Re: UHD on Virgin Media
After a break of several months, there are now three series in UHD on BBC iPlayer which are switching to HLG on the V6 box on compatible tvs. The football test is also back.

Wasn't 2020 just for UHD channel, not HDR?
|
Re: UHD on Virgin Media
Now that it's been announced that the Premier League and EFL Leagues will start on September 12th, perhaps there will be an announcement that Sky UHD will finally launch?
|
Re: UHD on Virgin Media
Sky Sports UHD on VM was meant to be 2020 - HDR on Sky Sports UHD on Sky platform is 2021.

Re: UHD on Virgin Media
Now that the play offs are settled,I'm sure that once they've thrashed out which games Sky and BT are showing there will be an announcement in a blaze of glory.
|
Re: UHD on Virgin Media
Just thinking that it will be the Charity Shield 2 weeks today. Hopefully, this could be the first game to be shown from Sky UHD as Virgin like to promote these sort of curtain raisers so here's hoping that an announcement will be imminent.

Re: UHD on Virgin Media
never really got the whole excitement about UHD. Sometimes i forget i'm watching an SD channel rather than the HD version. HD is a major step up from SD naturally but i just can't see the further improvement of UHD whenever i see it on. "its sharper", "it has more colours..." not really that exciting!

If the so called 'leaked fixtures' are real,Man Utd v Arsenal would make a good first match on Sky Sports UHD,

Re: UHD on Virgin Media
Now that the real fixtures have been released, Liverpool v Leeds would be a good first Sky UHD game on Virgin.
C. Palace v Southampton - Sept 12 Fulham v Arsenal - Sept 12 Liverpool v Leeds - Sept 12 Tottenham v Everton - Sept 12 West Brom v Leicester City - Sept 12 West Ham v Newcastle - Sept 12 Brighton v Chelsea - Sept 14 Sheff Utd v Wolves - Sept 14 Burnley v Man Utd - Postponed Man City v Aston Villa - Postponed |
Re: UHD on Virgin Media
It's likely that those who were thinking that Sky UHD would be brought in with the football season rather than in August were right.

What's the chances that Sky Sports on VM will do away with SD at the same time UHD is introduced? Everyone has HD capable boxes, Sky Cinema already went HD-only.

Would be great to see a linear channel. A sure fire sign that UHD has moved beyond niche and into the mainstream.

The wording of the announcement (as I remember it) implied was that it was something that wasn't currently available via their own satellite service at the time of the Press Release. |

"As part of the extended deal, Sky’s stellar line up of entertainment, cinema and sports channels will continue to be available on Virgin Media’s TV platform, with Virgin customers set to enjoy new Ultra HD linear and additional video-on-demand content from Sky next year." I guess that could be be interpreted as Red Button UHD, but if I was writing a press release to convey that that's not the way I'd phrase it, even if I was told to not to give too much specific detail. That ambiguity sounded like a proper channel back then, to me, and the extended delay made it seem to me like it was referencing a service that Sky hadn't launched yet, as if it was simply the existing UHD Red Button it would have launched at the start of the year. Makes no difference to me ultimately as I don't have Sky premium channels or a UHD TV, I'm simply interested in tech. |
Re: UHD on Virgin Media
To mean this sentence reads - they 'planned' to bring UHD to VM in 2020 - not they will bring UHD to VM in 2020
"Plans to bring Ultra HD programming to Virgin Media from next year" The publicity text itself is not so vague - but Sky are notorious for announcing and not delivering. |

I still don't think there will be a 24hr linear channel more than likely UHD Sport will be accessed how it currently is on Sky with everything else available On Demand.

Lets not forget that often VM also launch channels/services without any publicity until AFTER the launch leaving customers to discover it by themselves.
|
Re: UHD on Virgin Media
I won't be very happy if it's not going to happen as I recently renewed my Oomph package on the basis of Sky UHD coming to Virgin as they said last year.

Re: UHD on Virgin Media
New to Virgin TV Ultra HD tonight at 9pm, the American comedy Loudermilk.
As with a lot of the programmes on Virgin TV Ultra HD, it will be available to watch on 999 for XL / Full House only then in Catch Up for all customers. |

I notice when doing a search on the V6 for some Sky Originals they are marked as UHD but they do say HD on the info bar.

The sports that have benefitted from HD the most, in my experience, are tennis, golf and cycling, but HD is enough for the wide variety of sports I watch. I find frame rate more important, and that's only really an issue when it comes to streaming. I've had to stream my football club's matches and mirror them to my TV over the last month or two and the smoothness, or lack thereof, was noticeable even though the picture quality was fine. I'm getting off topic though, and everyone's preferences and entertainment priorities are different. |

I seem to remember that during the announcement last year, they said there will be an impovment in the streaming quality from Sky.
Tonight I have had updates on my ipad for the Sky Sports app and also for the Virgin Go app so that could be a good sign. |
