The FA will vote whether to ban players for diving after a game and are expected to go ahead with the plan.

The MLS have this system in place, it's about time we had it too.

He does have a point though, we have all seen players booked incorrectly for diving. And what happen to the players club if he is found guilty of diving and the penalty he was awarded results in them winning the game. Do they get the points deducted?

Now that would really help to cut it out big time.

They won't change the result of a game or get points deducted IMO Jim as its the player that will be penalised.

Managers will sharp get sick of their players vanishing for important games because they flopped.

Leicester City were just destroyed at home. Harry Kane lighting it up for Spurs, but never for England of course.

Arsenal 1-0 up and down to ten men with most of the game still to play.

Liverpool 0-0 Boro. Liverpool are battering Boro though, it's a matter of time here. Liverpool are pushing so far up that the odd counter attack might come here.
- Arsenal go 2-0 up.
If Liverpool choke given the position Arsenal were in just a handful of games ago it'd be a miracle turnaround I think.

Done and dusted as Liverpool go 2-0 up. 3-0 Liverpool.

Re: Football Season 2016/2017

Realistically, what odds Wenger staying at Arsenal after next Saturday? From what I've been reading in the press this last 48 hours the board are split down the middle as to whether Wenger should be given a new deal or not, with majority shareholder 'Silent' Stan Kroenke in favour of him staying. Apparently, Chips whatever his name is is ineffective in his role at the club, and Chief Exec Ivan Gazidis doesn't get on with Wenger at all.

Putting aside my feelings about Arsenal, personally if he HAS split the board like that, he has alienated a large section of the fan base and looks like some of the players have stopped playing for him; he needs to leave. He should have gone a few seasons ago, sticking to the maxim better to go out at the top. As far as I can see, him being given a 1 or 2 year contract will only appease fans if Arsenal deliver a league title. Without major investment in the playing squad, I cannot see that happening anytime soon.

That it's easier for a club like Celtic to pursue a treble when they're in a league setup that's far less competitive. It's not a dig at it, it's just the way it is, isn't enough money involved to push those behind Celtic up to that level to constantly compete. Naturally that only got worse with the demise of Rangers.

It is competitive. The other teams do try, however the other teams just aren't as big or well funded. Also Brendan Rodgers was a great selection for Celtic Manager.

Great winning the treble on the 50th anniversary of the Lisbon Lions fantastic win in 67. The first UK and Scottish team to win the European Cup.

'Referee had a great game'. He gave a team a free goal.

Either the BBC are hell bent on protecting referee's or just haven't got the balls to call out an awful decision. He sent Moses off and apparently that made up for the monumental cock up of awarding a team a goal that was a) Offside and b) delivered via a handball. :erm:

Ramsey very clearly interferes with the play, in fact he takes nearly 4 strides and goes to Volley the ball before stopping, baring in mind he's barely 8 yards from the net against a keeper that has then set himself for the Volley.

By FIFA's own laws, Ramsey was

Quote:

clearly attempting to play a ball which is close to him when this action impacts on an opponent or
making an obvious action which clearly impacts on the ability of an opponent to play the ball
There's literally no argument. If Ramsey is heading off on his bike then it's fair game, he's not though, he's playing the ball. It's not even a hard decision to call, the linesman got it right instantly.

I don't begrudge the Arsenal win, Chelsea were pants before and after that decision. I'm just absolutely oblivious to what the referee has used to justify overturning a pretty simple decision.

Damien 27-05-2017 19:55

adzii_nufc 27-05-2017 20:03

Re: Football Season 2016/2017

There's confusion because of tabloid FIFA rules brought up:

Quote:

at the moment the ball is played or touched by a
team-mate
They're omitting the team-mate part for whatever reason, just the usual cack though like the Mirror etc.

There's two separate reasons but I'm not begrudging them the win, it happens. It's more annoyance at the BBC saying the blokes had a cracking game. Then Ref's doing their utmost to protect it. Naturally there's been incidents in the past and we're supposedly ridding ourselves of criticism towards refereeing but if it isn't called out when it's wrong, how do you learn for the future.

In their opinion he's had a cracking game because he's sent Moses off for diving. Which in turn was indeed hilarious but two big decisions with a 50% ratio for the ref. As for the Handball, I think it is but I wouldn't be dead set on it either, it's an unnatural position but it happens rather quickly.

The biggest question of the day is really whether this is the end for Wenger or what?

Arthurgray50@blu 27-05-2017 21:52

Re: Football Season 2016/2017

It always make me laugh when people sing and dance about Celtic winning the treble.

Celtic do NOT have any strong competition in Scotland. If you took Celtic and Rangers out of Scottish football. It would collapse.

I said on this forum about 18 months ago, that when the season starts - give them TWO titles. One for the league and one for the Scottish Cup. And them challenge all the others in Scottish football to take it off them - there wouldn't be anyone, except Rangers, and at the moment they are playing rubbish.

This is why Tv companies wont invest a lot of money in Scottish football.

I used to watch a few games in Scottish Football, and it looked as though the ground was half empty.

Brendan Rodgers certainly took on a good job of winning titles, he will win them every year with Celtic.

Every season all the chairman of EPL clubs get together, the discussion comes up about Celtic and Rangers joining - not the rest of Scottish Football - just Celtic and Rangers join us in England. And it gets turned down.

This is not a dig at Scottish Football, its the truth. Money speaks, and sadly, money wont het invested

Quite relaxed about that TBH. If they get that sort of money for him 12 months after almost accepting about half that then it is a good deal for me.

He is a fantastic keeper, the Spanish numero uno, but we also have the Argentinian number 1 and the soon to be Portuguese number 1 at the club.

As are a few of Juventus' players, keep an eye on him, the commentators are calling the foul right but ignoring the way he's deliberately running through the line of sight and launching himself at players for the foul, it shouldn't be any different than diving really... Juventus' are dying to get a Madrid player sent off here, whilst themselves lunging into challenges.

Actually finding it hard to remain neutral here.

The Ronaldo show. Juventus have been shocking so far in the second half. Wouldn't think they were in the final.

Hate Madrid, not worthy champions of Europe or Spain at all.

I remember in 2012 when Chelsea's performance was labeled embarrassing. That second half Juventus performance was up there. Literally sat back waiting for it.

Bar a handful of players. Barcelona are the leading club for home grown talent. The key midfield that was rampant in Europe of Messi, Xavi and Iniesta were produced by themselves.

Sergio Busquets
Pedro Rodriguez
Cesc Fabregas
Victor Valdes
Carlos Puyol
Gerard Pique

They literally set the standard in Europe for home grown talent and are the elite producers having won numerous European and domestic trophies with more home grown players than any other team in Europe. Manchester United coming second.

Same. It's one of these rare times I've literally seen this lad throughout his Newcastle career. Compared to Michael Essein at one point and having rejected bids of upwards £20million. Absolutely gutted. That goal against Arsenal, I have a few shirts with his name still gracing the back. At one point he really was the up and comer defensive midfielder of the league before it fizzled out, largely down to his surrounding players at the club.

Again I'm genuinely gutted. 30 years old. An absolutely outstanding Newcastle player during the majority of his time here and worshipped by fans alike. He's another that ended up getting Jonas'd really (See Jonas Gutierrez incident)

Its fine. We got the embarrassing performance to go with the embarrassing managerial appointment.

Gareth Southgate as England manager has really shown the actual interest in the job now. Next in line, Joe Kinnear or better yet David Moyes.

Also note quite a few of Scotland's first team starters were actually out... Just to add to that embarrassment.

From losing to Iceland to scraping a point from Scotland. The mighty England team of Shoulda woulda coulda's

Re: Football Season 2016/2017

As a team they're overrated, as individuals they're good players. It's England's inability to actually play as a team that's ruined them. Not a single player is on the same page as the next. Teams like Spain, Brazil, Germany, France etc all have far superior team cohesion than England do.

If you stuck all 11 England players in the same Premier League squad for a season, they'd perform far better in international football the season after. Obviously that's never happening so onwards to the World cup of racism in which we can be overran by Algeria and Gareth Southgate resigns and we appoint someone that's barely even mediocre.. because any of that is unfamiliar
