Sky Cinema Star Trek will broadcast from July 18th to July 24th on Virgin UK Channel 404.

From July 25th Sky Cinema Greats will reappear on Virgin UK Channel 404.

Sky - Spike +1
Freeview - 5USA +1 (UK Wide) with 5Star +1 launching on Freeview HD
Virgin Media UK - Spike

It wasn't a prediction, I wouldn't like to guess which channel they may or may not axe. 5USA +1 was only offered as an example as they previously axed 5* +1.

Viacom is adding extra channels such as VIVA +1 and 5STAR +1 to Freeview (DTPS licences issued by Ofcom) but there's no confirmation of where they are going. There is quite a lot of spare capacity on Freeview for very limited hours during the day. It's possible that Viacom may be joining the other EPG squatters on Freeview and adding channels for a few hours in an attempt to gain better EPG slots. I guess we'll find out fairly soon.

If they add channels full time, they may also want to add them on VM, again, we'll find out eventually.

5* +1 was axe by Channel 5 old owners for Channel 5 +24 to launch on Sky and Virgin Media UK.

But when Viacom took over they axe BET +1 for 5* +1 to relaunch on Sky.

What have Viacom axe since Channel 5 takeover (Base on info we seen happen on Sky)?

-BET +1 was axe for 5* +1 to relaunch.
-MTV +1 was axe for Spike TV to launch.
-MTV Live SD was axe for MTV Music +1 to launch.
-MTV Live HD was axe for Nick Jr. HD to launch.

BT sports is staying in XL for the foreseeable future.

Thanks for sharing the info.
Sky Sports Mix puts pressure on BT to up its "game" on its Showcase channel. It will be interesting to see if BT does improve this extremely part-time channel.

I would imagine that one result of another Sky Sports channel launching is that BT and VM/Liberty may want to mop up the remaining independent sports channels for themselves.

Only BIKE, Boxnation or Premier Sports is independent.

Do Liberty own 20% of Eurosport*?

VM are in the ideal position imo regarding sports as both SKY and BT seem happy to do business with VM, yet SKY and BT don't like doing business with each other, something for VM to ponder on.

However if it's on XL then happy days :-) although would worry that it could be a precursor to VM dropping BT Sport from XL.

There is no connection between Sky Sports Mix starting on VM and the BT Sport wholesale deal.

It's not replacing any Sky Sports channel, it's a "barker" channel which is there to promote Sky Sports subscriptions. Therefore, there would be no point in it being there for existing Sky Sports subscribers. Expect to see it in packs M+ upwards, ie to anyone who gets the Sky Entertainment channels.

Not looking hopeful for it to be joining VM (or satellite) at this point in time. No licence to broadcast on either platform was requested when they applied for the DTT licence :(

Maybe they intend to see how it works out on Freeview first before expanding onto other platforms??

COM7 is full, there's enough room for a few audio channels but that's about it. COM8 only has the QVC HD timeshares but Arqiva seems to have been reluctant to add other channels. Arqiva and the BBC have a new agreement to provide additional BBC RB channels on COM8 for the Olympic Games, so perhaps they are now starting to open up COM8 to other broadcasters. How much space remains on COM8 depends on how much space Arqiva has agreed to make available to the BBC.

There are several part-time slots available on the other COM multiplexes, if Viacom are only looking for EPG squatting slots, these would be ideal. They seem to be obtaining licences for +1 channels at the moment, if they have obtained extra capacity and want to operate full time channels, it would make sense to make VIVA and 5USA +1 full time rather than adding new services.

It's also possible that Arqiva could follow SDN's lead and squeeze an extra video channel onto COM5 and COM6 at the expense of video quality, maybe Viacom could be interested in one of these. It will be interesting to keep an eye on Viacom's moves on all platforms.

Our Sources has also given us new information on things set to happen before 2017 - But as of right now info was given under an Do Not Post order.

I think that Sky are feeling the effects of competition for sports subscribers, particularly in the UK.

Sky Sports News was originally on Freeview. I assumed that this was to be used as a shop window for their premium sports channels, so was surprised to see them take it off Freeview.

Moving back to the present day and Sky Sport News in Germany is shortly going to drop encryption on all platforms to enable them to showcase their premium sports channels!

In the UK, instead of making Sky Sports News FTA again, they have chosen to let lower level subscribers have access to actual content.

Yes, it will be interesting to see what Viacom do.

Perhaps Arqiva didn't want to lease the capacity until the end of the Olympic Games all along, to ensure that there would be enough capacity for the TV streams??

I don't know. Arqiva is a business and exists to make a profit. It's unlikely that they have been turning down potential customers for months just to keep the capacity available for a short term event.

With regards to the German FTA service, it would be pleasing and would make sense to make SSN HQ FTA again on Sky, FView and FSat.

Also, Sky1 is showing the opening day of The Open golf tomorrow (if anyone is interested). Furthermore, Sky1 occasionally shows premium sports content by simulcasting the Sky Sports channels.

I'm very much more confident about VM's TV proposition now they have appointed someone to look after it, David Bouchier. Before his appointment, I shared peoples' scepticism. The appointment to fill the chasm showed that we were right to be sceptical back then.

Imagine how many times you must have typed "No News..." over that time period.

Isn't that how negotations work? One company sets the terms for it's products the other company either accept the terms, negotiate or reject the terms, i don't like SKY one bit but if vm want the channels then they pay it's as simple as that. Likewise when VM get content (and it is happening) if BT or SKY want it then they either accept VMs terms, negotiate or reject them.
However in my opinion SKY Atlantic isn't all that anyway i've only watched Ray Donovan and Game of thrones on it and i can get those shows via my xfinity login and vpn anyway.

The fact that no one apart from Sky offers Sky Atlantic suggests that it's deliberately priced out of viable reach of VM, TalkTalk and the Irish platforms. And that's Sky's prerogative.
I agree VM may do the same with some of its content acquisitions. Ironically, VM has sold Red Rock from its TV3 subsidiary to the BBC and the series is now airing on BBC1 week days.

That's not really how negotiations work. If there was a market for Sky Atlantic, a price point would have been negotiated which VM and other providers would have been willing to pay. The supplier and customer negotiate a price point somewhere between their expectations. The fact that this hasn't happened suggests that Sky doesn't actually want to make Sky Atlantic available to other providers.

Sky have every right to withhold Sky Atlantic from VM but doing so doesn't suggest that they are "happy to do business".

Personally i use a vpn with xfinity can't remember last time i used a uk sub service (no max not a submarine :p: ).
VM certainly seem to be getting their act together i shall monitor their content gain with interest if they continue to improve i may even return to vm (yes Den you read it right :p: ).
Imo SKY needs someone to take them on big time BT have already started doing this sports wise maybe VM will be the ones to do it content wise? only time will tell.

Are they used in the same way that Post Office lines were used to switch ITV around the country in the days of the ITA/IBA?

I'm intrigued as to the reasons channels are kept off the EPG.

I guess it's no different to satellite services used merely for distribution not being on the Sky/Freesat EPG's eg Instore radio, news feeds etc.

Not any more. Telewest used to carry some private channels, but all business TV services were dropped soon after VM was formed.

We'll probably get Atlantic once game of thrones is over. This obsession over this rather strange dungeon and dragons like story but with some skin thrown in utterly surprises me.

Sky are using it to drive subscriptions "omg you can only see game of thrones with sky!!1" and honestly must think this will help them. Little do they know it just pushes people to get the program in other means...

Which is a crying shame for all those who would like a straight forward HD show rather than scouring the internet.

But thats accountants at sky for you little common sense. Once it ends in 2018 i bet atlantic loses a lot of its value and ratings ;) may become cheaper than for Vm

For anyone desperate for Game of Thrones but doesn't have or want Sky Now TV is the perfect option. No need to obtain it for an illegitimate source.

While it may be that the many at Sky have little common sense , it's their business sense that is important and something that they seem to have plenty of.

There are 2 seasons left of Game of thrones as they are only doing 8 seasons. That means 2 years give and take, MB might know when the current SKY deal is up for renewal.

True i completely agree. But I dare say a lot of people are acquiring the show from illegitimate means. Out of VM customers maybe 70-30 are getting it in illegitimate means and 30 from now tv. (i base this on twitter, people i overhear, facebook, forums etc)

I know why sky are doing it ie to push now tv and to push subscription to their own television service but i still honestly believe theyre losing more money than theyre earning with this strategy and it would have made them more by doing a deal with VM

Not everyone who subscribes to Now TV does it to watch GOT. They do it as a supplement to Freeview as an inexpensive way of getting access to the main pay TV channels.

It was a smart move by Sky, and for me personally, a very useful move.

Plus the day after the series ends on Sky Atlantic, the likes of Google Play, Apple, Amazon, BT and TalkTalk offer the box set for sale.

Apparently, Channel 5 have stated:

"We can confirm that Spike is not joining Virgin Media this week. While we would like to make Spike available on this platform, there are no plans to do so for the foreseeable future".

Sounds to me like Viacom want Spike to be on VM, but felt unable to accept the deal offered to them by VM.

Come come Den, surely you don't just mean Sky Atlantic content? There is more enough quality TV from around the world VM could quite easily get their hands on in future.

Sky have already bought a lot of content which locks out others Harry so unless Virgin starts producing its own content or start wielding their cheque book a fair bit more in the future l cannot see it changing that much.

Den, where have you been these last few days Old Bean? theone2k10 has revealed that VM is doing more deals with Starz.
And VM itself is busy commissioning some new dramas from 50% subsidiary All3Media.

Den, if you reserve judgment for much longer we'll still be waiting for you in the next life. Crack open the diet cola and celebrate VM's enhanced content offerings from the likes of Tru TV, Kingdom and Hayu with more fabulous content from Starz and Fox News just around the corner. :D

Showtime and HBO who you guessed it have a deal with SKY. Although bluebloods is on CBS i think i know it's one of the basic channels in the USA.
Starz did the outstanding Spartacus series and also do ash vs evil dead, outlander amongst other things.

VM certainly have clearly delivered more content options this year. What criteria will you use to say when they are walking the walk?

Oh dear Andrew you are very easily pleased these days as yes there is no denying that a little bit more content has come our way this year but like a swimmer swimming 100 hundred yards there are still 90 yards to swim before one can say they have walked the walk so while you might be easily placated many others have yet to be convinced at this current moment.

Ha ha. :) But returning to my question; how will you judge that VM are walking the walk?

One suspects in about 6 to 12 months that myself and others will be able to give you another unbiased considered opinion based on what happens between now and then.

When they get the shows that people actually want to see, and not the mind numbing dross that's on offer....

Also moving BBC 4 HD to channel 163 left Channel 164 free for maybe an NBCUnviersal channel?

Would make sense for Amazon Prime to be there in time for Clarkson's new show. Would you get the bunting out if Amazon Prime transpired, Den? :) .

I know this doesn't apply to yourself theone, but I don't get why people are making such a big deal over Amazon being added to VM. It's available on numerous devices, many of which will already be in peoples' homes, and if that isn't the case, can be watched on a £35 Fire Stick.

Access on these devices will be way faster than via the current Tivo.

I agree mate, I have the app on both PS4 and PS3. I'm not too worried about whether the Amazon app comes to Tivo or not.

Some don't want devices here there and everywhere in their home so l for one would be pretty happy if it was added to the TiVo PB.

I prefer the US version of Amazon video personally find much more content there very simple to set up too using your own Amazon account a vpn/smart dns, a roku, smart tv etc and a usa address, a uk credit/debit card works.

The point I was making is that many people already have access via their current TV, BR Player, games console or Roku type device.

Failing that, a small stick that plugs into the back of the TV is hardly, 'devices here there and everywhere' ;)
