i used to get that problem on my old laptop when i first upgraded to 20mbit, it would never download @ more then 10mbit on wifi it had to be on the ethernet to get full speed.

maybe try using another laptop/pc if you can, for me thats what did it. now im wondering if the same will happen when i upgrade to 30/50mbit

Thanks for the advice, but have spent a week now trying everything. I'm one of the unlucky ones I'm afraid. I borrowed a laptop from work, same outcome.. friend bought his laptop round, same outcome... PS3 is the same.

Even if I sit right next to the Hub, the signal and quality of wireless just doesn't improve.

I'm following the official VM forums everyday waiting for a fix...

for what its worth I just tested the wireless on my superhub, it connects at 150mbit and I get full 30mbit on speedtest's but I only get 3 or 4 bar signal strength with the laptop practically on top of my superhub whilst I get max bars from the router in another room 2 walls away. So does seem weaker.

I have just upgraded to the 30Mb and I must admit the DOCSIS3 is not much better then the older network- the speed drops off just the same, infact on occasion the upload is faster @ 3mbps than the download.

+1

Noticed last night after a few wireless drops outs that the signal strength had dropped to just 2 bars, and Mrs Pabs' laptop was lagging even though just 2 metres away.

Only when I placed the lappy next to the hub did the strength go up to 100%.

However I have also noticed a lot of wireless networks in my area, all fighting for supremacy which I think is the main cause of my issues with it, they appear to spike/burst in strength which in turn effects the strength on the superhub.

One quick question, will turning off WPS have any disadvantages given I have no reason to use it.

Re: [Update] ALL 20>30Mb upgrade discussion

My area is saturated with wifi - I can see 10+ networks at various times of day. Rather than plot which channels they were all on (some of them hop around) I just banged the Superhub onto 5Ghz. Problems solved.

I then hung an old G access point off the back of it for legacy devices. So I've got really reliable wireless for the laptops, and backwards compatibility for phones and the like which if they drop out, doesn't really matter.

Re: [Update] ALL 20>30Mb upgrade discussion

I'd like to be able to go down the 5Ghz route, however my wireless N devices are all 2.4 Ghz sadly.

Its not the end of the world though as I too could use my old router as an access point if needs be.

Its just I like the less cluttered approach of having an all in one unit.

Well good, maybe this more conspicious bad press will grease the wheels and get a bridge mode update out. Or better still, convince VM to concurrently stock Super Hubs and VMNG300s.

In fact, why not do a litmus test and register both on the customer's account, see which one gets the most use? Money's NOT on the Super Hub, fellas... ;) :D

You can only have one modem registered on an account at any one time, plus if you had both then both would be used as it would be stupid not to use them.:D

Looks like I'm going to be staying on XL 20Mbit forever. Even if they do sort out the bridge mode something tells me there will be other problems.

I also have a concern about the power usage even with bridge mode.
