Used Acrylic Wi Fi Analyser and noticed VM7269205_EXT broadcasting. Could this be a VM hotspot?

No - the VM hotspot advertised as Virgin Media WiFi

A superhub broadcasts a VM SSID by default unless you change it.

SH1 virginmediaXXXXXXX

SH2 VMXXXXXX-2G

She has the -2G one, the -5G one and then one just listed as Virgin Media.

There are no other wireless networks in this area.

Are you sure it's not a neighbour's?

If I go into wifi on my iPad, I can see my 4 wifi, and 2 x O2 and 1 x VM from my neighbours - and I live in a detached house.

If I turn off her SH2 no networks show up at all, so I'm sure.

Re: FAQ on Virgin Media's WiFi Sharing

VM have confirmed that the v2.01.03 SH2 firmware is being withdrawn on the grounds that field trials (i.e. the area roll-outs for the WiFi trials) have not passed the standard necessary for general release.

You may recall that this was a "base code" rewrite. VM said at the time that this was to handle the additional public WiFi service flow.

The unintended consequence was the modem mode problem as discussed on these forums. It is not known if there was any other concrete problem and Windows 10 has clouded forming a view on this.

Hopefully they can fix the firmware issue, was really looking forward to having a good source of out and about wifi.

Perhaps so, but if the price increase was going to come anyway... at least I'm getting something for it. If it's say £2 as you suggest, I can live with a x2 increase for that amount.

How about " you can keep your speed increase and KEEP MY BILL THE SAME"?

The SSID is just "Virgin Media".

Encryption is WPA2 - Enterprise.

Users login with a username and password, directly - as per standard WPA2 - Enterprise. It does not redirect you to a web page to log in.

My question is - does Virgin Media public WiFi log you out after a certain time?

I think BT WiFi logs users out after two hours?

Because the operational part of VM public WiFi had not been turned on, there was nothing to log you out.

If you mean to ask when it does go live, will there be a session period (lease time), unless BenMcr knows, I don't but I'll ask. The briefings of which I was aware did not mention this.

According to the VM email they sent out (18th Aug), they only have two weeks left to get it all working. ;)
