals £64.94....maybe I'm getting paranoid now lol

I would all customers who have ordered 2 boxes to phone up and get a breakdown, you need £100 credit if got two boxes

My current VIP Package is £110.03

With Caller ID added and 2 x V6 boxes it will be £122. I have swapped out two VHDs boxes for 2 V6s so I guess the £10 is the difference in the monthly fees between the boxes.

One off fees have always been charged for TiVo (and the V+ HD box before it). So similar charges apply for the V6 box.

The activation fee was introduced last year (or early this year, can't quite remember) and is actually cheaper than the previous charges for Quickstart and/or Manned Install. Only if you can do Quickstart and choose not to is the charge more.

I've only used the online chat service, which is usually very good.
I'm at work so haven't been able to phone them, but I might give them a call when I get home.

Even if you are an existing customer, people still need to do work to give you a new box: Answering your phone call; ordering the equipment; sending out a man in a van.... They all need paying.

I know that. ;) The specific use of "activation fee" seems odd though.

Basically all they are doing is sugar-coating it. Into a few separate sub categories and "buzzwords", activation fee.. installation e.t.c

It all sounds better to the customer spread out is the thought!

Of course, definitely not only virgin who does it. ;)
