So, with the Aussies going well who do you want to win, India, Australia or are you in the couldn’t care less camp? :D

Much as it pains me to see the Aussies win anything I am in their corner. The way the Indians have steam rollered the rest of world cricket financially in recent times is not good for the game in the long run.

Looks like TNT have got the India/England test series. https://www.telegraph.co.uk/cricket/...98a9b09aa8c2d8
Always seems to be last minute with India tv rights, waiting to see who'll blink/pay the most . Maybe the Indian board did when they realised nobody might take it. |

Playing only 1 fast bowler? It's not as if our spin options are any good.

Interesting weather forecast for the next Test.
https://www.bbc.co.uk/weather/1272832 Sleet and 1c on the first day, why are they playing in the himalayas? Bit like Headingley in April. |

Strictly not English cricket but I didn't want to start a thread for a quick question. I am down at my brothers in Surrey after my immensely enjoyable trip to Wembley yesterday. He is watching the IPL Finals so I had to watch as well. Can anyone tell me what the little 'tree' symbols that change to dot balls and back to trees on the onscreen graphics are supposed to symbolise?

T20 WC, has started of with USA v Canada in Dallas. Bizarre.
A lot of swinging, missing and a very confused crowd.... |

There are more people on the pitch than in the stands for the first West Indies game. The stands are deserted.
PS. Perhaps time for a new 2004 cricket thread? ;) |

Windies getting blown away after having a decent three and a half days.
Totally random question here. Why has Ben Stokes got the IG logon on his left arm and the Cinch logo on his right. All the other players are the other way round, captains prerogative?? |

The last seven England wickets show the limitations of ‘Bazball.
Not a single lbw, bowled or caught behind or in the slips. Seven headless chicken swipes at the ball. It’s either overconfidence, arrogance, incompetence or a mixture of all three.:( |

Does anyone know if DirecTV used to show these games for FREE?? Alot of times I just got it and I didnt order it... It was often in the 100s which were all PAY PER VIEW channels.... Did they me$$ up or did they give it free to all??? |
Re: English Cricket
If ever there was explanation why the Ashes are devalued, its a series a Aus Eng 20/20, ODIs crammed into September for no good reason but money.
See the Aussies have brought their jumpers, very wise. |

This test score is getting silly now, Pakistan so desperate to make sure they didn’t lose prepared the biggest ‘shirt front’ of a wicket that I have ever seen. If England do force a win on this carpet it will be an amazing achievement.

What is going on with Test cricket, New Zealand thrash India in India, India hammer Australia in Australia and now England off the back of an underwhelming tour of Pakistan are all over New Zealand in New Zealand?

Re: English Cricket
This pitch in New Zealand looks really weird to me. Has the whole of the outfield been dyed? Very noticeable from the aerial pictures, the square is very green compared to the outfield which has a darkish blue/green tinge to it.

Re: English Cricket
Test cricket is the best format of the game by far, even when you lose. Let's hope India now has some coverts to it .
Now for the '100' sleep fest  |
Re: English Cricket
It has been a cracking series, just a pity it was squeezed in length to fit the awful Hundred in. Bowlers on both sides suffered due to short turn around and Stokes may not have burnt out with longer rest between games. They are going to change the name of the Manchester Originals to the Manchester Super Giants to reflect (appease) the new franchise owners. Also rumoured they hope to change it to a T20 competition. Lancashire like all the counties will be playing in the 50 over cup shortly. They will lose 15 1st choice players to the damned Hundred.
|
Re: English Cricket
Whats wrong with "The Hundred" ?
I generally find it (and T20) to be more exciting. Test cricket is mostly really dull (with exceptions of course). |
Re: English Cricket

‘Real’ cricket aficionados appreciate and understand the subtle nuances of 4/5 day cricket. The toss and the decision to bat or bowl. The condition of the wicket that can and usually does alter over a few days. The ability of a batsman to build a long innings and not have to throw the bat as soon as he comes in. The skills of the bowlers who are not restricted to 4 or 5 overs so have time to work out plans for each batsman. The weather conditions that can also change to affect the outcome. If you want a McDonalds type of cricket then the Hundred is for you. If you prefer fine dining, some classy wine and an espresso with a mature cognac then only test cricket will suffice. ;) |

Re: English Cricket
Tried again with the 100. Its just tedious meaningless crap. Teams with no identity, no proper scores, Bairstow playing for 'Welsh fire'.. No Test matches again this summer to accommodate it. Its mainly for footy fans who have better things to do now the seasons started. .
My son's bought tickets for Headingley next week, I'll desperately try and be grateful ;) |

Re: English Cricket
The Ashes is always a tough tour, particularly if you're in the UK and want to watch it. The players have it easy.
1st Test - 2:30 to 9:30 am. Just about doable if you can get a early night, although the temptation for lightweights is to join after lunch at 5:10am 2nd Test (day/night) 4:30am to 11:30am - should be a doddle if the alarm clock works Her indoors might not be happy about the early start though. 3rd Test 12am to 7am - incredibly difficult. Do you sleep before or during the intervals or in the morning? Or a bit of each? 4th Test ( Boxing Day) 11:30pm to 6:30 am. This is the killer. Still fuelled from Xmas day the first session should be ok, but after that a lot of black coffee is needed. 5th Test (New Year ) 11:30 to 6:30am On the face of it, a killer again, but if you survived the previous Tests your body will be on Aussie time by now... Hopefully England will lose these Tests in 2/3 days as usual, which will make things a lot easier :) |
Re: English Cricket
No probs keeping awake durung Day 1 of the Ashes, 19 wickets in 1 day. At this rate the 1st Test will be over by tomorrow!
One thing I find is how delayed 'live' sport is on cable. DAB BBC5LX TMS radio was 18 seconds ahead of TNTs coverage. Managed to sync using a delay button on my radio as the tv commentary is crap. These delays will be longer if everything is streamed. |
Re: English Cricket

TNTs Ashes coverage was strictly non league in its standard. |
Re: English Cricket
Worst England defeat ever. Went from winning to losing within half an hour. Yet they seem determined to learn no lessons and play 20/20 whatever.
On the bright side, I've just gained 3 nights sleep :) |
