Updated on 18th,Total war game playing up ever since, worked perfectly before No other problems surfaced yet.Not noticed many big changes to the operating system yet unlike say the IOS11 upgrade which gave you extra buttons and stuff.Maybe most of the changes to win 10 are below the surface.

Windows 10's "Controlled Folder Access" Anti-Ransomware Feature Is Now Live
https://www.bleepingcomputer.com/new...e-is-now-live/

With the release of Windows 10 Fall Creators Update last week, the "Controlled Folder Access" that Microsoft touted in June is now live for millions of users.

As the name hints, the Controlled Folder Access feature allows users to control who can access certain folders.

The feature works on a "block everything by default" philosophy, which means that on a theoretical level, it would be able to prevent ransomware when it tries to access and encrypt files stored in those folders.

I haven't seen the previous update yet. It says it's coming but can get early by clicking here. Still I mostly live in Linux land, Windows is for games and a couple of programmes not available in Linux.

You have use Windows Defender though, you can’t use another AV product and just select the Controlled Folders option. :(

One annoying problem with this update here is when you drag a window to the edge of the screen so it fills 50%, if you then drag it back it doesn't pop back into its original size, very annoying and i hope they fix it soon.

Edit

Just tried it again and it now appears to be working but it sure wasn't a few hours ago.

Trying to update the laptop. its now on its second attempt to install the update from earlier October. At the least the PC has settled and doesn't complain about running two copies of Outlook which it now has developed a habit of sometimes doing. Its even making think that Linux could be better. I would consider Apple apart from the extortionate price you have to pay.

This really must take the award for most stupid idea ever. What were Microsoft thinking of when they introduced the update system?

As it happens on its second attempt it worked perfectly. I wonder if it got muddled by the previous failed update and managed to eventually to do thing properly.

If you use a third party anti-virus and / or firewall check that Windows has not disabled it in preference to it's own essentials stuff. The last W7 update did that.
