Here in the Leicestershire area it is snowing and then it stops, and then it starts again. It isnt settling down and its depressing as I was soooo wanting to find a metre thick spread of snow in my garden this morning.

Proper stuff here this morning, over 5 inches deep, I am snowed in, and it is still snowing, can't see me getting out today.

Okay. A small group of us want to get some ski-touring practice this weekend.

Anyone know of any open moorland with a good covering of snow (and, preferably, few rocks too!) somewhere within striking distance of Warrington and/or Halifax?

Dovestones on the road out of Greenfield, Saddleworth has all of that. Large parking area close to Dovestones reservoir.

Signposted on the right off the A365 Holmfirth Rd about a mile from the centre of Greenfield.

A635 surely... is that still open or has it fallen victim to the snow?

It's freezing here as well, snow's gone except on north-facing slopes as far as I can tell but it's still falling...

Snow's cool but the low temperatures isn't. I've seen so many snowmen :)

 Loads of snow just up the road, in fact stuck my head out of the front door about 10 mins ago and it's like a blizzard.

I am so not looking forward to driving down south tomorrow, thinking about maybe flying or getting the train instead :erm:

From the news reports one would have been forgiven for thinking that a huge swathe of the country was to be affected.I suspect that at least 3/4 of the working population got to work this morning because the reality was that only three areas were that deeply affected.

Yes, you are correct, my fingers were frozen when I typed that after digging out the car.

It has not stopped snowing all day here, I did manage to get out and only a few miles away in Middleton it was raining. The temp at the moment is just above freezing so none of todays snow has stuck, I would guess that the Holmfirth Rd will be cleared at the bottom end but by then so will most of the snow.
