If it is correct that BT want to overtake VM to become the second largest pay-tv provider. They aren't going to make that task any easier by making the BT Sports channels available to the masses on VM.

BT have already passed VM to become the largest fibre network. Sky's acquisition of Telefonica's fixed line / broadband service in the UK means that Sky will overtake VM to become the second largest broadband provider. The big players do seem to be attempting to force VM into third place in all markets.

BIB, Not sure if I am stealing another posters thunder here (if I am I apologize), but if all SS1,2,3,4 cancelled their subscriptions en masse, Sky would soon drop their charges. Alas, though, everyone will keep paying over the odds for football that used to be free-to-air on a Sunday, even though they have the power to change it.

What a sad state, and, era of televisual entertainment we live in:-(

The BT website suggests i'll be able to get 70mb down, 20mb up. These are great speeds with no limits, shaping or restrictions. I noted many parts of the UK won't be enabled until June. I think BT will be very noisy in July and August pushing deals for Infinity, You View and BT Sports. I think both Virgin and SKY will be watching carefully.

Once Infinity is rolled out will BT's fibre be the fastest truly unrestricted non-commercial broadband service in the UK? I honestly don't know the answer as I don't really follow broadband news.

Just a word of warning Bt are not the great panacea some people think they are. My daughter has had nothing but problems with BT since she started her business up nearly two years ago.

You must be joking. This has dates to 2015, and no mention of my exchange at all. A postcode search simply says "Status: Not currently in rollout plans".

As does mine , ADSL here for me by the looks of it , fibre through BT seems a distant dream.

How would the share holders feel? Surely dropping down to 3rd spot wouldn't have a positive effect on the share price.

Personally I can't see BT taking over Virgin as the second top pay TV provider. BT currently have about 3.1 million less TV customers than Virgin.

People moving from Freesat and Freeview to pay TV has stagnated over the past 18 months and shows no real sign of improving. It looks like BT will need to target Virgin and SKY customers directly to grow their own TV customer numbers. I just can't see millions of SKY and Virgin customers leaving to go to BT unless BT offer their services at ridiculously low prices.

What do you mean I must be joking? I posted the source of the information. If the source is wrong or inaccurate it's nothing to do with me.

Thanks for sharing a more accurate source.

A little optimistic perhaps. Although it was recently announced in the local press here that local exchanges will be upgraded in 2014. The last time I enquired there was no schedule for the upgrade. It does appear that BT are speeding up the roll out.

Probably not as VM don't have national coverage anyway. For marketing and investment purposes however, second place is always going to sound better than third.

Exactly, as I said, the fact that sports fans keep reaching further into their pockets is part of the problem.

We had BT Internet at work a few years ago and I would tend to agree with what you are saying.

LOL, yes I just read that. The roll out schedule in Spiderplant's link is quite useful, much better than the information readily available from BT.

This might help, search for your exchange by postcode, click on the exchange name and check your FTTC status under BT Wholesale Information.

Good point on the shareholders Chad but they will look at Liberty shares which analysts assume will go up by as much as 20 dollars on completion of the deal.

VM will drop to 3rd, however will Liberty advertise, join VM part of Europes largest broadband provider or will they re brand as VM in Europe where the brand is also well known through the megastores. Apparently there was uproar when the Paris branch closed recently.

The link you posted has no mention of "rolled out accross their whole network by the time BT Sports launches in August" as far as I can see. Where is that?

I tried Sam Knows, but sadly he doesn't.

I've a suspicion fibre will never reach here. It'll be overtaken by wireless technologies.

You've not quoted my full post:

"It looks like BT will have Infinity rolled out accross their whole network by the time BT Sports launches in August."

http://www.fibremap.bt.com/

The information available at the above website suggests almost all of the exchanges, apart from a small minority, will be updated by June 2013. BT Sports is expected to launch in August. We have since ascertained the information provided on the above website is not 100% accurate.

I don't think there was anything wrong with what I posted originally, I'm sorry that you do.

Let's get this thread back on topic. You're the inside man around here, the mole in the hole with all the latest content news. What channels have you guys been working on securing recently? Is there any truth that the ITV HD channels may be coming soon. Have talks started for BT Sports?

Ah, I see. I have no reason to doubt its accuracy, but it simply doesn't mention exchanges where there are no plans for the next few months. Moving on...

You've been here long enough to know I don't do leaks. But your last question is answered here
