Re: The Happy Thought Thread Part 4
Maybe I should not be posting my thoughts as it may make look like I'm a bad person but I can't help feeling happy that my neighbour is her own worst enemy the only thing I feel bad about is the innocent people her actions affect.
Trust me somewhere deep down I know this should not be a happy thought but tbh myself and hubby are delighted that our neighbour is causing trouble again! This time it's with the guy two doors up from us who has the unfortunate position of sharing our neighbour. Anyway apparently two weeks ago she was outside at her car in the early hours with all the doors open including the boot playing really loud music (we heard nothing although we did hear of this through the grapevine) unfortunately she woke her other neighbour up and when he went to speak to her about the racket she was making she then became very abusive to him saying stuff like DON'T YOU SPEAK TO ME LIKE THAT! and I'm just back from my work, she is retired and has no job that we know off, then he said he would speak to her the next day in which he did needless to say it did not go well she said that he has parties all the time he does not by the way then she accused his friends being sick in her garden I don't know if this is true. He thought that was the end of it but a few day's went by and she approached him saying that she would appreciate it he could keep their disagreement just between them and what truly delights us is his reply to her I bet you do but no xxxxx I'm going to tell everyone. You made in where he stated our name lives hell so much so they took you to court and don't think for one minute that I will allow you to make my life hell the way you made their life hell, in which she replied that she would be making a complaint about the noise his car makes along with other allegations. Honestly hearing this was like deja vu the only difference being the music came from her house, the false allegations etc that only happened in her head. Don't get me wrong I do feel for him as I know only too well what she will do next and that is she will have one focus and that's to make his life a living hell. We have been asked if we could clarify what exactly went on with us in which we declined to comment on the only thing we said was it was an experience we would rather not comment on, I'm pleased to say that our other neighbours totally understand our predicament and respected our wishes at not wanting anything to do with this, saying this if he does get the police to her for any actions she may do I will speak to the police but tbh they know of her anyway. Oh what fun it is living beside someone who is a :sniper: as once she has you in her sights you better pray as she will make your life a living hell and that's a fact! Is it bad that I'm pleased she is now focussed on some other innocent person rather than us in where we both have something in common and the only crime we did is buying a house next door to her and is it wrong that we want nothing to do with her latest outburst as we know we could advise him so easily on what to expect? My view is been there done that, and with good luck will never be there again. |
Re: The Happy Thought Thread Part 4
Looking forward to spending the next 6 weeks with my youngest as he is now on his summer holidays.
I love our lazy day's together :) Wednesday we're having a small family gathering with my Dad and hubby's Mum to celebrate our eldest getting his new job, graduation and new house. I must say so far 2018 has been a really good year for my family. |
Re: The Happy Thought Thread Part 4
Sounds lovely! :) Mine will be having 3 weeks off shortly, and frankly i have no idea how we'll entertain him for that long... GL on 6 weeks! :D

Have a nice time den.
Mine is, after the absolute disaster that was last week, me and my coworker had our timesheets amended after I raised the dispute. Blinking nerve, we counted for over 5 hours and they tried to pay us less than 5. Nuh uh, not happening. So I disputed it for me and the coworker, and we have had our pay increased for the job. So yeah, feeling good about getting the pay we were entitled to. |

It's taken a few weeks but we finally caught Ratty sometime this morning, anyway he/she has been doubled bagged and disposed of, now the poison goes down. In the early hours of this morning, my eldest said he heard our rabbit thumping apparently rabbits do this to warn of danger.
Still, don't like the thought of killing any living creature but I also don't like the thought of them coming into my garden at night so needs must, sorry Ratty and friends but you need to go. Never in my wildest dreams did I ever think I would be posting this post and I do wonder just how many people have rats living near them well apart from the human kind :D |

Re: The Happy Thought Thread Part 4
My youngest is applying for part-time jobs atm while continuing to studies and I must admit I'm so proud of him as many of his friends get paid for staying on at school and get money from the government https://www.gov.uk/education-maintenance-allowance-ema £30.00 weekly.
Why am I proud because when I said to him that this was the benefit was for low-income families and he cannot get it due to our household income, he just said that's good that they get help not once did he say that's not fair and for that, I'm proud in fact I'm very proud of his attitude on who is entitled to this payment and IMO many can learn this non-judgemental view, needless to say, I'm also very proud he has decided to get a part-time job. His big brother drafted up a CV for him so he can apply for jobs and since yesterday he has applied for Home Bargains, Subway (which I hope he does get because of the rubbish pay they pay 16-year-olds) and Tesco. He managed to apply for Home Bargains and subway himself but Oh my goodness Tesco was a nightmare and I was worse than useless tbh as he had to upload his passport, letter from HMRC confirming his NI number so his big brother helped with that :) So now my youngest has a cracking looking CV for a 16-year-old thanks to his big brother plus tips on what to write as he is now adding that travel will not be a problem as he will be travelling So fingers crossed he will get something within the hours he is applying for, so far the job hours for his applications are Tesco Saturday & Sunday 13:00-18:00, subway is a 12 hour contract in where he put in the hours that would suit him, Home Bargains is Wednesday & Friday 16:00-20:00, Saturday 14:00-18:00, Sunday 08:00-12:00. I did laugh at subway's job title sandwich artist :D The Tesco job would be ideal for him IMO |

My eldest son and my Mum were extremely close and my Mum's passing hit him hard and last week he came to me saying that he wished his Granny was there to see him Graduate and he wanted to in some way include his Granny in giving his Papa his graduation picture, anyway after much thought and research he decided on a personalised Oak picture frame.
He has now bought a personalised oak frame for his Graduation photo which will read at the top To Papa Love Steven with a butterfly design at the side as everytime he see's a butterfly he remembers that during the summer when my Mum watched him both would sit for hours and watch the butterflies in her garden and my Mum would be in fits of laughter when he tried and failed to catch one. The butterfly design he has chosen is this. |

My youngest has his first job interview on Tuesday at 12-3pm it seems it will be a group interview and since his Dad, brother and I have no experience of a group interview we can't advise all we can do is hope he gets it.
One can only hope the interviewer takes into account that he is only 16 and has no experience at all in both interview and work. |

Good Luck to him Weenie
|
Re: The Happy Thought Thread Part 4
Thanks, nash he is quite excited tbh but at the same time not getting his hopes up (he is quite level-headed my youngest) I must admit the hours would be ideal as it's for Tesco weekend work, Saturday & Sunday 13:00-18:00 what we liked about these hours as his parents is the fact it will not interfere with his studying/homework plus the opportunity of overtime during the school holidays Christmas, Easter & summer etc where most need this time off to care for their children he is available if needed, hopefully, the store manager will see this point of view as a huge plus sign :)

Re: The Happy Thought Thread Part 4
Thank you, Tinky his big brother logged in to his Tesco-careers page and they went over things last night in where he discussed a lot in where he gave his little brother some examples of what may be asked and here are some questions with what my youngest answered.
Describe a time you have been put in a position of trust. At the cadets, I'm trusted with another cadet to do the tuck shop this duty is for senior cadets where trust has been gained as it entails handling money and letting our Squadron Leader know if anything needs to be bought for the tuck shop for the following week. Name a time a manager has introduced something you disagreed with, how did you react? I have no experience of this as this is my first time applying for a job but at my school, we got a new headmaster two years ago in where he applied a new rule in regards to when he walks into a class the pupils have to stand, while I don't agree with this I do it out of respect of my Head Master the way I see it his school his rules. Where do you see yourself in 5 years? Hopefully, I will be working in Tesco while studying at Uni. Describe a time you worked in a team to reach a target. At the RAF Cadets, we needed to raise funds we managed this in a variety of ways and what we did as part of a team was bag packing, 2 mile sponsored walk and selling raffle tickets by working as a team we quickly raised the funds we needed to keep our minibus running. (his brother has said do not say I did but refer to the answer as we did) Describe an example of good customer service. Good customer service is always being positive and willing to assist your customers to the best of your ability. Name a time you have been disappointed. When my best friend moved up to Aberdeen when I was 12, but we still stay in contact via the Xbox and calling each other plus when he comes down to visit family we always make time to catch up. All we can hope now is he remains calm tbh I have no worries here as my youngest is quite level-headed compared to his peers. ---------- Post added at 13:38 ---------- Previous post was at 13:27 ---------- Quote:
As my youngest has said if he does not the job at least it's experience which I think is a really good outlook on it. |

I should say when 'pretending the other people are your co-workers' I mean in a cheesy advert 'everyone is nice' sorta way and not start slagging off customers kinda way.

Just sitting outside the store now and my tummy is in knots, I really hope he enjoyed his 1st interview and with a bit of luck his 1st job offer all being well.
He was there 15 minutes early don't know if this is the norm but I just thought better to show up early at that way it shows he is keen. |
Re: The Happy Thought Thread Part 4
Update he does not think he has got the job as the lady who was interviewing him said if your not successful don't give up keep please keep applying as you made it this far and that alone is an excellent achievement for someone your age naturally this comment has now placed some doubt but overall he is delighted and said it was a great experience.
He was the youngest there and the closet to his age was a 19 year old. |

Re: The Happy Thought Thread Part 4
My niece "K" is still doing her strict diet, where she's eating more calores a week.
On Saturday we all went to Camden Market, but she had her own lunch box, and she did have a bad day with the amount of calories. While there my sister asked me if she could go on holiday with us as she cannot be trusted to stay at home on her own while her GF is at work, of course I said. So I phoned up the camp to make sure it wouldn't be an issue as its up to us if we want to put 5 people in a four person caravan. The only thing is my sister has to come on Thursday to take her home on Friday for her councilling. |
Re: The Happy Thought Thread Part 4
@ Jo thank you, overall his group interview lasted a whopping three and a half hours but he seemed to have enjoyed the experience. A very nice lady who is being made redundant from The Royal Bank Of Scotland seemed to have taken my son under her wing today and for that I'm truly grateful and for what my youngest has said about her we both hope that she is successful in getting the job at Tesco.
@ Tinky thank you and yes that is £21.60 well spent, in regards to your sore mouth I find this mouthwash fantastic for things like mouth sores etc. https://groceries.asda.com/product/s...h/910000392806 On a final note the pay shocked him when the group was told that should they be successful they would get £9.64 an hour so my son asked what his pay would be for under 18s and the lady said £9.64. |
Re: The Happy Thought Thread Part 4
Quote:
Thanks for that weenie. Wow £9.64 per hour is a fortune, how times change. When I first started work aged 15, I got paid £125 per YEAR i.e. £2.50 per week 9-5 Mon-Fri + 9-12 Sat morning. Didn't get paid for the two weeks the firm closed in July. Gave my Mum £2 and had 50p to spend, off which I had to pay my bus fare to work 12 1/2p per week, so 35p left for stockings and entry to the Palais de Dance. Happy days! :) Hope they get the job, keep us posted. |
Re: The Happy Thought Thread Part 4
I agree Tinky that is a really good pay for a 16-year-old and trust me I will be posting an update on the job front.
He has just applied to Asda but we have been told that Asda usually only employ 17-year-old but he just thought what the heck you don't try you don't get :) Now he know's the pay supermarkets give he really does not want KFC, Subway, or McDonald's but saying that if this is all he can get then fast food restaurants it will be. His exact words were this would do for now as this would give me the experience needed, customers, tills, and the working environment. |
Re: The Happy Thought Thread Part 4
I know me again talking about my youngest and his job hunt :)
Well no news as yet on Tesco interview but last night he received an email from Asda stating that his application was unsuccessful and I could not believe what he did, he phoned Asda this morning and asked why his application was rejected and what he could do better his chances and they replied that although he passed the online assessment the job he applied was on counter and you need to be 18 but they do employ 16-year-olds and have advised him to keep looking, they advised him if he see's a job as Ambient Store Colleague or Produce Store Colleague then this job would be suited to his age so he got some really good feedback from them and now know's that Asda takes on 16-year-olds. He is certainly on a mission as yesterday he went on the Home Bargains job log in page and printed off his CV and application form then got on his bike and cycled down to our local Home Bargains asked to speak to the manager and handed her the envelope containing this and you will never guess he has literally just got a phone call from our local store and he has been offered an interview tomorrow at 1 pm and IMO after the 3 and a 1/2 hour interview he had at Tesco this should be an easy one in comparison. The pay is totally different from Home Bargains as his pay would be £5.22 whereas Tesco is £9.62, both jobs would be ideal but the pay in Tesco swings it in my opinion tbh even though it's 12 miles away, therefore, he would be relying on us to take him which is not a problem in any way, whereas Home Bargains is only walking distance from both our house and his school so location would be ideal for him. These two jobs would suit him Tesco for the pay and Home Bargains simply because the location is ideal. He has asked me this morning if he get's offered both jobs what one should he take and I said Tesco, son but it's up to you. |
Re: The Happy Thought Thread Part 4
He got the job at Home Bargains:woot:
His induction day is on Tuesday 1 pm - 5 pm and he is delighted he will be working 16 hours split over 4 hours shifts. If Tesco gets back to him and offer him the job then I think he is going to take Tesco as it's fewer hours for more pay but that call is his and his alone whatever he decides we will be standing by him, at least he has a job and that's all that matters. I had a wee chuckle as he mentioned his pocket and would he still be getting it or would it now be stopped and being the big bad Mum that I am I said yes and no my exact words were now your working I'm going to half your pocket money to £10.00 a week are you ok with that and we both agreed this was a fair compromise. Hubby and I had already discussed the pocket money situation if he were to be offered a job and decided that since he will still be in school it would be wrong to totally stop it after all he is a good son who works hard in school and never gives us a spot of bother tbh. |
Re: The Happy Thought Thread Part 4
@ weenie. Pat on the back to number 2 son. :)
We told Peter that we expected him to contribute half his wages, from his first Saturday job in a Coffee Shop, to the household costs he actually believed us and handed over the money. That's when we realised what a thoughtful young man he had become. I will never forget the look on his face when we handed it back to him along with his normal pocket money. If we had known just how many tips he would get from all the old ladies who wanted to have him as a grandson we may have thought twice. Boy did he rake in the £s .:D |
Re: The Happy Thought Thread Part 4
Quote:
Oh my goodness Tesco has just called and offered him the job and he accepted, his induction is tomorrow morning at 9 am. Honestly, I'm sitting here with a huge grin on my face £9.62 an hour wow that's fantastic for a 16-year-old IMHO. Home Bargains 16 hours contract split over 4 hour shifts over a 7 day week = £83.52 Tesco 9.5 hours contract Saturday & Sunday 13:00 - 18:00 = £91.39 It really was a no-brainer really in what job he would take if offered between the two but as I have said the choice was his and his alone and IMO he made the right one as Tesco will not interfere with his beloved RAF Cadets (Monday & Thursday) evenings. He wanted to contact Home Bargains now but on the advice, his big brother has given him he will not be contacting Home Bargains until he has done the Tesco induction tomorrow this way he knows what his job will fully entail at Tesco. :cleader: :cleader: BEST NEWS EVER TWO INTERVIEW'S AND TWO JOB OFFERS THAT'S MA BOY :D :cleader: :cleader: |

Re: The Happy Thought Thread Part 4
My youngest loved his induction day and contract whereas I'm pleased he enjoyed his 1st day but this Tesco Flexi contract concerns me slightly and I have a niggling doubt about what he said his available hours are.
|
Re: The Happy Thought Thread Part 4
I have just phoned Home Bargains and spoke to the manager (Heather) explaining that my youngest cannot take the job and she is going to keep his induction day open tomorrow and if he does turn up then she will inform head office that he was offered another position at Tesco in which he accepted. The good news is she will not hold this against him should things not work out at Tesco and he has to let her know if and when he wants a job at Home Bargains she then went on to say that she know's him as he comes in the store some day's during his lunch break and that she finds him a well mannered and is always courteous as she said that she has a policy that school kids leave their bag at the door and that my son along with the group he runs about with was one of the few that did this without any backchat or problem, that made me feel good as a parent we don't really know what our kids are like with there friends all we can do is hope they remember what we have taught them and not bow down to peer pressure.
I have always said to both my boy's manners cost nothing and speak volumes and when out and about with your friends always act if I'm in earshot and can see you  In regards to Tesco I discussed my concerns with Heather and she said that is why she would only offer him a fixed part-time contract of 12 hours with the added agreement that during Exam time he only needs to do 8 hours she also agreed that he needs to remove Monday & Tuesday from the flexi contract with Tesco. At least he has not burnt his bridges with Home Bargains thankfully as I can see him working there if Tesco flings in our opinion too many additional hours to him. I suppose we will just have to wait and see if Tesco will allow him to remove Monday and Tuesday from his additional days if not and we feel his education is suffering or it's too much for him then we will discuss it with him as we will not allow his education to suffer we have not failed him as parent to date and don't intend to start now. Gosh being a parent is hard at times :( but thankfully always rewarding IMO :) |

Re: The Happy Thought Thread Part 4
@ Tinky thank you, he is at work atm getting trained on the tills and while there he going to ask if possible that his additional day's of Monday & Tuesday be removed as he needs day's to focus on his schooling, he is just going to be truthful and tell them that he never fully understood that he was basically contracting himself to these day's he just thought he was writing what day's and times he would be available for overtime when needed he did not know that by stating these day's he was committing himself fully to Tesco with no get out clause as this would become part of his contract.
My youngest got his exam results today and it's what we expected tbh he failed Biology & Graphic Communication no surprise it was subjects he was made to do and he really did them with no passion at all, in fact, he hated them so it was not a shock when he told us he would not be focusing on them as he saw them as a waste of his time as these two subjects have no bearing to his chosen career as a secondary school teacher. The subjects he wants to teach are Drama & Religious, Moral and Philosophical Studies. I did feel sorry for him today as he was really disappointed at getting a B in Religious, Moral and Philosophical Studies he thought he would get an A but knowing my son this will make him more focused to do better in Highers as his Mother I'm delighted and I personally think a B is fab. I did try and tell him that a B was a fantastic mark but he just said but Mum I'm capable of an A, I do feel he put's far too much pressure on himself at times and just wish he would not be so hard on himself tbh but he has been that way since he was a toddler he had to do it himself I remember he would accept no help in tying his shoelaces I don't know how many times he made me late by doing this lol and then God love him, 9 times out of 10 his dinner would be cold by the time he ate it as he wanted to cut his own dinner whereas his brother would always take the easy option and accept help. I think his Dad and I will be getting a tutor in to help with his Maths this year as this is his weakness but will need to ask him if he is ok with that, after all, we did this for our eldest as Maths was also his Achilles heel but with the help of a tutor he passed his higher and look where he is now in his dream job :) Drama National 5 award A English National 5 award A Graphic Communication National 5 award F History National 5 award B Religious, Moral and Philosophical Studies National 5 award B Mathematics National 4 award P Spanish National 5 award P |

Re: The Happy Thought Thread Part 4
My son spoke to his manager who arranged a meeting with the store manager and I'm pleased to say after looking at his application he has removed his additional days Monday and Tuesday, all's well that ends well :)
My son did say that the store manager was extremely understanding in regards to his education and has totally put his mind at rest, the manager also said that looking at his application he had made it crystal clear in his application that he will prioritise his education and as a company Tesco respects that, he also said that personally, he has never met a more focused 16-year-old in his life and bless my son he apologised for this and the manager said no son that's a compliment. |

Hubby bought me a new charm for my Nomination bracelet after many weeks of dropping hints I finally got it :D I really wanted this charm to represent my son and all his hard work as every charm on my bracelet has a story behind them.

Nice keepsake weenie. :) My happy thought, giving away tomatoes to the neighbours, far too many for our consumption. Especially pleased with the black Russian toms, even though most have splits. |

With those tomatoes Tinky it won't be long before you grow giant ones which you can enter in these local competitions.:)

Re: The Happy Thought Thread Part 4
Saved some money today as when I went to the opticians I asked about multi-focused contacts, I knew this would be more expensive but it looks this will not be needed in my case. I'm trying monovision with monovision, you wear a contact lens on one eye to correct your distance vision and a contact lens on your other eye to correct your near vision. The lens for distance vision is usually worn on your dominant eye.
Anyway, she said that I have a few options that could save me money brilliant I thought being Scottish this is right up my street :D and honestly I can't believe it as when she told me to remove my right contact while leaving my left contact in I could read without the need of glasses. I've to go back on Friday and tbh it is was quite strange at first and I have not driven yet but this has got me wondering if anyone else tried this monovision thing and if so what was your experience? All going well I have just halved my monthly prescription :) |
Re: The Happy Thought Thread Part 4
I just spent £670 on 2 pairs of varifocals, one pair being Rayban sunglasses.
Without discount it would have been £980. |

Did the market stall holder tell you they had UV400 protection and the same lens clarity as RayBans? I have 2 pairs of RayBans - 1 Aviator and 1 Wayfarers; I’ve had the Aviators 30 years (bought them in Dubai Duty Free on the way back from NZ), and the Wayfarers around 11 years, so they have cost, in total, around £4 per year for both pairs. I see that as good value - cost and value are two different things. A further example of cost vs value is 250 grams of mince versus 250 grams of 30 day aged Aberdeen Angus sirloin steak - at Aldi, the Scotch Aberdeen Angus beef mince is £7.18 per kilo, so that would cost you around £1.80, whilst the steak would cost you £4.49, or £19.78 per kilo; I'm having the steak*... *I really am - it's for my dinner on Tuesday when my wife is out meeting with a friend she hasn't see for a few months; medium steak with a peppercorn sauce, and thick cut chips, washed down with a large glass of Malbec or Shiraz (tbd) - yummmmmm |

(Ps. You really don't need to spend hundreds of pounds to get UV400 protection, and I stand by my previous post ! ) |
