Hospital was interesting today. It was all about choosing what type of dialysis and where I want to do it. Estimated start time three - six months. I begin transplant suitability tests after six months. If my repaired heart is strong enough I can go for a kidney / pancreas combo which would be nice :)

As for pain killers I'm pretty limited to paracetamol .

If you're looking for a new machine, I would recommend a Beko unit. Speaking to a friend of mine who's a domestic appliance engineer he said they sold tons of them and got very, very few back (1-2%). My own one is a £200 job I bought two years ago, and still uses an indirect motor and belt drive (i.e. proven technology).

Thanks for that input. I'll be checking up on the reliability of the brands in due course.

Got three missed calls logged on my mobile from 08446480246. Never heard it ring. Apparently it's a scam: The phone barely rings before they hang up, if you call back then they hit you with a monster premium rate so I've added it to the blocked list.

Be warned.

Grr! Hampshire County Council road works division.Sent a letter insisting that they wanted our road clear today for 'drain clearance' and they haven't appeared. Phoned up to ask why and no one at CS can get through to the group responsible.

Mother's Day. My Nan is fine, got her present sorted. But my mum? Bloody Hell she is murder to buy for. Stuff I know she likes will be stuff everyone else buys so I want something unique. But unique stuff is hard to come by that she will like, and a bunch of flowers just seems a bit 'I can't be bothered to find a present'.

Your Mum is very lucky to have a son who puts so much thought into her gift. I know what I will be getting as the wee always gets me Tulips on Mother's day and his big brother gets me wine tbh I think most Mum's would be happy with a card and I Love You, I know I would.

Might be wise just to leave it Den - you never know when the next scrape is around the corner sadly. If you're keen to have it done, some of those mobile 'chips away' type companies do an excellent job far cheaper than your average garage and they'll come to you.

I don't have that problem, I get her to tell me if she see anything she likes to buy it and I give her the money back, or I get my sister to buy clother etc for her.

Sorry to hear your news dilli I hope things get sorted PDQ. <hugs>

My bad news is very similar. John collapsed yesterday morning and was rushed into A&E. After 36 hours of tests and observation it seems he has a heart defect partly explaining his normal low blood pressure and he may have to have a Pacemaker. Drove him home tonight with a 24 hour monitor and then it's back to hospital again tomorrow. Getting very tired of all the 'ologists that seem to have taken over our lives.

Me too dilli. He has had enough these last few months. Being diagnosed with cancer and now a heart condition within in a few short months has been blow.

Can't fault how fast and thorough the NHS has been these last 2 days. I phoned for an ambulance yesterday at 9am and we had a rapid response cardiac-paramedic with us in under 5 minutes closely followed by an ambulance. The A&E staff were brilliant, so cool and well organised and the assessment unit he was transferred to was staffed by equally caring and experienced staff. Just so relieved it's an electrical issue and not the heart attack everyone suspected.

Yes, the majority of it works well but sadly, as with all companies I suppose, we only hear the negatives. There is a website, http://www.nhs.uk/Services/Hospitals...ew.aspx?id=876, (link takes you to my local one but shouldn't be hard to find your own hospital) where you can leave feedback for the hospital. It is seen by the hospital, and positive feedback is always passed on. As is negative as well.

Hope you are OK tomorrow at hospital dilli, and I hope that nothing too serious with your husband Jo.

My moan is that I have to leave for a job interview soon, and it looks like it is about to absolutely pour down with rain. Luckily, I am getting a taxi there (it is on an industrial estate and buses only run there mornings and evenings) but it is still not the ideal image to project to an interviewer, turning up soaked through.

tweetiepooh 09-03-2015 13:04

Re: Moans and Pet Hates part 8

I collapsed on honeymoon - taken to Miami for test and given beta blockers.
A few years later GP takes me off them, to check if still needed. No problems for a few more years then I fainted multiple times at home -> A&E by ambulance. Consultant thinks he knows the cause but didn't get the data required.
Following year I think I collapsed at work and kept fainting. Ambulance to A&E and got them to do a 12 lead ECG which showed my heart will occasionally slow right down -> low BP and over I go, then it will just carry on normally. So had a nice modern pacemaker fitted that kicks in when pulse drops below 60. Not needed to "use" it since fitting according to annual checkups.

The idea is that it will let you live not just exist so can still do most things. Avoid impacts (no rugby) and jolts (no bungie jumps). Avoid radiation (keep mobile phone on opposite side). Else my unit will let me scuba to about 30m (not tried this). You also get a pace maker card so when you set of airport detectors they have to frisk you not use the wand, same elsewhere I guess.
You will need to tell the DVLA but I have no restrictions so that's OK.
Pacemaker will likely be fitted under local in a couple of hours then you go home.

Turned up for the training this afternoon, only to find that all the promises made are false. Only role is going door to door, getting people interested in getting quotes. So no warehouse work at all, and now I need to work out what happens to my JSA if I decide to reject this position.

Re: Moans and Pet Hates part 8

I'm really torn as to what to do. On the one hand, rejecting it would see me sanctioned for up to 3 years and on the other hand it is a chance to gain confidence which is something I am lacking in. Will try and talk to someone tomorrow at the Jobcentre to discuss my options.

weenie 12-03-2015 18:29

Re: Moans and Pet Hates part 8

That is just wrong that you could get sanctioned for up to 3 years because of their false promise as to which you were applying for in the job description it is after all them that made false promises to lure you to apply. Anyway marc I'm wishing you all the best and also wishing you the best of luck in whatever the outcome is. Just one question could you not say the reason you never took the job was because the job you applied for was not the job they offered or as described at the interview stage other words (Not as described) therefore you would never have applied as you went for a job for warehouse operative, not door to door getting people interested in getting quotes it is still classed as sales although potential sales it called cold selling.

Spoke to my adviser today, she told me not to worry, there had been a few people complaining about the company and they were not happy with them for lying about having various vacancies and not to worry if I don't want to work for them. Which I don't, so thank God I won't get sanctioned.

She said if it had been that I'd refused because I couldn't be bothered then there would be a sanction for it, but she said they don't trust the company and have passed details of the company onto HMRC after they heard about workers boasting about paying just 8% income tax instead of the 20% they should be paying.

Apps and their developers. Why is it that when you either just get used to something or you like something, they go and change it? Been using Spotify for a while now, and just now it updated when I launched it. The apps section seems to have been removed, lists are not synced for offline listening, and generally just looks worse.

I've complained to them on Twitter about, but doubt I will ever get a reply.

I used to have an aversion to needles, what cured me was a course of cortisone into my back. No prior pain relief just 10-14 injections at a time, the worst one being into the 'tail bone' which made my eyes water!

I hate it when an app relies on an online service, that service changes (or goes off line) and the app is not updated to reflect the change, essentially rendering it useless. I've had that happen a few times.

In fairness to the developer of the latest one, Tube Deluxe, he has announced that he is in the process of rewriting the App and redesigning the server infrastructure it relies on from the ground up, and he does usually respond to tweets. He has also pulled the app from the app store while he rewrites it, but the new version of the app will not apparently be available until May.

Of course, the danger for him is that he had a loyal following, because his app was one of the first on the app store that offered the full TFL Journey Planner functionality, and status reports on all the tube and DLR lines. A lot of those people will have been forced to move to other apps for this info, and may not be willing to move back.

A couple of pubs have had to go this route where we live as their car parks were always full of cars left for the day whilst their owners were at work. Their pay and display now means there is space to park and as long as we use the pub/restaurants we get the cost of the parking knocked off the bill.

I would be very annoyed if they just took the money and I am sure the pubs concerned would soon notice the drop in till takings as it has had that effect when our local council tried to take away our 2 free hours in the main village car park. The shop keepers were up in arms and luckily the council saw sense.

We did have free parking from the council but when the next bunch(Tories) got elected they went back to pay and display. You have to pay upfront whatever time you stay..whereas in the next town you only pay after for the time you have been parked. You can guess where most people go and spend their money.

However the reason I wanted to go to this pub was because I didn't have enough coinage for pay and display in the first place or I'd have been eating elsewhere.Frankly it's become cheaper to park at home and WALK into the village for a meal.15 eateries within a 10 minute walk.

I'm determined to kill myself it seems, I cut myself with a knife earlier whilst cutting some bread, banged my head on a shelf whilst getting something off the floor and now just sat on the arm of a chair instead of the seat itself.

*sighs*Oh well, hopefully tomorrow is a better day.

I HATE pay & display with vengeance.

My town centre has one and pays for people to walk around if the sensor under your car says you've been there loner than you've paid for to give you a £80 ticket.

So you have to guess how long the queues are going to be in your shops, at least the first 2 hours are redeemable.

Pay & displays should be banned and turned into pay on exit.

Bleeding typical: Now the partial eclipse is over the cloud is breaking up and the sun is peeking through. Got one glimpse with the moon taking about 20%. Got really gloomy though.

Same thing happened in the last full eclipse. I had the good fortune to be staying down in Cornwall and it was cloudy for almost the whole event.

My Mum is just off the phone quite upset. My Mum who is 81 and had an ultra sound scan recently and that scan has has shown up something that needs to be checked her GP say's she will now need to have a CT scan. I'm really worried as she has lost some weight and falls asleep quite a lot. I think what has upset my Mum is the phone call from her GP was not expected. I'm going over to my Mum's house now to see if she's all right hopefully a chat and a cuppa with me might put her mind at ease at least that's the plan.

My moan - my legs.

The hospital are telling me I've broken both my left foot. Which usually would be me in a cast again for at least eight months but I can't at the moment due to swelling as that is the leg my veins were harvested from.

And both my legs are all swollen up :(

It never rains and a,l that.

@ weenie, I hope that you are able to give your Mum some comfort. Shame her GP seems to be lacking in any empathy. I realise there were possibly limited options on how to let your Mum know what needs to be done but I can't believe this was their only option. Give her an extra hug all the way from Manchester.

@ dilli, sounds as though you are still in the wars. Wish there was something I could do or say, but in the absence of a magic wand maybe a hug will suffice for the time being?

Dilli, I have no idea when your fortunes will change but I know we're all hoping they will very soon. It says a great deal about you that in spite of all the pain etc. you can be as positive as you are. You're a very special guy but I'll leave the soppy 'hugs' to Jo and offer you a great big manly :tu:

Den I hope your Dad feels better soon and the Doctor will give him something that will help your Dad.

Sorry to hear about your legs and foot dilli, like Jo I wish I could magically make all your troubles go away I wouldn't hesitate as Osem say's your a special guy hugs to you and Natalie.

Well I spent the afternoon with my Mum & Dad and explained all about the CT scan. I asked why the Doctor phoned and Dad said the Doctor thought that the hospital had been in contact with her to explain that further investigation is needed or something like that, my parents are not the best at relaying messages. In the end I think I managed to put their minds at rest by saying let's not worry till we know the result of the CT scan I think I managed that hopefully. I know my Mum seemed pleased when I said I will take her to the hospital (I think she forgets I'm no longer working) so that is one less thing for her to worry about as I'll be her transport.

Thanks everyone for your kind words.

Sounds like crossed wires really, GP assumed the hospital would have already been in touch so of course when the GP phoned your poor old mum must have been bricking it without anything from the hospital beforehand.

Hopefully all will go well.

Need to scrape together £50 for an engineer to come out and look at central heating. Had it down on 15, but for some reason the radiators were on full blast as was the boiler. I'd had it set to being on all the time, now changed it back to the presets and hot water only. Hopefully that will fix it, otherwise I think it is time to go to my mum and ask for her to replace the boiler. It is still the original boiler and British Gas keep saying each year that it needs to be replaced. Yeah, like I have a few thousand spare to buy a new one and as for finance, forget it with my poor credit history.

Sore feet, done a lot of walking today: Broadwater to Worthing station, Brighton station to up beyond Kemptown race course and then the return this afternoon. Total must be about 6-8 miles and very uphill down dale in Brighton. Glad to take the weight of my feet.

Yes I could have used busses or taxies as well but I like to save the money and the exercise is good for me so some say.:D

I cannot believe something as simple as a flat tyre has grounded my car to the driveway. Hubby went to change the wheel and swap it for the spare only for the wheel nut key to break. Looks like I will need to buy Locking Wheel Nut Key - Replacement.

Making up Teriyaki marinade and I managed to break my garlic press this morning on a particularly recalcitrant clove. It's one of those cast ones and it just snapped and trapped the palm of my hand. Now have a spectacular blood blister.

My mum is having tests & scans at the Royal Free Hospital in London, it's cheaper and quicker for and my sister to go via the tube than drive as parking would cost them £15.

When she has to go in for surgery the same will be used, again as parking is limited and too expensive.

God knows how we are going to bring her home as I doubt they would like her using the tube, perhaps they'll bring her home for the 1-1/2 hour trip.
